We chose Surah for our New Years Eve dinner yesterday because it was close to the movie we were going to see. It was the worst dining experience we have ever had. The food was average but that was not the problem. We were a party of 6 and arrived at 6 pm. Our dinners came out in 3 stages. Two of our friends were served first. 15 minutes later my husband and I received our food and then 10 minutes later my daughter was finally served hers. Imagine everyone but your child having their dinner!! What was so disconcerting was that the restaurant was not full, and no one including our server, said a word while this was all going on. Not one word was said to us. We had to call the owner over as we left. He offered us nothing for the awful service. I went here a couple times and it really wasn't that great. The restaurant itself was clean and nicely set up. The waiters were nice, hard working college students I believe. The food wasn't that great, every time I come here I get so constipated, I guess it depends on how much MSG they put in their food. SMH. The manager or the owner whatever he is just wonders around doing, I don't even know what. Wish he would've been more tentative to the customers. First time I tried Korean BBQ after being told it was amazing... it did not disappoint! You can go and choose from different All You Can Eat specials... we chose 20$ per person for multile dishes & side dishes that were delicious. The waiter we had was amazing; he knew it was our first time and walked us through everything and was super attentive. Definitely will be coming back! If you want all you can eat Korea bbq at a reasonable price in a convenient location (shopping mall), this is a good place, but don't expect prompt and friendly service. Because they don't cook the meat for you at the table, probably a good idea to know how to cook meat. The side dishes were minimal and the soup was okay, but you should be here to eat meat without expectations on the side dishes or the soup. Please note that your clothes will smell of cooked meat after your meal - so you may want to avoid wearing an outfit that requires dry cleaning. read more

This is about my 15th time at Surah, and I was saddened by the change from the first time I went for my Birthday in November 2012 to two years later. The service was very slow, and due to their addition of the all you can eat bbq, the wait staff seemed stretched, and not able to keep up with the table in the back, not eating the bbq, I was hoping for the same Birthday experience of two years ago, but was saddened when it took about thirty minutes to just get tea refills, and a glass of water. Then every attempt to order, was made difficult as we had to literally get up and track down a waiter after another thirty minutes to place our food orders. Also, was not impressed with the banchan selection or my dolsot bibimbap, that I waited about a good hour for for. I feel like Surah had alot of potential when they first opened, but it seems by adding the all you can eat, has made the food quality go down, and also the service is very stretched, they need more waiters on a busy Saturday night. Due to there is not to many good Korean places in the area, I feel that there is alot of market potential to step up their game, and focus on making really good quality, good food, rather then stretching themselves too thin, and leading to spotty service, and sub par Korean food. We were visiting family in PA and found this place via yelp. We decided to give it a try and we had a party of 11. We called ahead and the owner was very nice in accommodating us. When we got there we waited a couple minutes for our table to get cleaned and ready. Upon sitting, the manager came and offered us a free seafood pancake for having us wait. We were quite pleased by his gesture. We ordered 2 kalbi beef short ribs, 1 order of bulgogi and the thick cut pork for the table barbecue. We also ordered 2 bulgogi bimbimbaps, spicy squid, 5 assorted sushi rolls, and a soup (the soup name slips my mind). All were very good. If you are not up for very spicy just ask for not spicy as we did and the food came out flavorful and great! Everything was done really well and the bonchon was quite satisfying! The servers were friendly and patient with our large group of mixed experienced Korean food eaters. The waiters also assisted us with cooking the meat and even served each one of us. The owner also gave us two complimentary spicy rice cake dishes that were not on the menu. Even though the bonchon and rice were unlimited we did not have to order anything extra as the food was plentiful. It was quite delicious and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The whole 11 person party was stuffed and the bill only came out to $184. We decided to leave a 20% tip because of the excellent food, service, and freebies. We would definitely come back again and wish this restaurant was closer to home then in PA. I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant, but I have to say that this is the best Korean restaurant that I've had in the area! Even though the inside of the restaurant looks extremely trendy like an Asian fusion place, the prices are unpretentious and the food is really good! First off, the kalbi is of an extremely high quality - the meat is delicate and flavorful and I just ate the pieces right off the grill! Even though sauces and lettuce (for wrapping) are provided, the meat tastes too good on its own for me to want to mask its flavor! I'm still dreaming of this kalbi, especially now that I'm no longer on the East Coast! The bibimbap with spicy pork was VERY spicy, which is great, but it was already pre-mixed with sauce and a LOT of it - I think a little more restraint would have made this dish perfect; after all, the highlight of bibimbap for me personally are the vegetables! A rock shrimp tempura appetizer was amazing! Sweet and crunchy, these huge pieces of shrimp are addictive! Banchan were good, soondubu was good, the seafood pancake (given to us by the owner) was good, and the sushi tasted fresh! I was extremely impressed by this restaurant and I know now that whenever I come to visit my family in Pennsylvania, this will be my go-to restaurant request when we dine out! read more

Went here for the first time last night. Wondering how this place gets 4 stars. Service was poor and food wasn't that great. Was seated with another family at the same time and their food came very quickly. We waited for 30 minutes before they brought anything out which we ordered stating "there was a problem with the table before you". What does that have to do with anything? We asked for rice several times- never came. Once they brought out our choices at the overpriced option A they never came back to ask if we wanted anything else (apparently "all you can eat"). Never even noticed we were there. Maybe because we were the only non white or Korean people there? Didn't feel our business was of enough value? Paid $172 for the worst. Plenty of better, friendlier, more organized Korean BBQ close by with better options. Don't recommend this place. Only gave it it 1 star because there isn't an option for zero. read more

My husband had been wanting to try Korean BBQ for quite some time and after doing some research I came across Surah. I decided that this would be the perfect place to take him for his birthday and we have to say that we both enjoyed it! Although it was only the two of us, we decided to try a little bit of everything. We ordered the wings, which were delicious, sushi and the Korean BBQ which consisted of short ribs, pork belly and tons of veggies. The quality of food was average and the service was absolutely awful. Four of us arrived at 6:30 and the restaurant was about 1/3 full. We had wine and beer that needed to be opened and chilled. After 3 requests and 15 minutes later they finally took care of that. We were ready to order by then but no server was to be found. After being there 1/2 hour our order was finally taken. Two salads, one appetizer, tempura shrimp, stew and two sushi dishes were ordered. About 20 minutes later they brought out some assorted appetizers for which there was no charge. About 25 minutes later they bring the sushi but no salads or appetizer, We asked him to forget the salads and just bring the appetizer, stew and tempura. After15 minutes the stew and tempura came but no appetizer. By then the couple we were with had just about finished their sushi and the waiter brings their salads. After being there for two hours, we get our check, have the money to be taken and the waiter comes to the table with some meat dish he wants to eat to make up for the bad service. He said we should come during the week when the service is usually better. I can't see this restaurant staying around long. They have no clue what good service is all about. read more

A+ for Surah in Spring House. Fresh, delicious sushi and sashimi and, anything that you want, Benny will create for you. The Korean meals seem to be moving nicely. However, my husband and I always choose the sushi bar and the attentive service. A hidden gem, next to the Giant in the shopping center. You will not lose if you visit this restaurant with the beautiful decor and, more importantly, the delicious Japanese dishes. We need to spread the word about this Japanese experience. I came here last night with a couple friends. It was probably my 3rd or 4th time this year eating there. The service started out pretty good. The food was pretty good as well. The reason for the 1-star was at the end of dinner. We paid the bill and we had crossed out the tip line because we had left the waitress the tip in cash on the table (20%). She thought that we weren't going to leave a tip and got irate and with the most terrible attitude she said "Excuse me, you guys aren't even going to leave a tip?" My friend introduced me to this place and their food was AMAZING as well as their prices. Even their sushi is so fresh and their rolls are delicious! I came to this joint when it first initially opened as a korean japanese restaraunt couple years ago and had the korean bqq... they're sushi was pretty good but the portion of their bqq meat was very stingy for what they were charging... 2 rolls of the kalbi (cow ribs, thinly sliced) for $50+ dollars. Im korean and Ive been to all the phila + suburb korean restaraunts in the area but this place was totally a RIP OFF compared to others. This place recently started the all you can eat korean bbq for like $28 bucks per person... DON'T BE FOOLED! This is the only bqq buffet where the server brings you the meat! There are few more korean bbq buffet places within the area and they all have meat stations with 6-8 variety of meats, seafood, side dishes and the customer fills his own plate of meats to cook. At Surah... the waiter takes order of the meat you want to cook and they control the amount or potions of the meat you can eat at a time. You wont believe the stingy portions they bring you and the amount of time you have to actually have to wait until you get your next portion when you order again. This place is not a korean bbq buffet... goto "KOBA" KOREAN BQQ BUFFET INSTEAD!!! OR GO TO A REGULAR KOREAN BBQ RESTARAUNT IN THE AREA AND PAY THE SAME PRICE...AND GET BETTER SERVICE, MORE FOOD AND PAY THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY. Went last night (Friday night), and while the food was good, the service was terrible. We have dined there before, and the service was fine. We arrived five minutes early for our appointed reservation time, and were met with quizzical looks. I'm not sure they were aware of the reservation. We were finally seated at our BBQ table, which did have a "reserved" sign. We ordered sushi/rolls for appetizers, which were very good. Two of them were brought out together, but the third person at our table had to wait at least 5 more minutes for hers. BBQ was good; one of our dishes was marinated beef ribs, and the sides were good. After our server finished with the BBQ, he basically disappeared and never came back to see if we needed anything. We were finished with our meal for about a half hour, and finally had to ask someone clearing tables to let our server know we would like our check. Highly disappointed this time. Oh, and for some odd reason, they had the same song (a woman singing) playing over and over and over and over the entire time we were there.
