Tom and Jerry's Roofing

Tom and Jerry's Roofing

It's rare to see a contractor with only positive ratings these days, so choosing Tom and Jerry's…read morewas a no-brainer for that alone. I needed to replace the roof on a new home for my son. I obtained a few estimates from different contractors, and they were not the cheapest, but they were reasonably priced with far better reviews than the cheaper option, which is another reason I chose them. Thomas is highly responsive to communication, which again is quite unusual with most contractors in my experience, so that was a nice plus too. They provided evidence of insurance upon request. We paid a 50% deposit to get on the schedule and I was able to pay that by credit card without an extra fee, which was appreciated since it allowed me to get reward points on the purchase. A crew of three guys came out to the house early in the morning and completed the job just before dark. They did a phenomenal job. Each step was documented with pictures to show where rotten decking needed to be replaced, and an explanation of everything. Despite already being reasonably priced, Thomas gave us a nice discount for the extra decking on the final invoice, which was a happy surprised and very much appreciated. They also cleaned up very well after themselves. If you need a new roof or any kind of roof work, Tom and Jerry Roofing is the best there is without a doubt!

Extremely Disappointing Experience from a Company We Once Trusted…read moreWe have used Findlay Roofing in the past with great success, which makes this experience all the more frustrating. What should have been a relatively simple project turned into an absolute comedy of errors. Our request was straightforward: replace two small "P" shoots on our front porch with larger ones to prevent clogging and water backup, and replace a downspout that my son accidentally crushed with his golf club. Nothing complicated. The representative came out, assessed the situation, and suggested installing gutter guards on the small section of gutter above our front porch. Great! We had a plan, or so I thought. Nearly a week passed without a quote. After several follow-ups, I finally received an estimate for gutter guards on my ENTIRE house. Not remotely what we discussed or requested. I was then passed along to a manager who proceeded to tell me what I needed and sent photos of the proposed solution. When the installer arrived, he brought an enormous, hideous elbow for my front porch that looked nothing like what had been discussed. To make matters worse, he had the wrong downspout. The installer returned for a THIRD visit, finally replaced the correct downspout, but still had the same oversized, unsightly elbow for the porch. At that point, I was so frustrated that I told him to just leave it alone. Then came the invoice...$600 for a single 10 foot downspout. They graciously knocked off $100 for all our trouble making it $500 (insert eye roll here), but offered no meaningful adjustment for the fact that the ORIGINAL problem with our front porch was never resolved. And just when I thought this experience couldn't get more ridiculous, the installer mentioned that another manager had suggested, "Why don't we add a gutter guard?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! That was the recommendation from the very first visit! The entire reason we were in this mess was that no one at Findlay could manage to communicate, coordinate, or provide an accurate quote for the work we actually requested. To add insult to injury, I was made to feel as though Findlay was doing me some enormous favor by taking on such a small job, since they apparently don't typically handle projects of this size. Mind you, Findlay installed all of our brand new gutters just six years ago and we had it on our radar to replace flashing next year to the tune of $15,000 with them. I would think that being a loyal, repeat customer might count for something. The ladies answering the phones were pleasant, and I appreciate their courtesy. Unfortunately, that was about the only positive part of this experience. Three visits, multiple phone calls, repeated miscommunications, an astronomical invoice for one downspout, and the original problem still isn't fixed. I have recommended Findlay Roofing in the past based on our previous positive experiences. After this absolute circus, I would have a very difficult time recommending them again. What a disappointing experience from a company I once held in such high regard.

Georgia Roof Advisors

In 35 years of homeownership, Georgia Roof Advisors is one of the best companies we've worked with…read more After moisture appeared on our ceiling, they thoroughly inspected our roof inside and out and determined that the roof itself was in excellent condition. They identified a few skylight and boot seals that needed attention, and we were extremely pleased with the repairs, the crew, and the price. They even cleaned up our skylights as they wrapped up their repairs! When we later called with questions about continued moisture, they promptly sent an expert to investigate. After another careful inspection, they determined that our aging HVAC system was the likely source. They never try to sell you something you don't need. Courteous, knowledgeable, responsive, and honest--and locally owned. We highly recommend Georgia Roof Advisors.

Roofers in general have a deservedly bad reputation but trust me when I say this business is above and beyond the best roofing company you will work with. Pictures and explanations are clear and thought out and the communication from scheduling to billing is easy and convenient.

I'm all too familiar with the scams and unethical b'ness practices in the home improvement industry…read moreand it often feels like a matter of finding which company will end up causing the least liability at end of job as opposites finding a company that is qualified. Hicks is Big. They been around for a while and have mastered this game. You will end up paying twice for the same job. You will not get support for their work unless they think an opportunity to make more money is there (instead of fixing a job that should have been completed properly in the first place). Also - check their estimates - their disclosures are not only humorous but against public policy. It actually says they guarantee pretty much none of their work. Sadly, For most homeowners, once they are made aware of this after the fact they end up paying up again it realizing such clauses are not enforceable.

Rather than fix the problem or do an investigation, David simply said that he had only purchased the assets of the previous owner and not the liabilities and would not do the work that we had paid them to do. He further stated that I could sue the previous owner but that the previous owner had retired to Florida and had a federal tax lien against him. I was blown away not only that they would not replace decking that I had already paid for but that they would refuse to take any responsibility. David further had the gall to condition his fixing the problem with us giving them another project to offset the cost! I can't believe that a company could have such low integrity.
