When selecting it, the top layer looked reasonable -- the marbling appeared normal and the fat-to-meat ratio seemed acceptable, which is why I decided to buy it. However, after opening it at home, I found that the bottom pieces were almost entirely thick layers of fat. The difference in quality between the top and bottom layers was significant. I understand that short ribs naturally contain fat, and I wasn't expecting them to be lean. I was already prepared for them to be on the fattier side. But this went far beyond what would be considered normal -- the overall quality felt inconsistent and disappointing. Consumers rely on what they can see when selecting products. When the visible portion differs so drastically from what's underneath, it raises concerns about how the meat is being packaged. Additionally, compared to online platforms like Weee where customer service is easily accessible, there doesn't seem to be a clear or convenient feedback channel for in-store purchases. Just to clarify, this review is strictly for the bakery inside 99 Ranch Market, not the market itself. I still come here once in a while for Asian ingredients, condiments, and random things I need for the house. I've been to plenty of Asian bakeries over the years, so I was pretty excited to grab a birthday cake from the bakery inside 99 Ranch Market. The cake looked great visually and the price was reasonable at around $32, which honestly made it feel like a solid find at first. Now don't get me wrong, I actually like Asian-style cakes because they're usually lighter, fluffier, and not overly sweet. That balance is what makes them so good. But this one just missed the mark completely. The cake lacked flavor overall, the frosting tasted flat, and even the sponge cake itself didn't have that soft fluffy texture that good Asian bakeries are known for. It looked way more appetizing than it actually tasted. Everyone took a few bites and kind of just stopped eating it. For me, this was probably the most underwhelming Asian bakery cake I've had in a while. I actually found the mini tote bags being sold here near the cash register for $3. It's not bad especially when the Trader Joe's ones are ridiculously hard to find. I like Ranch-- I really do, but the bakery and prepared food sections are all kinds of messed up. It's always a gamble between unsanitary conditions, food turning rancid, and apathetic staff. I bought some Buddha meal yesterday night and had it today and it was sour. I was not happy. The pastry case usually has flies in it. Near closing, unsold food is bundled up and sold as a 2 for 1 special, but this discounted label obscures the original labels that have the ingredients and allergy info, making it annoying for anyone with dietary restrictions. The frozen and pantry deals are top notch, but fresh produce tends to be overpriced, even with weekly sales. Also, I was a little miffed that they started deleting points that are unused in 1 year. I was at like 900 points or something, almost ready to claim the $10 reward, when my points dropped back down to 100 unexpectedly. I don't spend $1000 a year at Ranch, so the rewards system is now pretty useless to me. read more

I had to have some udon noodles so I went to 99. It's been a while but it felt like visiting an old friend. It was a busy Sunday with lots of people and a full parking lot. The aisles were fully stocked with inventory but I couldn't find the edamame where it used to be. I think it was moved to another area. I didn't look super hard for it so I'm sure I would have found it eventually. I also couldn't find any canned kimchi. I once thought it wouldn't be fresh enough but I realized it might worth trying. I asked a store employee and he was super nice even using his phone to tell me what aisle I could find it, due to our not speaking the same language. Shout out to him. Very kind man. I didn't find it but still kindness like that should be acknowledged. Overall, I ended up getting silken tofu, kimchi from the fridge section, udon noodles, soy sauce and I think Ava got something. 5/14/24 I had a list and it was to supply myself with fairly traditional Asian cooking and it was a MISSION---coz it took awhile to amass the items. Firstly it's not my usual 99 Ranch branch AND I'm unfamiliar with most of the stuff. On this trip I needed: Rice flour, ginger paste, canned water chestnuts, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, garlic chili paste, hoisin sauce, green beans, chicken, and milk I could not for the life of me find the da@# ginger paste! Oh and couldn't find staff to ask either. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally got what I came for. It feels quite cramped at this location. The aisles are a bit narrow and there's plenty of space that they've used to put other inventory to make the best use of the space. As stated, it feels crowded. The produce department is not as fresh looking as I'd like-some vegetables appears to have been wilted or past its prime. Price-wise, like everything & everywhere else, fair to $$$. This place is so cool! We don't come here very often, but when we do, it's always a treat! My daughter had been craving some lychee jelly cups, so that was what we came here for. But we also found some cool ramen and some ginger chews that we also decided to try. We tore right into the lychee jelly cups when we got into the car and they're amazing! Being it is a large chain store, prices are higher in comparison to the mom and pop own stores, but that's the cost for convenience and a shorter drive than to Diamond Bar, OC, or the SGV. Their weekly ad hits on Fridays so you can definitely find some good deals. The store has its own bakery. Pastries are freshly baked daily. Their cakes are not overly sweet. There's also a hot deli fast food section at the back of the store. I've purchased their Peking duck, soy chicken, and roasted pork. Taste just like one you would get at Sam Woo or in Chinatown. You can also buy a whole fish and asked for it to be fried. There's fresh live seafood swimming in the tanks. Cons: Parking lot is crowded and there's never enough parking. The store can get pretty busy. Avoid weekends if possible. The very rude older man working the meat section. He's been there for years and has nothing, but attitude. I had a very negative experience with a cashier named Joy S. I was racially profiled and accused of not paying for my items, even though my card was charged. My total purchase was $15.62, and I also requested to withdraw $40, which brought the total charge to $56.83. Despite this, the cashier acted as if I hadn't paid for my items, even though the receipt clearly showed the purchase and charge. We wish we had a 99 Ranch closer to us, but we're glad that this store is close enough, instead of driving all the way to West Covina. Plenty of parking available. This store is always clean. Today, we picked up our daily staple, 50 lbs. of jasmine rice to last for a couple of months. Plus, we found a 50 lbs. rice dispenser by Tamaya which was reasonably priced. Then of course, we couldn't forget to buy the thin sliced beef to cook bulgogi tonight with vegetables. Forgot to pick up some kimchi, but I'll have to do that next time. Rancho Cucamonga (RC) 99 Ranch Market is my most visited Asian supermarket as it is the closest one to where I live. Glad they opened one up in the Inland Empire. Otherwise, I'm normally out in the San Gabriel area at the San Gabriel Superstore. This 99 Ranch usually are well stocked with their merchandise except when during high peak COVID-19 scare period... then they may be low or nil with their goods. I love shopping for head shrimp, durian, shitake mushrooms, and rambutan here. Of course I do buy other items, but those are my go-to. Prices aren't too bad... very comparable to other Asian markets. They also have a BBQ deli where I pick up dinner sometimes. Staff is normally pleasant, but you can't expect too much from an Asian supermarket. When 99 Ranch opened in Rancho Cucamonga, their presence was much welcomed. Prior to this, the Asian community would have to make far trips to seek out traditional Asian groceries. They aren't the best, and can often be pricey... but they are a lot closer. Covid Safety - Limited capacity. Face mask enforced. Wipes at the entrance for the carts. 6 feet distancing encouraged. Separation at the cashier at check out. When my mom wanted to come here I dreaded it so much, as I just showered. I don't know why but Asian grocery stores are SO STINKY. American grocery stores always smell fresh. They have meat and fish too, but for some reason the Asian grocery stores always smell terrible, and even worst is that the scent sticks to you even if you barely dropped in real fast. I have been coming here more often since the release of Brown Sugar Boba Ice Cream Bar. Prior to this I would have to drive to OC, so when I saw it locally I had to buy LITERALLY 4 boxes to share with my cousins, niece and nephew. They don't even love boba in their milk teas but they love the boba in this ice cream bar. Somehow the boba is so soft despite being within the ice cream bar. Usually boba gets hard after refrigerated. Yummmm!! First Visit. Driving by, decided to stop in. Late evening and the store was very empty with few customers and quiet. The location was clean with a nice meat, dessert and produce area. I did notice the fresh fish area was not fully stocked. Late in the evening so maybe not the time when the fresh fish or shipments arrive. This may be in the morning.
