I sure am glad we found this little spot while wandering the neighborhoods one sunny afternoon. Honestly, I wasn't super hungry at that point - more thirsty than anything else (I hear Forrest Gump in my head here) - but my husband's goal was to eat all the things during our time in Italy, so when he saw Supplì, his eyes lit up.
The shop is small with a couple tiny tables and a long bar with stools on the right. They did have a couple other small tables outside, but that's about it. The guy working the register that day was friendly and approachable, and actually brought our order to the indoor table we'd snagged, which I thought was a nice touch (we totally could have popped up to grab the plates from the counter, which was just a foot or two behind us.)
We ordered three Supplì to share: the tomato basil, the potato and the parmesan. They were a bit crowded that day but the steaming hot and crispy Supplì came out fast. The guy working the front pointed out each variety when he brought our plate to the table, and I had to quickly take a picture and label it so that I'd remember, because they all looked the same on the outside.
Of the three, my favorite was the tomato basil. I liked the tang of the tomato and the earthiness of the basil (one of my favorite herbs). The other two were tasty as well, but I missed the added texture of the rice in the potato version and didn't really notice the flavor of the parmesan in that version.
Though the Supplì look small, they were filling. At least for me, but remember I went in not super hungry. My husband loved each of them and had no problem finishing them off. Definitely a good snack item that's perfectly made. read more
