This is my go-to spot in the area for some authentic szechuan cuisine. I wrote about how I didn't think C&T wok in morrisville really did szechuan food justice, but super wok does not disappoint. We always order the tri-pepper chicken, the mapo tofu, and the dumplings in chili oil. Fair warning though: tri-pepper chicken is killer spicy. This is not a joke. But the flavor is spot-on. You can just smell the szechuan peppercorns and it'll make you sweat already. I also tried to dan dan noodles here one time and I am definitely going to order that again. Flavorful and large portions here! The mapo tofu here is so much better than what I've tried elsewhere (save for gourmet kingdom in carrboro). This is very very authentic food, evident by all the Chinese folks that eat here. Great little place in Cary. May not look like much from the outside, but you'll thank me after you try it. read more

Had some very good general tso chicken here along with the spicy fish filet which I definitely recommend. The cow fun was not wide noodles here and it was the only thing that was good but not on the same level of awesome as everything else. Chatham Square has such a nice variety of quality restaurants, but unfortunately the exteriors and interiors aren't all that impressive. Super Wok suffers from small signage and a building that's below grade, as well as a cramped interior with only about 12 tables. But, if you can make it past the cheap looks, the food really is pretty good. My husband ordered a hot and sour soup to start, and I got the eggdrop soup. We also ordered some spring rolls to share. I suspect the soups weren't made to order, as they came out within about minute. But I don't mind too much, soup tastes pretty much the same whether it's fresh or been sitting in a heated pan for an hour. My husband's soup was really good. He always leaves the tofu and mushrooms for me at the end. It had a really good, spicy, rich flavor to it, and I loved the mushrooms. My own eggdrop soup was pretty bland. I used a lot of the soy sauce and crunchy noodles to try and salvage it. But at $1.75 and $2.50, they were good sized servings and cheap enough to try once. I'd probably just let my husband order his hot and sour soup and get his leftovers next time. The spring rolls were pretty greasy and they seemed just spiced with pepper. Again, I wasn't all that impressed and would probably order one of the dumplings next time, but at $2.50 for 2, it's a place you can afford to do trial and error over time til you find the dishes that work for you. For the entrees I ordered the crispy tofu, and my husband ordered the orange beef. I was really considering the "Tri pepper tofu", but with 2 peppers (the highest they go) I thought it could be too spicy for me. The crispy tofu ended up being really flavorful, and at one 1 pepper rating, it was pretty tolerable for me. I think maybe next time I could probably try something with 2 peppers. The broccoli around the rim of the plate was steamed separately from rest of the dish, so it's quite unflavorful unless you cover it with the tofu's sauce. It also wasn't nearly as hot, temperature-wise, as the rest of the dish, so eat it quickly if you plan to eat it. The crispy tofu came with a small dish of rice that perhaps a little meager. I ended up with about half the tofu as leftovers, but I have some more rice at home to make up with it, so I'll have that as leftovers on Monday. My husband was really impressed with his orange beef. He said it was the best Chinese dish he's had in this area so far. He ate his whole entree, leaving the broccoli for me. I had some of the beef, and it was really crispy and tender. Though it was sliced into rather large slices, you could easily cut it with the side of your fork. The service was very attentive the whole time we were there, and I thought we really had a good experience there. The appetizers I had ordered were not spectacular, but at the cheap prices I'm not too disappointed. I'll just try some different appetizers next time. I'll probably order a set of dumplings and Tom Kha soup when we visit again. Maybe I'll even get the courage to try the "2 pepper" entrees! read more

We visited Super Wok for the first time last night, and I really enjoyed it. We each got different appetizers and different entrees, and enjoyed sharing. Our server was very helpful in answering our questions about menu items. I enjoyed my Stir Fry Pea Tips entree a lot. My favorite appetizer at our table was the cold noodles with peanut sauce, though the spring rolls and fried eggplant appetizers were good as well. Easily the best Chinese takeout I've had in the area. The food was delicious and had tons of spice and flavor. Dumplings in chili oil were delicious. Lo mein is lo mein but I love a good noodle. I ordered the Dragon and Phoenix and thought they made a mistake because when I opened the container I saw shrimp. They did give me the chicken dish but put some kind of fried spicy pineapple shrimp that I didn't order in the other compartment of the container. I was not mad because it was good but I guess it could be an issue if you a shellfish allergy since it was in the same container as the chicken. Also got an egg roll and egg drop soup, both were pretty standard, nothing special. read more

We've been regular at Super Wok since 2008! It's one of the better authentic Sichuan restaurant in the greater triangle area. The portion have anyways been big, and dishes have always been consistently good. Our all time favorite is Spicy Crispy Fish Fillet... think beer battered fish fry drizzled with rattan pepper oil and chili pepper flakes. Other favorite includes Squirrel Tail, no not literally, just score cut tilapia fillet, deep fried with sweet and sour sauce. Any of the Water Boil meat dishes especially fish or pork. It's meat cooked in hot chili pepper sauce with rattan pepper and cabbage. The meat always comes out really soft and tender. Favorite appetizer: beef tripe in spicy sesame oil Last couple weeks, we brought our cousins visiting from NYC where there's TONS more authentic Chinese eatery, and they really like it at Super Wok. IMPORTANT. Overcharged. Their menu prices don't align with the actual price, which is fraud. They charge you a dollar more past their menu price, on everything. I checked the past 5 times I've eaten here and every time the charge doesn't line up with menu price, a dollar more on each item. Used to eat here all the time, but after deliberate deception I will not be eating here again. Made this a photo as well because no one looks at reviews haha. EDIT: They updated their menu, however they still overcharge but very subtly. They don't list items purchased on your receipt, and they add a little extra to your receipt. I've got to update my review, sadly, because of three less than acceptable take out experiences from here. The first time I assumed they were off their game, the beef in the mushroom beef was tough, and the cold chicken starter with peanut sauce was bland and completely flavourless. The second time the pork dish, and the beef dish I ordered were alright, but somewhat greasy, and the meat had gristle. The third time I ordered kung pao chicken, and beef with mushrooms again. A glutton for punishment. The kung pao chicken came with about four pieces of chicken, and so many mushrooms you'd think they'd mention that on the menu. At most other place here kung pat chicken has some celery, and peanuts- this place served us 10 dollars of button mushrooms with the smallest shreds of chicken, and not very many of those. I called and complained and they took it off the order, which I am grateful for, but I do not think I shall get take out from here again. read more

We tried this place for takeout because of the online reviews. It's been a struggle to find a decent Chinese food place. Our pallets are used to New England style Chinese. I have to say overall this place is pretty delicious. We enjoyed that their lo mein noodles are thicker than we're used to. The crab rangoons are very stuffed. Here's the thing, I like their food. I enjoy the hostess. She's super nice and I've taken the time to get to know her. Although is 7th grade to you to work? They were the first place I ordered from and they have great Asian fusion food. I love the rice cakes and pork dishes. However the customer service is just not there. It's not good. The delivery takes over an hour. They have brought me the wrong food a few times. When I order take out, I am usually out running errands and it's still not ready. I don't understand why this place only has a 3 1/2 star average review, I think it's because the people writing reviews are expecting Americanized Chinese food and service. What this place is is authentic Chinese food and service. The workers here are from China, they speak Chinese, and they cook authentic Chinese food. The service is typical of any restaurant you would go to in China, they serve their food family style and they will not frequently come back to check on your table as American servers do. That being said, everyone who works here is very friendly and the food is phenomenal. I have ordered several dishes here and I have thoroughly enjoyed everything, with a handful of dishes even blowing my mind. It is hard to find authentic Szechuan In North Carolina. Yum!!! read more

I was curious about this little restaurant and decided to have dinner place was very clean a plus, server was super nice and great smile. Menu was very well done and beautiful pictures on the menu. Super Wok pretty much wocked my socks. Someone had to ham it up . . . Now that the deed has been done it's important to explain just why Super Wok is so delicious. Ron W. suggested a couple of dishes and we all added a few of our faves: tri-pepper chicken, twice cooked pork, dan dan noodles, pea shoots, string beans, kung pao chicken, and fish in spicy sauce. Each dish has already been reviewed in detail by Christina G. and Ron W. so I'll just add brief notes on the most memorable. Twice-cooked pork: Old standby, liked the dish at C&T Wok better, however. Pea shoots: Veggies are good for you! Recommend. Kung pao chicken: Not your grimy/slightly sketchy neighborhood Chinese American fare. This was good. Recommend. Tri-pepper chicken: RECOMMEND!! This was so good even vegetarians would like it. Rice: The world's staple, Super Wok seems to cook their rice in magical water or maybe they only select the finest grains. Pretty darn good Chinese food. Definitely seemed less Americanized than most Asian restaurants--they even had a traditional Chinese menu and an Americanized menu separated out. I opted for the Chinese style kung pao chicken and it was good--a lot of food, the meat was tender, and it was spicy (what I expected from Szechuan cuisine). I was mildly annoyed that the takeout price was more expensive than then $6.25 lunch special price they had on the menu. Two lunch entrees came out to $20, so it was on the more expensive side of Chinese take out--but the quality was good so I guess I shouldn't complain...but the menu said $6.25 . . . Anyway, the food is far superior to almost every other Chinese joint I've tried in the triangle, so I'd go back! read more

The key to Super Wok is the Chinese menu. And I don't just mean the one that they have on their website or that they hand you (with convenient English translations provided)--I mean if you go, consider having one of the waitresses (or a friend who reads Chinese characters) translate the menus written in hand drawn Chinese calligraphy on red paper by the cash register. Those menus are the "special" banquet menus--and I highly recommend finding 8-10 friends you can share a meal with because the food was good. [Caveat: I am Chinese American from the Bay Area so this is "good" in comparison to what you can get in NC--it's "decent" in terms of California Chinese food]. After eating here 3-4 times and really enjoying the food (among the highlights: pea tips, pot stickers, string beans w/pork sauce--a definite favorite, lotus root w/pork belly, spareribs w/Chinese bbq sauce, cumin beef, rice cake noodles w/pork, pork w/dried tofu, fried eggplant w/pork and chives) we decided to have our wedding banquet here (for just immediate family) and were very pleased with the offerings (which the waitress tweaked for us)--we were able to enjoy Peking duck, lobster w/ginger and scallions, honey walnut prawns, and a whole steamed fish (among other items). And it was all very reasonable/affordable, especially considering how much peking duck and lobster typically runs you in CA--something that's definitely in Super Wok's favor! By far one of the best Chinese restaurants I have been to in the Triangle! Yum we ordered three dishes and all shared. The food was amazing, spicy, and delicious. We had the Tri Pepper Chicken, Ma Po Tofu, and Stir Fried Lamb with Cumin. It's hard to pick a favorite between these three because I really liked them all. The tofu dish was pretty spicy but so tasty, I'm usually use to Asian tofu dishes being fried and was so happy that this dish was not it was so good, I would definitely order it again. I'm not a huge lamb eater but wow the flavors were spot on. And that chicken oh my goodness I'll be dreaming about that tonight. I've been looking for some good Chinese for awhile now and it just so happened I've been craving it this week. Driving home I realized Super Wok is really not that far from my home at all. I see myself stopping by for plenty of take out in the near future. I was intrigued by the lotus root with pork belly on the menu and definitely want to try that next time. The restaurant is located in a strip mall off of Maynard and may be deceiving from the outside but DO step foot inside you will not be disappointed. The dishes are huge and there is plenty to share. The food here is solid! I'm not an expert on Schezuan food but I thought it was very good here. BF and I dined in (takeout is offered) and we were the only ones there. Despite this service was still a bit slow and each time they refilled our drinks they neglected to give us ice, a bit odd. However, I've had much worse service at Chinese restaurants. Anyway, we tried 3 dishes based on Yelp reviews, the dumplings in chili oil, the tri-pepper chicken, and the pea shoots with garlic. All 3 were great, my favorite was the dumplings!!! I was pretty much dipping everything into that heavenly oil. It's not spicy at all but has a sweeter flavor. The heat is definitely there on that chicken but it's tolerable. Just don't eat the peppers. The pea shoots balance out the heat of the chicken very well and makes for a good pairing. I always find it best to order a meat dish and a vegetable dish . Though this place is a bit out of my way, I'm sure I'll be back! read more

After hearing about Super Wok from various friends, and reading the mostly glowing reviews on Yelp, I finally made the trek to Cary to try it for myself. My friend and I ordered a lot of food - like, really, a LOT - so we could sample as much as possible from the extensive menu. Overall, I enjoyed everything I had. Interestingly, the tri-pepper chicken, which gets raves on this website, was probably my least favorite of our dishes. The peppers were good, the sauce - mostly chili oil from what I could tell - was great, but the chicken itself was only so-so. It was actually better the next day, after soaking up more of the sauce overnight in the fridge. My favorite dish was the fish in spicy sauce. The fish was nicely breaded, crunchy yet tender, and the sauce was absolutely delicious - great spice! We ordered salt and pepper squid, which was well-prepared but perhaps a bit bland - until we tried dipping the pieces in the sauce from our fish dish. Oh, yeah. We did manage to order some vegetables as well. I tried lotus root for the first time, which had the crisp crunch of water chestnuts, with some yummy pork belly mixed in for added flavor. The Chinese broccoli was tasty as well. As I ate, I couldn't help looking around at what other diners were having: hot pots of noodles and soups, pea shoots, various unidentifiable meats. Everything looked amazing. Which means I will have to revisit Super Wok soon. And luckily for me, it's close enough that I would be willing to grab takeout from there, too. read more

I'd heard good things about this place via other websites. So, it didn't take too much to convince my better half to give this place a try on a chilly February weekend. We'd been living in the area for almost a year and hadn't experienced very many successful and tasty Chinese restos out here. Given that we had just returned from a recent and delicious trip to Ottawa...the prospects didn't seem too promising - esp. with a cheesy name like "Super Wok". First off, exterior impressions. This is literally a nondescript hole in the wall in a tiny corner of a strip mall just off of Maynard that seems to house several day businesses as well as a few more restos. You could almost pass by this place without ever noticing the gem inside. Once you walk inside tho, it's definitely a nice clean albeit small open space housing several tables and booths to be seated at. The menu is small, but the dishes are well prepared (based off of what we ordered). As others have mentioned, this and Gourmet Kingdom vie for the top spot of Sichuan style restos in the area (at least for me). I kind of have a slight soft sentimental spot for this space tho b/c we found it first (before GK) after much complaint over the area's lack of decent Chinese food (i.e., after a less than stellar experience at HK in Durham). I remember eating here and smiling a bit after tasting that first bite of good Chinese food. What did we get? We ordered a boiled fish in the spicy sichuan chili oil which also came with tofu and crispy fried soybeans on top. To accompany this dish, we also ordered two veggies - pea shoots (young leafy bean sprouts) in garlic and their eggplant with spicy garlic sauce. All of the dishes were phenomenal. I especially loved the pea shoots in garlic since they were amazingly fresh and tasty. I had less of a problem than my wife with the eggplant dish's sauce. And the fish were succulent and tasty. After eating at GK, I actually think the dishes here are less greasy than GK, but I might need to verify and update that at some later point in time. I also felt the pea shoot dish was infinitely better here than GK. In general, I just think the tastes are cleaner here than GK (barely). Well, you really can't go wrong if you're craving Sichuan-style cooking either here or even GK. I know, I'm splitting hairs with the review....but SW has a slight sentimental edge for me....now only if they were 20 miles closer to CH/Carrboro! I also like the fact that they're open fairly late everyday - until 10:30pm, I believe. read more

Super wok, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.... As many reviewers before me have said, this place serves legit Szechwan grub in a bright, cheery atmosphere. My only complaint is that that they place is so small that dining in usually requires a bit of a wait. But on the flip side, their carry out is so lightning fast (~10 minutes), you may as well take it home to eat. Over the last several months, I've tried many of their dishes. The tri-pepper chicken is not to be missed. The recipe for its sauce was recently featured in the Indy, and one glance at that recipe confirmed for me why their food is so good. Like french food, chinese food is based on well-made sauces, and you won't find a drop of the bottled stuff anywhere here. Everything is made from scratch, and the chef is very serious about that. It shows. I honestly haven't had anything from here that I didn't like...I dream about the garlic pea shoots, and sometimes order from this place just for a taste of them. Other awesome choices include hot & sour soup (a steal for a couple of bucks when you dine-in...more expensive & larger portion for carry-out), spicy eggplant, mapo tofu, crispy fish in spicy sauce.
