We had a minor miscommunication snafu in the beginning that was quickly handled and solved by a supervisor named Vicente. He was truly incredible! IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS, I WOULD! Horrible company, even worse boss. The company's representative came to our house to issue a quote and then based on our discussions, we agreed on the job and its price. The crew came over and started working and an hour later, I don't see anyone. I call the said representative only to be told that their boss decided this wouldn't make them any profit and he pulled the crew out. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. He didn't even have the courtesy to talk to me before making the decision, to at least, discuss any concern he may have had with the price his very own company representative issued and signed a contract for! We've had them out 3 times over the last 5 years to take down large pines at the end of their life and trim our oaks. We have been happy with their work each time. This past time Spring, however, they trimmed one of our oaks too low and it went through shock during the Summer. It seems to be recovering, but it was unbalanced and a strong wind took down a large branch. I called them to remove the branch, which they came out and said they would do at no cost. This was on June 18th. Since then they have ignored my calls, texts and voicemails and the branch has dried out and become a fire hazard on our property. We will need to have it addressed by another company. It seems so silly to lose a customer over what may be an hour or two of work for them (especially given how many pines we still have on our property that are nearing the end of their lives). But, given this recent experience, I would not recommend using them as they don't seem to stand behind their work once they are paid for a job. read more

DO NOT USE THIS TREE SERVICE Hired Superior to do some trimming of a number trees in our backyard. from photo attached you can see our landscaping took a beating. The worst part is they removed one of our landscaping lights. I have to assume they broke it and then removed it hoping I wouldn't notice. Superior Tree Service was helping out some of our neighbours with their annual tree maintenance (our street is basically amongst the woods in Orinda). They visited us to see if we needed any work done, and provided a competitive quote to trim two of our trees. They're licensed and their arborists have a good amount of safety gear, which is reassuring given that they're effectively tree climbers with chainsaws! We recently had solar panels installed and I was concerned about the shade from one of our trees causing the output to drop significantly for a few hours in the afternoon! I explained the problem to the crew and they did a great job significantly trimming the tree down to something more manageable. This has completely resolved any shading issues! They did a great job, were very communicative and clean/respectful, hauling away all of the waste from the tree. On one occasion, their giant wood chipper was blocking our street and I needed to head out, they were very helpful and willing to move it so that I could get around it which I appreciated! read more

Stay away from this outfit. I write this after my check from Superior's insurance company has cleared. It took me nearly 2 years to resolve this issue with Superior. My neighbor hired Superior to take down a threatening pine. A team led by Carlos Berumen showed up and took the neighbor's tree down as well as levelling 6 mature oaks and some bay trees, and pushing over a madrone and a plum tree on MY property. The team cut my 6 oaks to the ground and removed them without saying a word to me about that reckless error. They did additional damage to another of my mature oaks as well as to 2 of my large pines by using those trees as fulcrums for the ropes they used to remove debris (much of which was, of course, the trees they felled on MY property!) Oh, and they cut a seventh oak on my property because "a neighbor told them to." Huh? When confronted with the damage, Carlos Beruman pretended that he did not speak English...yet a neighbor fluent in Spanish called him out on that. The arborists I had to come assess the damage couldn't believe the carelessness and irresponsible damage that was done. Superior was the lowest bidder on my neighbor's job by a LONG shot (i.e., $10,000 vs. $30,000 quoted by presumably more reputable tree companies). No surprise. Possibly Superior's prices will go up when their insurance premiums increase substantially which may protect the unwitting consumer looking for a "deal." Customers and neighbors of those who will contract with Superior should take note of Superior's insurance information as of Oct 2023 as that information--or really much of any contact with Superior--will be nonexistent once any damage has been done. Restitution will be minimal (if any) and require a good deal of time and legwork on the part of the claimant...and the claimant's lawyer. Good luck. Just avoid a lot of grief by avoiding Superior Tree Service. They are incompetent and irresponsible. They do a lot of tree work in Oakland, and we thought the reviews from neighbors and Yelp would suggest a company that cared. Carlos was somewhat responsive but after paying the for tree service - we did not hear back. I wish I could have taken time off of work to micromanage this job. Besides these photos, we have a heavy iron bench that they didn't move back, broken fence pieces, and debris on our neighbor's side that was left. They did a job a few houses below ours and maybe quality control and communication to workers were forgotten. I'm disappointed and would like Carlos to finish the clean up. Tree trimming was good, but allowing large branches to fall without caring what gets crushed isn't okay, plus not responding after payment is not good business. Every few weeks these guys do work in the neighborhood - their helpers go around jamming their advertisements into mailboxes -- not in or on the mailboxes but folded up and inserted in a way that bends and breaks parts. We have a beautiful old oak tree in our backyard that was a jewel. This company came in and ruined our tree irreparably. They hacked away at all the limbs, left hanging cuts, did NOT do their job. They refused to clean up after the devastation. Do not hire this company. You will be sorry. It was a very expensive mistake not only in $$ but in a ruined backyard old oak tree. It will never be the same. The way they cut the branches will just result in leafy fill in growth. Very unhealthy for the tree. They also ruined a few potted plants that were in our backyard. When i contacted them to come look at the damage, they tried to upsell me to cut some other trees, and then they would try to repair some of the damage. This company is not a good choice to prune or cut off dead branches. The only thing I would allow them to do is cut down a tree and i would not recommend that because they left a mess. read more

I have to change my review after a lot of thought. Juan Carlos sent his team to remove an oak tree that had fallen in the wind a few months ago. His team did a very sloppy job - damaged several areas during the work, didn't clean up the tree they removed, and despite agreeing to leaving oak for firewood, they took all the wood. Like past 2 years, all I get is a promise to bring back firewood, but nothing really happens... only promises. Hence, I will not be reusing them in the future (after 3 years of business). read more

You get what you pay for with Superior Tree Service. We had them take out a large tree in our yard, largely due to the price offered, which was lower than the rates offered by other tree services. The men did a good job taking the tree down, but when they left the first afternoon (it was a two day job), they left several very heavy branches against our wooden fence which pushed it over almost to the ground. When I contacted their office to ask that they make it right by either coming back and resetting my fence or paying for the repair, I was met with denial that they'd done anything wrong. I included pictures of the damage done to the fence and the fence before and after the tree was removed, which clearly proved they had damaged the fence by leaning the branches against it. Despite the clear evidence, the woman in the office there brushed off my complaint and ghosted me. The prices they offer may be lower than their competitors but it comes at a cost. Be prepared to pay for damage caused by this company if you choose to hire them. read more
