I bought some ice cream, jalebi, and other stuff. Everything was nice in the store and up front everyone was nice. However, as soon as my family left the store, the lady behind the counter, or the store owner yelled out "Mushrikun". I am a muslim but I never use that word in general. I didnt have a religious conversation with anyone in the store. I did say hi salaam to the lady behind the counter but she didnt respond; maybe she isnt muslim. I had an event for a school function and they were suppose to cater sandwiches. It was the worst experience I ever had. They were an hour late. The food was awful and when I called them the next day to complain. They were very rude accused me of lying about the time and refused to accept responsibility or apologize. My daughter works with a Persian woman who brought ice cream to work. I have never had ice cream with such unusual flavor. I didn't know what to think of it at first and now I can't get enough. I also noticed this ice cream sits well in my stomach. I usually eat Hagen Das or Ben n' Jerry's but too much is can be heavy on the stomach. Afghan Bread Market is now Super Tehran! Gigantic warm fresh naan for $1.60. It's maybe 15" wide by 30" long. You can watch them pulling it out of the oven. We call it "Ironing Board Bread" because it looks like an ironing board. They also have a small selection of groceries, spices, pastries, teas. There is also a larger Persian store two doors away and this place has a meat counter open only on Saturdays where you can get great lamb. Go here if you ever find yourself in the area. A must go if you like Persian foods, spices, goodies. I frequent both this store and the Afghan store 2 doors down which is just as nice, and a bit lager. They both have everything you need for a Persian household plus fresh flatbread to die for. Go buy yourself a bread, tand the shallot yogurt (mast o moosir), and eat up. On our way to the bar we stopped in at Super Tehran and few were introduced into the world of Persian food. The two gentlemen inside the store were so nice and so helpful. My wife found some cucumber's for a dollar and I asked about a pastry and one of the guys grabbed one out and gave it to me for free. It was pretty good I just don't know what it was called. I searched unsuccessfully everywhere for tahini to make homemade hummus. My last resort was to try Super Tehran. Not only did I immediately find a few different choices of tahini but was I ever pleasantly surprised by this little store! A ton of wonderful food items, none better than the fresh baked and still warm flatbread - a HUGE flatbread for only $2! The man and woman behind the counter couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and nice. My wife and I were trying to decide which type of flatbread to buy and the man told the woman to give us one for free. I most strongly recommend shopping at this store. Don't let this little store fool you! It might be small but they've got everything Middle Eastern that your heart desires. They even have a few European goodies. Couple things to keep in mind before going, 1) you can't be over weight when entering this store, the isles are very narrow, and 2) they only take credit cards if you spend more than $10. read more

I've ordered platter #2 for $66 (with tax). Steak and lamb were uncooked also dry and were smelling very badly like rotten eggs, the chicken leg was very sour which I believe it was old, the rice portion was small and was very dirty with black tiny stuff. My local grocery store did not have my favorite seasoning in stock today it's called Vegeta seasoning. So I searched online to see if there's anywhere else I can find it, as it is not an easy seasoning to find, my search led me to super Tehran market so I called them to check before I walked in mind you their website says they sell it and have it in stock but the man who answered the phone told me they doesnt sell it. He answered me without even thinking so fast and just seemed like he didnt care something just felt wrong he answered me so quickly and I didnt believe him. Before the shop was sold to its new owners a few months ago, it was a great place to get Persian food on a budget (especially because it was a bit closer than Bazzar Tajrish from my house). Now that it has been sold, the quality and service of the shop has gone downhill. Their "home-made" bread has gotten much worse, as well as they have raised the prices significantly on almost all the items in their shop. I would not recommend this store at all if you are looking to get any type of good quality Persian food. I am defiantly going to start shopping at Tajrish! read more

Oh how I wish I had found this wonderful shop sooner! The other Persian markets I've tried in the East Bay have had limited selections and/or stale food and/or have just been unappealingly dingy. This one gets everything right: it's the size of a closet but spotless and neat and packed with an unbelievable assortment of the best brands of Persian groceries. The staff is very kind and helpful. Considering the scarce supply of Middle Eastern specialty stores in the central Contra Costa County area (Super Tehran, International Foods right next door, and Sunvalley Market in Walnut Creek), beggers can't be choosers. That said, Super Tehran comes out the best of the 3. If you want Persian products, then I think this is your ONLY choice in central county. The Good News: They have an ample supply of Persian and general Middle Eastern delicacies. Tahini? Dried figs? Halva? Afghan bread? Special spices and seasonings packets? They're got most of it. The Bad News: Their customer service sensibilities need to be westernized a bit before they will gain general acceptance among westerners. (When in Rome, do as the Romans do..... This is a hint.) The Mitigating News: Considering the competition, you will probably be treated better at Super Tehran than at the other two places. The Disappointing News: Looking for Greek, Italian, Kosher, or Armenian products? Forget about it! read more
