    Coxinhas

After living in Brazil for 6 months there were some things I was craving and had to check this place out. I came at a random time, around 1pm on a Monday, so their lunch buffet was winding down already. Can't comment on that, but I will be back. However, they did still have some COXINHA! I could not pass that up, and it did not disappoint. You can tell it was hand made and it was delicious. (If you aren't familiar with coxinha.. it's a fried dough ball filled with chicken and something similar to cream cheese called catupiry) They have a small selection of imported stuff from Brazil.. Guarana the famous soda, Nescau which is similar but better than Nesquick, pão de queijo (little cheese breads), condensed milk, juice, etc. They also have a section of meat in the back, a little butcher station. On Saturday they serve feijoada and I will definitely come try!

Went with a group of coworkers last week. I was sold when I was told there would be Coxinhas (which I did not get because I absolutely pigged out on the buffet). The food was hot and plentiful. Grabbed a Guarana Antarctica out of the cooler on my way in and honestly would have been set with just that. Hard to find here in the states and now I know where I can go to get it. The candies and complimentary coffee was just what I needed to stay awake at work after such a filling meal. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach. Next time I won't chug the Guarana so I can fill up on the food!

Friends brought a cut of beef (picana?) for grilling and some sausages (beef, again?) that were marvelous. Are they open as a restaurant or just a grocery store?

From the moment we arrived, the elegant yet welcoming atmosphere made us feel special; however, what truly elevated the entire experience was the service. The attention we received was impeccable, with the staff constantly attentive to every detail and ensuring that we lacked absolutely nothing. I would like to give a special shout-out to two individuals who made our visit unforgettable: Luara and Andrew. Their level of professionalism, kindness, and dedication was truly impressive. Luara was incredibly attentive, always wearing a genuine smile and ensuring that everything at our table was perfect. Andrew, for his part, complemented the experience with equally warm and efficient service, demonstrating extensive knowledge of the menu and a constant willingness to assist. Together, they managed to create a personalized experience, making us feel like more than just customers--we felt like special guests. That kind of service is hard to come by, and it truly makes all the difference. The only point for improvement was that the drinks took a little longer than usual to arrive. Aside from that, everything was perfect. Definitely recommended!

She is always so kind and cheerful. Besides that, they don't seem very friendly but I think that it's because of a language barrier. However, a smile and or a simple Hello would make folks feel better about choosing to spend their money there. I enjoy sitting in their spacious eating area. It is set off far enough from the food bar to enjoy your meal. I will definitely continue to have lunch there. I just love the authentic and freshly made food that they offer.

As an American-Brazilian family, we're all about Brasilian cuisine at home. And in SoCal we know…read moreevery Brazilian, Latin and Persian market that carries either Brazilian imports or similar items, like 'President brand' requejiao cremoso, which you'll find at the Persian markets. So when one of our family group moved to the Jacksonville area, we immediately searched online for 'Brasilian Mercados'... either in town or in the greater area. And just to let you know, we're envious of our family now in the Jacksonville area. Well, if you're in the Jacksonville area and you've found Rio Bonito Latin Food Market, then you've also probably seen two other mercados very close. But after our family visited all three this last Sunday, we had to agree that Rio Bonito was the closest, if not a near copy, of a typical neighborhood market. Groceries, dry goods, frozen foods, and a very traditional cafe'-buffet where you pay (in Brazil por kilo), but here, by the pound. And with their buffet, If you load up your plate as I did on my second visit, and with the buffet line meats, and/or you add meat from their modest churrasco area, you'll probably be paying around $22 or so. I'm sure their prices went up this year to cover higher costs. Luckily visiting on Sunday, I was able to make a plate of feijoada, complete with rice, couve à mineira, vinagrette and farofa. During the week they have varying hot meat dishes, like ribs, chicken and ox tail (rabo de boi). I felt like we'd stopped at a small 'posto' (truck stop) on our way to Uberlandia from Goiania or Brasilia. And let me add that they also have a small carneceria complete with all the Brasilian meats and cuts you'd want for a home BBQ. My avocation is Specialty Coffee, and we do travel to Brasil reasonably often. So aside from focusing on coffee, (trips to Sul de Minas), I keep an eye on the retail markets, their inventories and prices. And here in the states I have an account with a West coast Latin (Brasilian) food and general merchandise distributor. So when we visited Rio Bonito, I could immediately see that their level of both dry goods and frozen was well above any other Latin market we have in SoCal, let alone in the No. Florida area. Knowing most master Latin food importer are East coast based, this makes total sense. If there's another Brasilian mercado with a more complete inventory of product in North Florida, I'd like to know about it. Bottom line, if you're a Brasilian or Amer-Bras family, and you're looking for 'your Brasilian mercado'... I'm reasonably confident that this is it.

I ordered a papaya drink, very fresh, an appetizer of fried plantain with cheese and guava sauce, and a marina combination for the entree which came with a tilapia filet, 4 shrimp, salmon, and 2 vegetable skewers. The plantain with cheese and guava sauce was new and surprisingly tasty. That's a first for me and I'd definitely enjoy it again. The entree looked great and had minimal seasoning. I added the sauces to add flavor and heat. All in all, it was too much in one sitting so I took it home. I would recommend additional seasoning for the seafood & a lemon to squeeze over it and wake up the flavor.
