Walked in on 8/28 around 7:30pm, we were in the Avalon area and decided to give this place a try. We sat at the high top in-between the bar and host stand. We waited about 15 mins and we're never greeted. One of the bartenders were able to check on the group to the left of us. She even made another round of drinks for them, while I couldn't even get a water. I asked one of the hostess if we could get some service, she said yes and would find a server. The young hostess seemed to care less and was more interested on playing with her phone. We decided to leave. If it takes longer then 15 mins to get water, I couldn't imagine how long it'd take to get our food. While making our way out I notified the host we decided to leave. Good spot for drinks/ brunch. This place is one of the few restaurants at the Avalon which has brunch on Saturday's. The parking at Avalon can be rough depending on the time of day- at peak times you might find your self circling in the parking decks (which are free by the way). They have a few vegetarian options on the menu. I tried the nachos and was let down by them unfortunately. They were chips with melted Colby jack cheese on them not white queso like I was expecting. I loved this place when it was El Felix and Superica is great too. The interior decor is basically the same and there are some new items on the menu. It's very authentic Tex-Mex food and the service was great. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. I had the chicken and steak tacos al carbon and I enjoyed the flavors and quality. The tortillas tasted especially fresh and homemade and the dish came with a small dipping sauce. The chips and salsa before the meal were also tasty, I liked the salsa verde the best. My only advice would be to add more wet ingredients to the dishes such as a dollop of sour cream or guacamole. I do not care for dry Mexican food and this would greatly improve the dishes. I really enjoyed this place! My waitress was great. She provided delicious suggestions. The restaurant was a tad too dark for me. I had to use the light from my phone to even read the menu. While I was looking over the menu, the chips and salsa arrived at my table. The chips were perfectly thin and crispy. There were 2 kinds of salsa, a fire roasted that is made in house and an avocado tomatillo salsa. Both were super flavorful! I could really taste the smokiness in the fire roasted salsa and it was spicier than the green salsa. I ordered the tacos al pastor for my main which is crispy pork belly and grilled pineapple in corn tortillas. The pork belly was delightful! I didn't get much pineapple as that would have helped cut the heat. I barely made it through all 3 tacos . The absolute best thing was the side of refried beans! I've been to the Superica in Buckhead and the Beltline and this one is my favorite! As far as atmosphere, it's pretty much the same but I like how this one is located in Avalon so you get a chance to walk around and maybe do some shopping while you wait. They do not take reservations but you can join their waitlist on their website! I recommend joining 2 hours before your planned dinner time on weekends because they do get packed! The service was SO fast. My sister and I both ordered the chicken verde enchiladas and they were delicious. The side of rice and beans were average tasting but the enchiladas have soo much flavor. Superica is one of my go-spots when dining at Avalon. The waits can get very long, so I try to go during off-peak times. The chips are terrific (not too thick like many Tex-mex places), and both salsas they serve are really tasty. The menu is more unique than typical Tex-Mex spots. For entrees, I typically stick to chicken enchiladas, but the puffy tacos are good too (and very filling). The drink menu has a good variety of liquor and beer. The ambiance skews trendy. Take the cabbage off and reveal the smallest shrimp you've seen. Maybe three on each taco. All for the bargain price of $20. The rest of the menu isn't much different on the border or some other chain. Good place to drink and people watch. read more

I do not typically give restaurant reviews. I'll be a loyal patron of great restaurants and I'll never return to bad restaurants. This situation is a little different, however. I've been eating at the Krogg St and Battery Supericas for quite a while. Both locations are phenomenal in terms of food and service. If my experience in Alpharetta had been only slightly off, I wouldn't be writing this review tonight. It wasn't just slightly off though, it was terrible from top to bottom. I arrived at 6pm and ordered a margarita and cheese dip. I received my cheese dip at 6:40 from a member of the kitchen, so I wasn't able to place my dinner order. By the time I was able to order (a good while later), I didn't have time to eat anymore. It took 45 additional minutes for my food to be ready, so I had to get it to-go. I was able to leave with food at 8 around pm. So I am finally sitting at home eating dinner at 9:30 pm. But imagine my surprise when I opened the steak fajitas and they were grayish brown pieces of meat with no sear whatsoever and limp as noodles. The shredded cheese was hard as a brick. I've never received food like this at Krogg St or the Battery locations. I've also always received my food pretty quickly at those locations. I absolutely loved Superica. I grabbed a seat in the bar, as it was starting to get busy for the evening rush. I was immediately greeted with a glass of water, fresh chips, and 2 types of incredible salsa. As I devoured the chips & salsa, I quenched my thirst with a cold Dos Equis Amber draft. I love Cheese Enchiladas and their's looked great, but I was craving Chicken Fajitas, and they were perfect--great flavor with a nice sear. The Fajitas were served with Sour Cream, Shredded Cheddar & freshly-made Pico, Guacamole, warm Flour Tortillas, and unbelievably delicious Garlic Butter Sauce to dip the Fajitas in. Rice & Beans were also served on the side and they were average, but the stars of the show are the Fajitas and Salsa, so I didn't mind. In addition, I ordered a small side of classic Tex Mex Queso which only added to my incredible meal. When I was done, I was so full I couldn't move, and I felt the urge to give Superica a standing ovation but opted not to make a fool of myself. I love this place and I have gotten many people hooked. I stay at Avalon often because one of my biggest customers is here and I always come by for the fajitas !! Hands down the best I've ever had. The chicken is so tender and flavorful. The flour tortillas are definitely hand made and fresh you can tell they don't have that "I've been sitting in a plastic bag for a few weeks" taste. Visited Superica tonight. My wife and I ordered the Shrimp tacos. 2 small tacos with 3 shrimp a piece. Pricing was not clear on the menu. Ended up charging me additional for the shrimp tacos because evidently 2 street shrimp tacos are $20 and the shrimp is additional $5. Ridiculous! Will never go back. Service was good! Have been a long time Superica fan. As others have noted, the service here vastly underperforms the other locations. 1) to-to service is rarely available...turned off and on due to volume/server availability. What's confounding is the place is always packed, so the justification for hiring more staff to serve better is there. 2) three times now when ordering to-go food, I've been told verbatim "they are bagging your food now" and then proceeded to wait 20-30 minutes longer, in addition to the quoted 20 min. I respect they are too busy to process orders fast, so no issue there. But lying to customers about the process creates unnecessary angst for all parties. Also, if restricting to go orders to walk ins, only, this adds a. Additional burden of wait time. Today was one hour from placing of order. If they can figure out service and honesty it would go a long way. I'm sure it's a quandary though because if service and honesty increased the increase in business wouldn't be handled...hope someone can figure out the management situation for all parties! read more

The Basics: The El Felix is located in the Avalon shopping center. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and from the moment I walked in, I knew this wasn't going to be your average Mexican restaurant. The service and food were wonderful here! There is also a ton of free parking around the Avalon shopping center. Things I liked: The food here was all amazing! Our waitress (who was wonderful) suggested we start with the queso, so we obliged. The queso was fantastic-- you could tell there were lots of cheeses in it which added a ton of flavor. I then ordered the Chicken Tacos al carbon and my friend ordered the chicken nachos. Both dishes were of amazing quality and the chicken was grilled and incredibly fresh. We left this restaurant extremely satisfied and already wanting to go back! The service, food, and atmosphere all made for a great night out! Things I didn't like: Nothing! All the food was incredible and although it was busy on the Sunday night when we went, we sat immediately. Highly Disappointed. WAY OVERPRICED for what is served! For starters we ordered an appetizer of nachos. Barely enough of an appetizer to feed 4. Ordered a margarita $12 and it was a short little glass! What Mexican restaurant serves shot glasses of margaritas these days??? Seriously this place is way overpriced and quality of food was unfortunately not to par. Ordered fajitas for two. The main course took over 30 minutes to arrive. Fajitas should be sizzling and HOT when served. These were cold to lukewarm warm. No steam coming from that plate!! Many cold spots from sitting on the warmer for 30 min. All of our food was cool. My youngest son is a food server at a high end Italian restaurant and he agreed the food was cold when served. Had them bring another plate of fajitas as was not about to pay $50 for cold fajitas. It's a shared plate but the rice and beans were only enough to serve a portion for one NOT two. Granted they took off the fajitas from the bill. But I'd rather have been served HOT fajitas with on 10-15 min wait than cold fajitas and wait 30 minutes for something I would end up having to return. Also all the protein is smoked. If you like the smoke flavor then you may enjoy the food. Personally I dislike anything smoked. Had I known- I would have avoided this restaurant. Won't be back. Overpriced and definitely not worth it. Being from California- I know excellent Mexican food and what it should taste like and at a fraction of the cost. $50 for steak /chicken fajitas with a serving portion of side for just one person. My family had a great experience at Superica! Since we went on Father's Day, we couldn't put our names down over the phone, but even with up to an hour and a half wait estimate, our table was actually ready in 40 minutes. We sat outside, and I loved how their outdoor seating area is completely covered and kept cool with fans. We ordered the Classic Queso, Chicken Fajita, Chicken Verde Enchilada, Grilled Chile Relleno, Chicken Tacos, and Hamburguesa. Everyone enjoyed their food! Our server, Kelly, was awesome! She patiently explained the menu to our parents and answered their questions. She frequently checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely be returning here! read more

Super friendly, really engaging, and was probably the best server I've ever had. The El Felix is keeping it high quality all the way around with food, service, and atmosphere. Some of my favs... The free green salsa, it's legit so good. The whole snapper. The El Lopez - just a variety of items like a "queso puff", enchiladas, a taco, etc. It's a great combo. All the tacos, but specifically the pork belly tacos. That pork belly is the best I've ever had. The hamburger. It's like a chili cheese burger, I'm not usually into chili cheese burgers but Mia highly recommended it and it came through. I'm a huge fan.
