This shop always has what I came in for. Not sure what the issue is with the folks that complained about customer service. As a small business owner I understand that there are good days and bad days...but never once has the shop owner not gone out of her way to assist me. I love this place. It is always well stocked and the owners are very polite and helpful. I have been going there since 2008. It's a very clean store with everything you need for cooking Indian food and even everyday non Indian cooking. They have fresh home cooked Indian food available sometimes and their prices are far better than any store I know. I highly recommend this store. read more

Visited for the 1st time yesterday because I wanted some Hing (a spice) to try making an Indian recipe I read in the newspaper. WHAT A WONDERFUL STORE! The woman running the register was as nice as could be, and was so helpful. I ended up wandering around and filling my basket there were so many interesting and delicious looking things to try. And the prices are so low -- for example, the Hing was only $3.99 and when I looked at getting it from Amazon it would have cost me more than $12! I was so inspired after visiting this wonderful little shop that I went home, looked up a bunch of Indian recipes I would like to try making, and I am heading back to India Bazaar again today now that I know where I can find items like Green Cardamom Pods and fresh Curry Leaves. I also bought some of their frozen Naan and various candies/sweets and they were DELICIOUS (and again, so inexpensive!) And I can't emphasize enough don't be shy if you are not Indian (I am Caucasian); I truly was made to feel that they were happy that I was in their store learning about cooking Indian food and were delighted to help me and give me tips. read more

I stumbled upon India Bazaar when I was getting Dunkin Donuts a few doors down. Years ago, my friend made a delicious mango flan and when she taught me how to make it, she told me to use mango puree. It's really hard to find mango puree in stores so I thought I'd come in to see if they have it and luckily, they did! The lady working there was really nice and even gave me tips on how to use to mango puree to make mango lassi by adding yogurt! One huge can of mango puree was enough to make a mango flan and still have some left over for a few lassi drinks. read more

Super convenient if anywhere close to downtown Walnut Creek. I visit when I need something quick. The price for convenience can be high compared to the many Indian supermarkets further away down I-680. Selection of dry goods and freezer foods is decent for a small store. Text was read (since read receipts were on) and may have been after hours but I would have at least expected a response today). Tried to stay local for shopping and finding things but oh well. These guys are broad daylight thieves. I went to buy some Indian grocery and items from the store and they almost charge double the price of another grocery store that's located in concord for the same items and these guys' items are all final sale irrespective of the quality of items they sell. I would not recommend this store, Go to Concord for Indian Grocery, much better pricing and selection of items. read more

India Bazaar doesn't seem to carry everything. no meats, produce seen. didn't check entire store, just the front. store too cramped for me to wander beyond the main aisle. besides, cashier was keeping an eye on me. why? who knows? notice frozen prepped food, many canned/packaged goods, few cookies, candies, snacks. again, could have been in parts of store i haven't perused. asked by cashier what i was looking for? "snacks", i replied buys: maggi "authentic indian noodles", "vegetable atta". -too much fat, some palm oil, no msg -nestle co. product, overboiling-noodle too soft -previous buy, not here, was slightly stale, maybe i waited too long to eat it. -masala spicy just spicy, not hot. take outs: -goods neatly stacked, seem pricy, -high rent commerical strip (near downtown) -parking iffy, lucky to find space. -cashier polite, thanked me. cool. guess they don't have much snacks. she didn't reply to my reply.... read more

This place is strictly for those times when you are out of something and are desperate to get it. This is the only Indian store in the Walnut Creek area and the prices have a massive markup as compared to other stores in Dublin, San Ramon or Concord. This should be more like $$$ and not $. It is surprising that yelp shows this place as inexpensive with a single $. The lady at the store has a smile but if you want to return it she doesn't take it back no matter if you have bought it a minute back. Her smile goes off and she gets angry and defensive if you ask her why you cannot return it. This is the only store that I have encountered where they don't take things back. The reason why she has this I give a damn attitude might be because there is Whole Foods across the street and the shop is near downtown though the only problem is they are nowhere near in terms of quality of products and service is non existent. Even more important check the Expiry date as a lot of stuff are already expired and still there. read more

Went to this store during early covid and found their prices to be practically price gouging. My wife and I buy Maggie noodles all the time. At almost all Indian stores the large pack of noodles is ~$2.60 -$3. With Maggie noodles being sold out everywhere. With no items priced on the shelves we had no way of telling what the price is. Upon checking out we found out that the are charging 6.99 for the large pack. Is this due to covid? No prices anywhere and on checkout she was manually typing in the prices ringing them up as spices. No way, as the customer, was I able to verify any legit pricing structure on any item. read more

I come to India Bazaar every two weeks. They have a great selection of organic mung beans and other organic lentils and beans, amazing organic pureed garlic paste and ginger paste, organic rices and Tilda rice, many spices, organic coconut milk and ghee, good teas, ayurvedic sandalwood soap, tapioca...all of which I buy, and, in season, the most wonderful fresh curry leaves that I cannot be without. I support small independent commerce and this shop is one of my stops. read more

This store sells fungus affected products which can lead to pneumonia or severe gastrointestinal problems . I am attaching a picture of a bread that shows no mfg date or no expiration date . I already complained to FDA . Hopefully they will take some steps soon . We are willing to spend extra dollar but not for expired , unhealthy food . This is the worst Indian grocery store. I was trying to give no stars but not possible. I went there twice & had very bad experience with the owner (guy). Had bad rice ( full of bugs) & tried to get it replaced. Believe it or not, he was not ready for an exchange nor he gave back my money. I was so mad with them & asked them to enjoy the rice & my money. I said good-bye to this shop 5 years back. There are 3 more stores in Concord. I have good experiences with all of them. So try to visit these shops as they are 2000 times better than this shop. read more

I discovered this place through a friend who lives in Walnut creek. I cook a lot of Indian food so I visited this place a lot last year and used to buy a lot of groceries from them. But I soon discovered that they were way over priced! Also, they do not allow you to use your credit/debit card for purchases under $20!!!!!!! Isn't it illegal to do that??? Although the lady who is there all the time is friendly but her store policies are killing her business i think. I have stopped going to this place. read more

I needed a can of Mango Pulp. After about an hour at FoodMax I learned that you can only get it at a Grocery store with an "Indian" food section or at an Indian food specialty store. Its a tiny shop...only two aisles. Not very many items here, so i would suggest calling in first to check if they have what you're looking for. They have a couple of freezers full of specialty foods and they also apparently rent movies here too. All i needed was one can of Mango pulp...but after going though all the trouble of finding this Bazar i thought i might stock up on two whole cans! I was glad to see that they had VISA and Mastercard logo stickers on their front door, cause i was out of cash. The two cans came out to $3.98 and i handed her a credit card...and she told me that there was a $15 spending minimum to buy with a credit card! I was shocked because thats the highest amount i've ever heard of for a minimum charge for a credit card! I decided to take another stroll around to see if i could do a few mercy purchases to come out to an even $15. That didnt end up happening...so i ended up only buying one can and i paid with quarters. It was a low moment for me...and the lady up front seemed a bit irritated that i had entertained the idea of trying to spend $15 at the store. Moral of the Story: Bring CASH...unless you're planning on doing some hard core shopping. read more

It is strange that this place does not have that many reviews, as it is quite a nice find! I usually make the trip all the way down to San Ramon to go to Sikandar's, but this place makes a great substitute to save on gas and nearly 30-40 minutes of driving roundtrip. They carry quite a bit of organic dry goods and spices, which is a huge bonus for me. Items are organized pretty neatly, as there are some stores you visit where it looks like the Tasmanian Devil obliterated through most of it. I did find a couple of jars of expired pickles, but otherwise this store did carry what I wanted. I will definitely be back to pick up more of the organic items. read more

For what it lacks in size, it makes up for in it's excellent customer service and exceptional food selections. My family and I love to come here for our Indian grocery shopping and would recommend it to anyone who is even remotely interested in purchasing Indian food. The prices are decent and I have not had any issues with the quality of the food either. Lastly, their employees are very kind and cater to all of your needs. This store is conveniently located to my home and I often purchased food and kitchenware from them. I no longer frequent the store after receiving a very difficult time when I returned for exchange about six small plates that had a manufacturing flaw that was hidden from view under the label attached to the top of each serving plate. She finally relented and I was able to exchange them but her personality changed from what I had experienced previously. It's too bad. read more

They carry everything you need! And can custom order if they don't have a particular requirement. Their customer service has gone down over time. The lady behind the counter once fooled me into buying a pre mix, saying it's not old and will work fine. Next time when I complained about how the mix had actually turned out (spoiled the milk I was cooking it in) she said all her products are nice and rudely shut the conversation. On my next visit she decided to be rude about my personal appearance. She made some very personal and derogatory remarks about my skin. That was my last visit to this place. It is a relatively small Indian grocery store compared to other Indian stores in the east bay. However, all the items available in the other stores are available here too. The owner of the store is very friendly and helpful in finding the items immediately. The drawback I've noticed is that since this place is understaffed, sometimes expired items are not removed from the shelves. So don't buy anything that does not have an expiry date. The owner makes ready-to-eat Indian sabjis and sells them too. If she hasn't prepared something on the day and the stuff on the counter is a day old she herself will ask you not to purchase it. It's basically a very genuine store that has all Indian grocery items packed in a small place. It's convenient for me because I dont have to go to San Ramon or somewhere else in search of an Indian store. Also, there is enough parking available here. Will definitely buy from here. read more

Small place but very convenient. The next alternative requires driving at least 15 minutes. Sometimes they don't have what I need but most times they have all the basics. A very nice family, always friendly and helpful. I'm happy to have them in my community. Oh, and by the way...all those people who say that the visa card minimum is too high? They have wide selection of Indian food, ingredients, frozen food, etc. The price is reasonable, and best of all, they open until late. The only drawback is that not very often you might find expired packages...., just pay attention to expiration dates. read more

I almost did not go to this great grocery store after reading the reviews, but I'm very glad I did. I had the exact opposite experience of others. Why they were great: 1) They had all the Indian and exotic ingredients I was seek, I mean everyone 2) The older gentleman who helped was extremely nice and very knowledgeable on his product. In fact he was so nice, he through in some peppers (that weren't for sale) for free! 3) The prices were better than stores like Safeway. For example, a huge bag of Coriander (bigger than the small bottles they sell at major grocery stores, was only $2.39. I paid 3x for less. It's located in a convenient strip shopping mall. Bottom line is that I liked this place so much that I am writing my first review. Don't listen to the others, I can't imagine how they could have had a different experience. read more

Both my wife and I have had good shopping experiences here. First, they DO take credit cards (or at least VISA). It is a small store so don't expect COSTCO variety but they do have a nice selection of fresh and frozen indian foods and other items. The women who works there is always very nice. This place is tiny but has quite the assortment of products. It takes a little time to search through the labyrinthine inside but it's worth it. I was looking for different spice mixes and got at least 7 of them for no more than $1.20 each. A great find. read more
