Best cheap eats in Ballston! There are tons of food joints in the area but I was craving Peruvian chicken and rice. The place was crowded for lunch but service was fast. I opted for the lunch combo which had a quarter chicken, a sausage patty and flat iron steak with two sides. I patted myself on the back for making such a great choice. Everything was flavorful but not too salty. The pinto beans were some of the best I've ever had. And they didn't charge me when I asked for extra sauces. I've tried several Peruvian restaurants out here in Arlington/D.C area and this has got to be worst Peruvian food I have ever had. I ordered lomo saltado through door dash ( that part of the service was fine). I for one, asked for the fries on the side because they tend to get too soggy for my liking. The fries were mixed in and to make matters worse they taste old. The dish itself did not taste anywhere near a Lolo saltado. The meat was heavily seasoned and It taste more like carne asada than It did like a traditional Peruvian lomo saltado. In Arlington on a business trip, I had my choice of many fine restaurants at which to dine. After consulting yelp however, I found the best reviews in town by far to be for Super Pollo. I am happy to say my fellow local yelpers did not let me down. I ate like a queen for $7,99. The chicken was as good as everyone said: plump, juicy, tender, nicely spiced. The sides were out if this world. I chose the spinach, which had just a couple if potatoes in it. I also had the chick peas which had just the right amount of heat. Both were not the usual chicken place sides but both were delicious! I would go back for a plate of sides if I could. Actually I wish I could go back on a day when they have cerviche. Finally tried this Arlington staple, heard good things and I wasn't disappointed. The yuca was perfect and made my day! Just the right amount of crispy and yuca still tasted fresh and not too starchy like other ones I've tried. The chicken was also good and flavorful, not greasy or overcooked and I enjoyed it with the yellow sauce, the green sauce was a bit spicy for me but had a good flavor. Steamed vegetables were a bit over cooked, but had a unique combination with carrots and cauliflower and complemented the chicken well. The prices are reasonable for the quantity of food, I would recommend half chicken over the 1/4 chicken since it's a lot more food for just $10. Chicken little?? Nahhh Chicken Biggun! Managed to stop by this place post workout and get a gigantic serving of food. The chicken here is absolutely tender and juicy (served half or full). Something I'm not used to since I always overcook my chicken and it becomes a dry piece of cardboard. The sides were also given generously as they just slapped on some rice and gravy. There's a mini patio to the right outside which is perfect for summertime chillen. Bright red chairs and umbrella, you can't miss it. Inside the food is served in a cafeteria style assembly line, not appealing but super efficient when it is busy. The interior decor is very modern and fits with the vibe they're trying to portray. I thought it would have more of a Spanish-y feel because it has a Spanish word in the title (Pollo = Chicken). But I'm not angry. Beware: if something looks dry, don't get it because it is dry. The shop is conveniently located (kind of) on my way home from work, near I-66 and Rt 50, It has a nice bright and clean interior with tables for eat in. I always find a space to park my car near or right in front of the store. My favorites other than the constantly SUPER tasty chicken, are the green rice, black beans and yucca. Bait and switch pricing! The website shows that the price for a whole chicken and two sides at the Quincy street location is $14.99 (see attached screenshot). This looked like a good deal, so I decided to try Super Pollo for dinner tonight. When I got there I ordered the chicken meal, but instead of charging me the advertised price of $14.99, they ended up charging me $19.99 (see attached picture of receipt). I showed the guy behind the counter the price on the website, but he refused to honor it. At this point I had my girlfriend with me, and we were hungry, so I was forced to keep the meal. But I had gone there relying on, and expecting to receive, the price advertised on their website. For them to advertise one price in order to entice the customer, and then charge another when the customer actually arrives, is false advertising and a bait and switch! read more

Upon walking in the place was relatively clean and there were many places to sit. The bathroom was a bit dirty, the floor was wet and there were no paper towels but there was a hand dryer. Service: it was confusing where to wait on line but some helpful citizens helped us because it was our first time here. Food: we needed to wait 7 minutes for the chicken to come out of the oven. Once the chicken came out of the oven, they cut it and we bought two chickens with mashed potatoes, fried yucca, fries, and white rice. The chicken was piping hot, juicy, moist, and a flavor explosion. We all loved it. I would definitely come here again. Don't be scared to get your hands dirty. I literally wait for this special which I find tends to be on Thursday afternoons. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and moist every time. My favorite sides are chicken fried rice (+$1) spinach, plantains, and chickpeas. If you're watching your carbs you can opt for a side salad with a variety of dressings. Also, please don't forget to try their Melon Agua Fresca! It's on the sweeter side but it's delicious. Perfect accompaniment to they best Peruvian rotisserie chicken. Nice clean and spacious with an outside patio. There are plenty of tables including booths and tabletops . I had wings and my friend had a burger and fries. Our food was cooked to order and brought to our table when it was ready. Everything looked good but I knew I wanted wings with ranch- which by the way is house made. I didn't care for the ranch probably because of whatever spice makes it taste a little different from a traditional or bottled ranch. My wings were piping hot, well done and seasoned well. This is yet another amazing chicken spot in Ballston. There are a variety of items on the menu, but everybody comes for the chicken! The chicken itself is very flavorful, but I think that may be due to the massive amounts of seasoning on the skin. Reading the Yelp reviews are mostly high ratings but some love the sides, some don't. Several folks said huge portions. So tonight I went a tried for first time. Dark meat quarter, black beans and spinach. Most customers were Spanish speakers and Latino, so I thought probably it's legit Latino food, and that is my comfort food. I did notice there was no consistency in portions if it was not going into a foam cup for take out. Guy behind me had an exploding amount of his sides, and passing tables saw variable portions. So my experience was pretty tasty chicken, my quarter was on the small side. I adore spinach, almost a daily eater and really pleased with it, very very good. Black beans, I would them a B grade, good but nothing to tell your abuelita about. My cost with a dollar tip and tax was just over 10 bucks. I love easy parking. My end thoughts were, if I were hungry and wanted Pollo and was passing by, I would stop in. But so far, my trips to Spin Pollo is worth a longer drive because the chicken is more delicious and more generous, and the black beans are better than my abuelita's were. And for a dollar more you get half a chicken and 2 sides. But this is GOOD. BUT Spin Pollo has set a high bar. read more

With great regret I write this review. They cut back on the spices!! Not enough spices on the chicken!! Super Polo used to be my absolute favorite Peruvian chicken spot. I used to go several times a week for years in the 2016 they started to cut back on the spices of their Peruvian chicken. I suspect it was a change of employees and whoever did the chickens back then took great pride and evenly spreading the spice and putting an adequate amount. Spices would make this such an amazing chicken and not only are they cutting down on the spices, what they do put is uneven on the chicken. It's very sloppy in the application of spices. Some areas of the chicken have a little spice and others have none at all. Any case over the years I continued to go from 2016 and sometimes it would be great and other times they wouldn't have enough spice. Overtime it got worse and worse and all to me I talked to the owner to let him know that they had a problem. For 6 months the spices got better and it was almost as good as it was prior to 2016. Around 2019 though it was going downhill to the point that I questioned whether it was worth going anymore. Prices had gone up but that wouldn't have deterred me if the spices hadn't been adequate as that is what hand made the Peruvian chicken so amazing at super Polo. I may give one more effort to tell the owner that they are losing so many customers by cutting back on the spicing of the chicken. I imagine it is a financial issue but you can't change what made it so great. Unfortunately because of the economy they've had to greatly increase prices and so not only are the prices higher the chicken is not as good specifically because there was not enough spicing and the spices are not spread evenly over the chicken and under the skin as I had said previously. So with great regret I leave this review. I hope that maybe the owner will see it and realize the fallacy of cutting back on the spices as they have for many years now. I finally got to the point where I just can no longer waste my money going to super Polo. If this restaurant and the owner goes back to the old way and starts taking pride and spicing their chickens and adding the correct amount of spicing I will change this review and start coming back again as I imagine others will over time. Every once in awhile people give a shot at their old favorites that had gone downhill just to check but to my disappointment super Polo continues to go downhill. Not to be confused with Pollo Rico. Seriously DC area places, please be more original with your names! This is where I had my first meal as an official resident of Nova, and with good reason. The chicken is seasoned to perfection, and the skin nice and crispy. It brings grocery store rotisserie chicken to shame. And as much as I sometimes enjoy Costco's version when I'm out in the burbs, it's a whole other ball game here. The sides are where this place shines above all others. You get two with your order! Want to eat healthy? Go for the spinach! Rice and beans count as one side (would be super evil if rice were one and beans another). Indulgent? Fries and sweet plantains are good options too. Load up on the spicy green sauce and the mayo like yellow and you're good to go! Too lazy to go out? Order it through delivery. I should get around to doing an all-star list of my favorite DC area places by cuisine, and this place for sure gets included. Might take a while because gotta save money (moving is expensive) but I'll get around to it! In the mean time, enjoy Super Pollo! read more

Excellent. The chicken wow- holy guacamole, I highly recommend coming here for the chicken alone!!! So good. Came here at the recommendation of some friends and it did not disappoint! Words will not do justice how delicious the chicken is here...and if that is your choice of protein then this place is a must for you! Really good chicken! I'd never had Peruvian chicken before, so I don't yet have standards. But the chicken from here is flavorful, not too dry, and has very crispy skin. The sauce they give you is also good - it's sourness balances out the hearty chicken flavor. And they give you A LOT! The only reason I took off a star is because none of the sides taste good.
