Great produce and meat "sale" prices. I've bought a 10 lb bag fo potatoes for $1.69 and 3 lbs of limes for .99 cents before. Here two tips for you though: 1) Stay away from the aisles and non sale items! And 2) Bring your own bags. Lunch meat and cheese deli is super fresh. Stuff doesn't last a month in your refrigerator which gives me the impression that they don't use a lot of preservatives. Which is a good thing right? So I was stocking up on fresh produce to make fresh salsa verde for tamales. Got the masa and husks too, perfect. Then it went bad! I was checking out and noticed that 4 jalapeños weighed 1 pound, 3 serranos weighed almost 1 pound, 3 habaneros also weighed almost 1 pound! 3 habaneros almost $7! I finally spoke up and told the cashier that their scale was off! A manager came over and I expressed to him that it was illegal to use uncalibrated scales! That they were ripping their customers off' He just moved my items to another register, but continues to ring the lady behind me up. I told that customer to move too! The original cashier says, oh I thought it was wrong too, but did nothing. Then a 3rd employee says, oh I see what it is. There were boxes of candies on the edge of the scale. I was just in this place after a long absence for mediocre customer service. Theresa's only 2 cashiers open. One of them turn her light off as I walked in trying to get to her. I asked her if I should go on to the only one left open she said yes. At rhis point that was ok. But someone else walked in and she offer to help when I was refused and left with customer with a huge cart in front of me. I don't know if they know that now in days you all should compete for the business. It's not about my purchase of today but when am I going back??? They need to get trained and disciplined as needed. I am a long time customer service provider and that is SO BAD FOR BUSINESS. I will give you guys a try in another 5 years or so. My family ordered chicken for my nephews birthday party. We were told that is would be ready by 11:30a today. We show up the the store right on time and the chicken hasn't even been started. We were told that the women who took the order called off in an emergency and the women whom came from another store to replace the missing body had no idea what we were even talking about when we got there & wasn't infOrmed that tHere was a chicken order for 100 pieces. Best Hispanic market in the area. Produce is always fresh and great variety. You can find just about any fruit or vegetable here. The other items I was surprised to find were the amount of spices , central American, soul food ingredients, asain products and even Middle Eastern section. In the frozen food section they have a large selection of again central American items. I picked up some ready to use empanda dough. Lastly the prepackaged meat section is huge! Always clean and well stocked. Most Hispanic markets are limited in thier "grocery" goods. Like cereal, spices and even canned goods. You will find everything you need here ! I gave this store a second chance and regret it. Their produce is disgusting. I don't know how they think its OK to sell the fruits the way they do. Strawberries were rotten. I purchased pork from the service counter (Sunday) put it in my crock pot today (Tuesday) for dinner and wow the smell was less then fresh! This is very hard for me because everything I bought in Superior was good and cheap, except for the meat. I should have read the reviews for Superior Grocers and the Superior Super Warehouse in Ontario before shopping here. I bought three pounds of chicken breast. When I removed it from the packaging I immediately noticed the meat was slimy and sticky, indicating that it had gone bad. It smelled not so fresh as well. Against my better judgement, I decided to cook some anyway. BIG MISTAKE. I had the worst stomach pain, so bad that I had to lie down. Afterwards some horrific diarrhea. Why do they do this?! I don't know if the meat was expired, not refrigerated properly, who the hell knows. This is hazardous and beyond unacceptable. Very disappointed because after seeing my $90 receipt and being pleasantly surprised at how cheap everything was compared to Albertsons or Vons, I thought I had found a new local supermarket to buy all my groceries. After this terrible experience, I won't be returning here again. Although they are cheap, if they can't handle their meat properly, who knows how poorly they handle their produce and the rest of the food they sell. This is unacceptable. I had a long time i hadnt came to this superior store.. i used to do my shopping here EXCEPT for the meat..i remember buying shrimp and when i came home and opened thr bag the smell was just too disgusting!! It smelled like spoiled seafood.. no where near fresh!! Superior has been my go to grocery store for 5 years. Unfortunately this store has poor quality meat. The meats I buy is always smelly and rotten. The back of the store smells bad. The cashiers are not proffesional or trained they are ghetto and speak slang to one another while checking out customers. The lines are terrible they have so many check stands but only use 3 of them. The longest Ive waited in line is 40 minutes. The manager also only hires his own family and close friends. This store is a disgrace and needs to desperately need new management and be inspected. read more
