I was hesitant to hire movers as I always think I can do everything myself. Decided on Superior for my first ever hiring movers experience. The owner, Jonathan, (excellent name btw) walked me through my responsibilities and helped me understand the process simply. Like I said in my previous review I was superiorly disappointed with Superior Movers service. I got an email from Yelp, I guess the driver Jonathan got them to remove my review because Yelp says you can't say things about a person on Yelp. So I will use these different words: the air very close to that driver smelled like weed. Also we got charged 2x what was in the estimate quote and they make a tip mandatory even after they charged double and left scrapes in the hallway of our rental including the common stairwell. The property manager charged us for that and we still had to pay for some of the damage. Very bad and very sneaky too. Definitely 1 star! read more

BEWARE!!! they took a month longer than quoted and after loading my stuff they call me and hold my stuff hostage unless i pay additional $1500. thay already knew the size of my storage unit and quoted my the largest possible amount. they set me up cause I had already moved out of state and trusted them to do me right. upon show up a month late I watched them unload the truck drop many boxes and watched a mover drop my $900 gas WEBER grill on its face. I was missing many things including bed frame and my purchased garment box was missing and all my hanging closed were stuffed into another crushed box and covered in transmission fluid from another crunched box. all in all over $2500 in missing and damaged stuff they filed a claim and reimbursed me $85 dollar. don't do business with these clowns!!! read more

Used Superior Movers for a move from Del Mar to University City last week and couldn't be happier with the experience. All three of our movers, Jonathan, Jason and Justin were very professional and personable. Got us moved out of a tri-level 4 bedroom and into a 5 bedroom house in just over 4 hours. Every precaution was taken by the team to ensure that nothing was damaged, so everything made it to the new house in perfect shape. We had a great experience with Superior Movers today! The driver/mover named James was friendly; professional and thorough. He did a walk through with us to see all items and areas that needed to be addressed at both our current apartment and again when we arrived at the new apartment. James kept the other two movers (Justin and Shane) on task, and they were very time efficient. They all worked very hard and we are happy with the outcome of the move. The cost of the move was definitely an investment, but I do feel the pricing is reasonable for how hard the team worked (and how many stairs they had to climb)! I booked this company to move my three bedroom home today. Their original quote was for 5 movers, three hours minimum, FULL SERVICE package. Their website defines full service as "Our Full Service Moving Rates are for our customers that do not have the time to properly prepare their home before the movers arrive. We will disassemble & reassyble your beds and furniture as well as shrink-wrap your items. We will bring wardrobe boxes for your bedding & hanging clothes as well as move all your loose & small items." Two days ago, they sent me a revised quote with only four movers. That was disappointing, but I understood their situation and accepted the change. This morning, four guys showed up without being adequately prepared for a full service move. Two of them seemed to be day laborers, who did not even introduce themselves. It was obvious that they do not have moving experience. The driver started by declaring "Oh, we do not have any boxes that you might need, we were told this was a basic move". Fortunately, I had most of my boxes packed. When I asked for packaging tape to tape a couple of book boxes, they handed me a tape that was so weak, it tore on the carton. It was not heavy duty packaging tape or moving tape. When I complained and stated that I booked a Full Service package, the driver called the company. The manager called me back and denied that I booked a full service moving package. Seriously??? This guy does not even read the contracts that he sends out??? When I complained the manager simply CANCELLED THE SERVICE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MOVE. HE MADE THE GUYS UNLOAD THE TRUCK AND BROKE A SERVICE THAT I BOOKED THREE WEEKS AGO. Now, I have to find last minute movers, because I must move out of my rental. THIS COMPANY IS COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND HAS A SHAMEFULLY LOW UNDERSTANDING OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. DO NOT HIRE THEM. They seem to be working partially with people they hire on a day labor basis. A team of two guys helped me move yesterday and I am super impressed with everything! They arrived ahead of schedule, they knew the best place to park the truck for loading up, they came into my old place and listened to me and assessed everything and wasted no time jumping into loading my stuff. When we got to my new place, they're attitude and energy stayed consistent! Immediately started unloading my items and taking them to the elevator area, then they would load the service elevator, ride up and unload on the floor and quickly moved the items into my new high rise apartment. I am super grateful for them and how professional they were. I am currently missing one suitcase bag and I am hoping we left it on the truck, but other then that I am happy and stress free! I have moved more times than I'd like to admit. I'm in the double digits and let me tell you, I know movers. Superior Movers was recommended to me by a friend of mine and she was right! Superior Movers were quick to return my phone calls, either via voice or text. Questions were answered, quote was given...done and done. They offer a yelp discount. Talk to them before buying it. I didn't buy it, just mentioned it and it was included in my quote. The company has a 3 hour minimum, similar to most moving companies. I ended up buying a 3 mover package. John, Christian, and Luke were amazing. Originally, they thought they could get the job done in 3.5 hours (I had tons of stairs!), but they finished in 4 hours. Is that worthy of deducting a star? No way! They hustled, moved up and down stairs, disassembled furniture, reassembled furniture, more stairs at my new place, and everything was in tip-top shape. I would highly recommend them and plan to use them again! Excellent job guys! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! THEY OVER CHARGE AND LEFT TOO MANY ITEMS UNPACKED!!! We hired this company to pack and move us from Aliso Viejo to Temecula. We ended up having to pack both of our vehicles 2 separate times because their truck wasn't big enough to move a 2 bedroom apartment. They also left damaged our apartment kitchen floor, front door and walls in our new home because they were inexperienced and didn't know how to move a refrigerator without causing damage!!! I REGRET USING THIS COMPANY AND WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER WHAT A LOUSY JOB THEY DID!! The move was listed under my husbands name and the damage your company created, both physically and financially cannot be erased. Instead of $800 as quoted, I was charged $2,400!!! Instead of 5 hours, it took 13 hours. The experience was terrible and I had damage to over $300 worth of my possessions. They laid a bottle of corrosive drain cleaner on its side in a box and it leaked all over the contents and a rug beneath it. I chose this company because of the excellent Yelp reviews, but this was obviously not my experience. I am trying to get my bill reduced and reimbursement for the damage, but I am being stonewalled as they have my money already. I do not recomend this company. read more

Nearly 6 years after our move, we're still happy with (and oddly fond of) our experience with Super Movers. The price was reasonable and they even helped pack up the last few things that we didn't quite get to before they arrived. We were totally not expecting a truck full of surfers from Point Loma and they were so nice, high-fiving each other after taking particularly impressive loads of boxes up the stairs. My husband found Superior Movers on Yelp. They were able to fit us in their scheduled after Memorial Day. We had 3 gentlemen (Judah, Sim, Nathan) They were polite, efficient, and got all the work done within the 3 hour period. All three were able to load their box truck from a 10 x 15 storage unit within 1 hr. Drive to the destination within 30 (double drive time) meaning I was charged the 1 hr from my allotted 3 and unload all the contents into the our new place in a hour. Their box truck is equipped with all the necessities such as straps, blankets, boxes, tape, and saran wraps to haul your gear away. The Yelp reviews from other Yelpers are very accurate. Jonathan and the team showed up on time and had us in our new home in record time. They moved us from our storage unit in Rancho Bernardo to our 3 bedroom condo in Carlsbad in record time. We were quoted an hourly rate for 3 movers, but they included a fourth mover at no cost. They carefully wrapped all of our wood furniture and placed everything in the correct rooms. Professional energetic friendly, strong. My new stairwell is 32 inches with 2 turns. I have the holy grail of sofa beds. It is actually comfortable! It is heavy and 30 inches in its smallest dimension and more in its other 2 dimensions. These guys got it right in the right spot, upstairs no damage. My place is newly painted. Really no damage. Moving is expensive, great service... Priceless. This is my second my be with this company. The first involved a snarky HOA, a persnickety elevator my condo was 5th floor, an exceedingly hot day. The same great attitude and strong professional guys. They are transparent and fair in their billing and so much better arriving with nothing broken. We hired Superior Movers for a move across San Diego and we are very happy with the service we received. All the movers arrived right on time, and I was very impressed with how quickly the loaded up the truck. They were very careful with our possessions, and were extremely careful when setting anything down in our new place where we have plank flooring. First, the good: Our furniture, boxes, and other belongings all made it to our new house. And, although we haven't unpacked much yet and are certainly not moved in, it doesn't appear like anything is broken. One shelf pin for my office bookcase came up missing, which one of the movers said I can get from Home Depot, but so far that's all I see. (Personal gripe: you took it apart, removed the shelf pins, and now a shelf pin is missing, and I have to go to Home Depot? Hmmm...) The guys were all very nice and personable. Between trips I bought them sandwiches and waters, for which they were very grateful. Glad to do it. And I went to my credit union to be sure I had tips for them for the end of the day ($40 each, which the person at Superior Movers recommended as standard). (I would gladly have given them the tips, but read on.) Now, the bad: They don't come to your house ahead of time or even request photos to preview the furniture, boxes, etc. Instead, you provide the info online in a series of questions and answers, and they provide an estimate. We moved from a 4-bedroom 2-story house, with heavy furniture (2 beds, 3 dressers, heavy office furniture, and 50 boxes - no appliances). Plus outdoor patio furniture and plants, and a variety of odds and ends. Whoever does the replying on Yelp told me that their biggest truck should work, which turned out to be 26 feet long, but skinny. (By the way, we moved from a two-story house to a single-story house.) As we got closer to the move date, I got nervous, so asked the person who answered my call for the company if he's sure everything will fit. He suggested adding a pickup truck with a trailer to the order, for the plants and yard furniture. When they showed up with a rented truck (not a truck with the company name on it as expected), I really started worrying - and for good cause. The estimate, including the extra truck and trailer, was about $1,300. We paid another mover that same amount when we moved from La Mesa to Scripps Ranch nearly 7 years ago (almost exactly the same distance for both moves - 25 miles) - and that house was 3 stories around a really difficult staircase. We had exactly the same furniture then. Even allowing that we might have had a few more boxes this time, there is no way that I could have foreseen the $1,300 estimate ending up costing us $3,000. I would NOT recommend using this company, unless you don't have a lot of items to move. One other comment: our previous movers (from the last move) really hustled. These guys brought things in, but not with the same speed and sense of urgency as our last movers. There's NO way I could have foreseen a bill that's more than twice what was quoted. And, honestly, at the end of the day, you're so tired you don't have the strength, will, or desire to argue or fight about it. When we settled the bill, it also included a mandatory almost $100 gratuity per mover. Oh, one other note: the original estimate was for 5 movers. We had 4. To be clear: some of this was my fault at not carefully reviewing the contract. Lots of double this charge and mandatory this or that. But it is NOT reasonable for a $1,300 estimate to balloon into a $3,000 bill. So: buyer BEWARE!!! BTW I don't think they are shady; I just think their billing practices are unethical. All of my information was completely valid and should have been enough for a reliable quote. They don't ask for photos and they don't do home visits beforehand, so they rely on the customer's information. Mine was accurate, and they based their quote - which I accepted - on this information. Then, on the day of the move, when the customer has no other options, the price is more than doubled. They also do not take personal checks, only cash, cashier's check, or money order. If you are prepared with cash, cashier's check, or money order in the amount you are expecting to pay, and are presented with an invoice that is more than twice what you expected, it is likely you'll be a bind and have to use a credit card (happened to us). This results in a 3.5% additional charge - an extra $100 in our case. If you use them, you should plan to have twice the amount of cash handy... * UPDATE* A representative from the company contacted me and we engaged in a series of email conversations. Then all communication simply stopped. This has caused me to reconsider the 2 star rating I'd originally assigned and actually lower it. I was frank and honest with them, and they wasted my time, leading me to believe they wanted to resolve the situation. The bottom line is I wish I'd done more research before deciding to go with them. read more

I moved a few weeks ago and decided to use Superior movers. I was all set to get the keys to my new place first thing that morning and head back to the old place in time to meet the movers when they arrived. Unfortunately, the leasing team of the complex I moved to wasn't very organized and lost some of the paperwork I had previously provided to them which delayed me being able to get my keys in a timely manner. This also lead to John and the moving crew having to wait an hour for me to arrive. They took it all in stride and waited patiently, They were friendly, punctual, hard working and professional. I suggest that you read the agreement very carefully before you sign it. It is very difficult to determine what the final payment will be because of all the variables. I read the agreement and thought I had a pretty good idea of what the cost of the move would be. It turns out the move was much more costly than I had predicted. Superior Movers over the phone did not give me an approximate total cost of the move. For one thing their place of business is in El Cajon. You are going to pay the cost of them driving to your home. In my case I was in Mission Valley. That takes about twenty minutes. They double all travel time. You are now going to pay for 40 or more minutes per the hourly rate. They have the right to average all travel times. It is likely you are now going to pay more than 40 minutes of travel time. You can see how this can soon become complicated to figure. They have a policy they get to determine the gratuity you will pay. In my case the mandatory gratuity cost me $200.00. The loading and unloading of my furniture took three hours. Actual driving time from my apartment to my storage space was about twenty minutes. I was charged $1200.00. I was charged for five hours. I will admit the four men worked efficiently and carefully. Although when it came to placing the furniture in my storage space Jonathan would not place my bed were I wanted. I now do not have easy access to a number of boxes I may need to get to in the near future. read more
