Don't underestimate this little hole in the wall. Came through the drive through today for a quick lunch. Got the single gyro and wife got a Philly no onions/no peppers. Got the order and skipped toppings right. Food was great. Meat was seasoned well and the bread felt soft. Not sure if they make the rolls in house, but they seemed fresh. Fries were perfect crispy outside/soft inside. Salted well. Service was great. Guy came to the window very enthusiastically. Sometimes you just know when someone's cares about what they do. The gyros and mushrooms at Super Gyros can't be beat! The owner is super friendly and will lift your day as well as fill your stomach. I also like looking at the large photographs they have of New York from the early 1900s, especially the black-and-white taken in 1932 of eleven ironworkers eating lunch as their legs dangle from a steel beam 850 feet above the ground in Manhattan, New York City. The gyros was okay nothing to write home about! The meat didn't taste like lamb and beef and the pita fell apart quickly.

I went through the Drive Thru and order a gyro (no onions) with feta cheese and sauce on the side. I mentioned to the worker that I was allergic to onions. I got home and opened up my food, there was onions on the sandwich. I called Super Gyro's and said I don't want a replacement since there would probably be cross contamination but wanted to make the person aware. Her proceeded to cuss me out and told me I was a liar and I just wanted to scam him out of food. Be careful if you have food allergies. This is your mom n pop family tin business with a huge menu sure to please any palate. The gravy or au jus is absolutely incredible- like no other. Hand crafted, no bottled stuff. The beef is piled high on a toasted roll. It does nit get any better than this. I rarely eat all the bread from a sandwich. I had just taken a test at OSF that required a fast. I was starving. I walked outside and there I could see a sign: "Super Gyros". I walked over quickly and saw on their menu board that they had pizza puffs. I ordered and it came up pretty quickly. Then I went outside and ate at their outside dining area. HORRIBLE customer service where the staff tends to CURSE at YOU, the CUSTOMER. I came by here 2 times today to pick up food for DoorDash customers, and both were poor experiences. First time I was there I go to the drive thru window (because the lobby is closed) and said "Hi, I have a DoorDash for CUSTOMER NAME" and the guy looks at me puzzled. So I said again I said, "DoorDash for CUSTOMER NAME" and again another puzzled look so I asked if they did DoorDash orders and then proceeded to show my phone with the order. I guess then he realized what I was there for and then gave me the order. Went back there later in the evening to pick up another DoorDash order. Pull up to the drive thru again. "Hello, I got a DoorDash for CUSTOMER NAME". Again, his face is puzzled. Then he looks to who I could only assume is the owner with his kid back like 10 feet away from the order window and he yells at me "What?" I the day louder since this guy is far away from me, "DoorDash for CUSTOMER NAME". At this point he starts flailing both his arms like I'm talking nonsense and asks what it's for. I repeat the customers name and then he again says what it's for? Again I said "DoorDash for CUSTOMER NAME". They proceed to get the grab the bag with the order and he's cussing at me saying that I didn't give home enough information. WTF am I supposed to say besides where the order is coming from and what the customers name is??? I drive past with my order and I just see the owner flailing his arm at me yelling God knows what through the front of the business windows. Wow, that's all I can say. And he's just doing this like normal as if he does this all the time in front of his kid (assuming it was his kid). I've also had them rude to me a few years ago when I ordered food as a customer which is why I haven't personally ate there ever since. This place just NEEDS to go out of business. There's ABSOLUTELY no reason for the owner of the business or ANY of the staff for that matter, to behave the way they do here at this place. hey, I don't believe I'm the saying that the "Customer is always right" because let's face it, they're not but come on man! There's guys here treat you like shit for buying their food. Nobody needs to deal with that type of shit. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. You can go to: "The Rock" in Uptown Normal or Windy City Wieners (2 locations) in either Uptown Normal or downtown Bloomington if you want to get your Gyro fix. And all 3 locations I mentioned would have hot dogs, burgers, pizza puffs, etc like Super Gyro, EXCEPT the staff there won't yell and cuss at you for being there. Just AVOID Super Gyros like the plague unless if you like to get yelled and cussed at for no apparent reason other than being a customer paying providing business to them. Do not give them your business and hard earned money. There are plenty of restaurants in town either similar to this place or completely different that would truly appreciate you coming to purchase their food, trust me. read more

Visited on April 27, since the 28th is Greek Easter after all!! Truly enjoyed my gyro and breaded mushrooms. Always consistent and always delicious. The gentleman behind the counter is always polite and has a smile and greets us when we come in. Super Gyros is one of the better gyro / Mediterranean food options in the area. I find their gyros, baklava, etc more authentic than other places - like the rock. Their gyro meat like most other places is a combination of lamb and beef - the guy behind the counter thought it was more lamb than beef - which is interesting. Many "gyro" places have 80% beef to 20% lamb in their mixture. read more

Well the food was very good which it always has been, but I took a friend there who hadn't been there before and I didn't plan on a floor show! The two employees working were having one heck of an argument behind the wall! I half expected one of them to get shanked! I was actually embarrassed to have recommended the place! Word of advice to the restaurant: if you expect people to come back, don't air all your dirty laundry where the guests can hear! Fail!!!!! The italian beef and sausage combo is large in size. The roastbeef is tender and the italian sausage is slightly spicy. Had the sandwich dipped in the juice or what they call the gravy. Very yummy! For some extra heat add the giardiniera. The cod sandwich was hot and crisp and comes with pickle and onion. The white fish was very delicate tasting which any seafood lover would enjoy. My wife got injured by the closing door when walking away after get some desert in here and passed out because of terrible pain in her injured foot, and cashier or owner whoever worked there refused to call 911 when I asked him 5 times! He said "I'm not gonna call 911" then he locked up the door, and left the building. He has literally left her alone passed out outside the building! Fortunately we were together and I took care of her and called 911. We made a police report. Terrible place and attitude. Don't go there. Food is good, but prices and portions are horrible. With tax it's almost $14 for a double gyro which comes with a small order of fries and no drink. I'm used to paying $8.99 for a double gyro, large fries, and drink in Chicagoland. There's no excuse for such high prices in midstate Illinois. read more

To be able to find a place where the owners/workers genuinely care about the quality of the food they serve. You will not find more appreciative business owners, who thank you so much for your business and care to make it known. The service of that itself is what keeps me coming back, it's so relieving to finally have found a place that takes pride in what they do. Don't even get me started on the food! Super Gyro has served possibly some of the greatest Chicago Italian Beef I have ever had(even as a Chicago native). Furthermore they have the "Maxwell Street Polish Sausage" now I have to say I have been to many places trying to imitate the amazing taste of a true Maxwell polish. But again! They have not only got my approval, but that of many who have sworn by Chicago only Maxwell polish. Lastly their Gyro is absolutely to die for, without a doubt these people are food gurus, I don't know how they do it! If you honestly miss Chicago food, or are from up north including the suburbs (for those of you who enjoy Portillo's). The best gyros and Italian beef in the area. Staff is always friendly. I steer clear of the other Super Gyros in town by the car place because of horrible service. Driving all the way to Normal for this one on Susan Drive is worth it. I don't go anywhere else for Italian beef and gyros now, especially after bad service at Windy City Weiners and Bloomington's Super Gyros. I had a hankering for a gyro. My first time at Super Gyros. When I first walked in, the owner/gentleman was so nice, greeted me kindly and was obviously comfortable with people. I ordered the single gyro combo that came with fries and a drink for $9.99. I found my place to sit and the metal seat rails were very sticky and the table was also sticky. There was an old basement kind of smell in the restaurant. The ketchup was an off label. Heinz ketchup would be a nice upgrade. The kind gentleman brought me my food and a few other very nice customers came in and all said hello. Very nice people. The food was delicious. I ate the entire gyro but saved a few fries for my dog or she'd give me those sad puppy dog eyes. I loved the refillable drinks. They need to get a degreaser to wipe down the metal seat rails and on the sides of the metal seats where you use your hands to pull yourself under your table. Maybe the same restaurant grade degreaser can be used on the tables as well. I'm not sure what would get the musty smell out of the air. Maybe a fresh coat of paint??? Not sure. Untrustworthy. Over charge. Be careful. We wanted to pick up a pound of their gyro meat on the way home. Nice guys said "Sure, no problem. Its $10 per pound." Wow. When we got home and popped open that big styrofoam box (sorry environment) there sat what was really a HALF pound of meat (we weighed it). Geez, did we feel stupid. We called and complained and were assured that if we came back we would double the meat for the price. Okay, no worries right? The very next day we attempted to get our other half pound of meat we paid for. No way. We were treated like free loaders. Wasnt worth the BS. Will never go back. read more
