Yuca (the inside is white, hard, and undercooked)
Boris W.

Honestly, if it wasn't for the hard/white-ish/undercooked yuca, I would have given this place a 5-star. I ordered the half chicken (dark meat) with rice and yuca, through DoorDash. From the minute the order was picked up and delivered to me, the process took 30 minutes. I don't think yuca becomes hardened to the point of being unchewable and ghastly in that short amount of time. The chicken and fire were fire. The sauces, medium spice, were on-point. This place is definitely satisfied me with their chicken and rice! But back to the yuca and the rating drop. The yuca was horrendous. 80-90% of the yuca's inside were hard. I chewed into the yucas and just felt like my soul was leaving my body. Take a look at the photos and you'll see that I did not exaggerate. I will go back for a second try. My next (updated) review will reflect my final view of this establishment.

1/4 White Meat Chicken with Plantains and Rice
David H.

Review for delivery only. There are several Peruvian chicken places in the area and most are mediocre to pretty good. Super Pollo is probably the best I've had of all of them. I had to 1/4 chicken white meat and it was a lots of perfectly spiced chicken that was fully cooked without being dried out. It was so perfect on its own I didn't need to use any sauce. The plantains were just right, sweet without being too sweet and they were hot and fresh without being dried out. The rice was enjoyable as well, hot and fresh with a few vegetables for some extra flavor. They don't skimp on the food here and even though I was hungry after a day of yard work, I still barely finished my meal. Delivery was fast and my food came hot and fresh. This place is at the top of my list for Peruvian chicken.

This chicken is absolutely amazing and so flavorful. The sides are also really good, especially the rice and the plantains. Service is excellent and food comes out fast. The restaurant is super clean with ample seating.

This place is SO GOOD. The yuca fries are perfect and the chicken is super flavorful. Plus it's got a ton of seating so it's a great place to sit with friends.

Whole Chicken. Mmmmmmmm

Amazing Peruvian Chicken within the BALLSTON Arlington neighborhood. Calling all chicken lovers. Lol Delicious moist chicken that's roasted in the restaurant Peruvian rotisserie (charcoal) with a beautiful spice rub and seasoning. Typically get a whole chicken. Scrumptious!! It comes with two types of sauce: green (hot) and yellow mayo-based (medium). The sauces kick it up a notch. Service is real fast, even for the lunch rush. Hot and fresh chicken. Line moves quick. Ambiance includes outdoor and indoor tables. The sides are on point, as well. Spinach. In addition to plantains. Deeelish!! There are a couple of Super Pollos around VA. This one is awesome. Support this Small Business. Pro Tip: free parking in the back (no need for street parking and meters). It's hidden. Haha

Whole Chicken with 2 Sides

I don't know how my fellow omnivores live without access to amazing Peruvian chicken. Super Pollo is reliably good and fast. I usually get a whole chicken with various sides--fried yuca, sweet plantains, black beans, and chickpeas are my favorites. I've tried some other dishes, but the chicken is what I always come back to. And don't forget the alfajores! I love that they sell mini versions, so I can enjoy a little bite-sized cookie treat. Basically, if you like Peruvian chicken, you won't be disappointed here. And the price is good--$40 is enough for a family of four and possibly leftovers. (Or in my case, extra chicken for my dogs.) There is adequate seating inside, but I almost always get my chicken to-go.

Outdoor Patio

Incredibly delicious and consistently fresh Peruvian food and friendly service with a smile. They have plentiful indoor and outdoor patio seating. They also have a TV in the corner for news and telenovelas. Perfect for a quick to go lunch or sit-down dinner with family. Cash or card only (no phone pay).

Super convenient small business that was near my hotel in Arlington. Was a great place to have a final lunch before we all headed home after a conference. The chicken was outstanding and the choices were pretty good. The sides were behind the counter so you stand and pick things through a glass window like a lot of places around these days. Everyone had smiles on their faces as they served you!

1/2 Chicken White Meat with 2 Sides and Lomo Saltado
Wilton P.

Ordered takeout from here last week. I got half of a roast chicken, the lomo saltado, and sides of sweet plantains and tomato salad. My favorite was the roast chicken even though I messed up and ordered only white meat by mistake. The chicken was seasoned really well and was juicy. It came came with really flavorful sauces as well. The lomo saltado was good, but I've had better. The sweet plantains, and the rest of the sides, were really good too. My order was delivered quickly and accurately. I also appreciated the generous portions, so it's a good value for your dollar. I will definitely be ordering from here again soon.

1/2 Chicken White Meat with 2 Sides

Ordered delivery from here. Got a 1/2 chicken with dark/white meat. The portions were definitely very filling, however the chicken didn't tasted seasoned at all. I'm don't like too much salty foods which says a lot in how under-seasoned I thought the food was. For my sides I got rice and yuca. Both tasted good. The yuca was a bit soggy (due to delivery), which I dont blame the restaurant for.

Chicken wings - pretty good, come with your choice of sauce

Though what I really like about the place changed. When I first went all they offered was Chicken, Cole slaw, and fries. In a world of many option I actually thought this sent a message that we are so good we only offer a limited choice that's you will enjoy. Tbf the fries can't compete w McD or Chikfila Waffle fries but they were good. The service counter is modernized and they are efficient and friendly. The layout if the restaurant is still basic like the limited menu they used to have. No frills no gimmicks just good food. Still the same vibe The chicken was still very good. Other places are fairly close but Apollo Rico is just a touch better. The charred seasoning is evident. What tipped the scales for me in comparison to other places I've been is the green sauce. It liked fresh. It wasnt like other places where that has the consistency of ketchup it looked bright green and freshly made vs other places where it seems as if it was poured out a container.

We ordered a half chicken with yuca and beans as the sides. It was very quick, we got our food within seconds it felt like. The chicken was probably the most flavorful kind of Pollo a la Brasa that I have had. It wasn't too greasy either. Just very tasty. The beans were delicious!! I didn't think I would like them as much. The yuca was pretty good too. Nice and crispy. I do wish they had slightly more options for sides, maybe even an Arroz Chaufa. This is a no frills kinda place so don't expect anything too fancy. But it is clean! And that's what makes it more authentic and fun in my opinion! Will definitely go back if I'm in the area.

They have good drink options which was nice for a group which all had different tastes. We started with appetizers, including the chicken empanadas, the tuna tacos, and ceviche sampler. The chicken empanadas were good, if not particularly memorable. But had a nice crunch on the shell and the inside had a nice savory flavor and not dry. The tuna tacos, which didn't have the most appetizing color, was also tasty. The tuna was tender and balanced well with the crispy shell. The ceviche sampler was also delicious, each one having a different flavor profile. I liked the tigre de leche the best in terms of the acidity and brightness. I just wish the ceviche had some kind of vessel to eat it with. One of the ceviche had plantain chips which was nice but I wanted more. Without it, the texture is just one note. For the main dishes, we got the lomo saltado and the aji de gallina which are two, iconic Peruvian dishes. Both were just meh. The aji was the better of the two. The sauce was flavored well with the creaminess of the sauce not overwhelming the garlic and tumeric flavors. But the rice was SUPER dry, almost crunchy. The lomo saltado was even worse. The beef was overly cooked, some pieces were very sinewy and chewy. It was also overly salty and the veggie to meat ratio heavily favored the veggies and made the dish feel cheap. Overall, it was fine but given the options for Peruvian in DC, not sure this deserves 4 stars+.

I waited quite a while and finally had to get up and find a waitress to ask for a menu. I ordered two appetizers and a main along with my double Pisco. Because the kitchen was not busy everything arrived at once. The Tiradito Al Olivo was excellent with the octopus chewy and fresh and the black olive foam tart and sweet reminiscent of a creamy blueberry yogurt. My favorite app though is Papa à la Huancaina. We're writing this in hopes of the service improving because we still love the food and location. Staff is very nice once you get their attention but we've had multiple trips of sitting for over 30 minutes with servers passing by and us attempting to make eye contact or flag a server down to get an order taken. The second to last time during a week day around 6 we went and it took about 30 minutes for us to even be able to put an order in after the server brought us waters then he dropped the food off without utensils or sauces. This past time on a Friday early evening we waited at an outdoor table for about 30-40 minutes and the server would look at us, help the table he was already working with next to us and disappear. We finally went to the kiosk and just put the order in through there for the dine in family meal but they did not give any utensils or plates with the food. We heard the server tell the table next to us they were out of glasses so we figured we would just do bottled water.
