Its taken me a long time to finally write this review, i have been here maybe 30 times or so by by now. I moved to pasadena around 6 years ago and this place was on my drive over to pcc. It honestly doesnt look like much from the street, generic name, signage, kind of old and dirty. I drove past many times thinking it was just another mediocre burger place and never though much of it, until one day i finally decided to give it a go. This was around 5 years back and the current owners had taken over right around then.
The current owners are a korean family which really surprised me. Did not expect to see asians owning a place like this in this location. The mom is always very pleasant and always smiling, a nice of a lady as can be. The dad is always on the grill, wearing his hair net and never saying much but giving a quiet look of acknowledgement and a smile. their son whos nane i think is kevin runs their facebook and yelp, instagram and sometimes takes the orders. I have read a few reviews on here over the years commenting on his lack of customer service skills and his abruptness on the phone and i would have to agree. i have talked to him a few times and he seems like a nice guy, but he could be a bit more cheerful and happy while taking the orders. Or maybe it is because his mom is so happy and nice all the time he is paling in comparison. Im sure youll read this, please take this as helpful criticism from a long time customer wanting to see you guys succeed. These three are the gears behind this place and is the reason for the success and following they have achieved throughout the years.
Super burger has without a doubt the best burger in pasadena. In n out, the hat, both tops, islands, lucky boys, etc this place has them all beat. It is your classic burger with no fancy toppings, just a nice thick patty, cheese, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce. Im not sure what makes it so good, but every time i have a burger from one of the places i listed the burger here is always in the back of my mind taunting me, saying you know im better, why are you having a burger anywhere else? For just over 7 dollars you get fries and a drink as well which is hard to beat. The fries here are not fresh but frozen, yet still good. They are the thicker kind where the outside is crunchy and inside potatoe-y, much better than the dry skinny fries at i n out or tops, even if those are freshly made.
Super burger also has a great breakfast burrito which i would recommend trying. It is different from the ones at lucky boys or tops, a bit more compact and the potatoes are in slices instead of hash browned. In thirty or so visits i have actually never tried anything else. I always think of branching out but the burger gets me every time.
A few bits of criticism now which i hope you guys will take into mind. The fries are not always consistent. When they are perfect they are great but sometimes they come out too browned and overcooked, and sometimes are not cooked enough and a bit soggy. When i come during busier times the fries are not as freshly made and i can tell have been sitting there for a little while. Not a huge problem but consistency is a good thing to have.
Also i love you guys, but the onion rings are horrible. I know you guys dont make them but please think of either making your own or switching to a different supplier for them. Im a big fan of onion rings and usually get them in place of fries but i tried them once and never again. I like your burger the best but sometimes go to the habit or the hat because they have the better rings. If you guys can do better youll probably be seeing a lot more of me :p
Finally, please think about opening later! I talked to you guys once about this but am not sure of what you guys are planning of doing. I know its hard since you guys are already there for so long every day but im always craving a burger later at night and sad when i have to settle for somewhere else.
Well thats a long review but one ive been meaning to write for a while. This has become my favorite place to go in pasadena, only thing stopping me from going more often is that its not exactly healthy food. I love the family, the food, and would highly recommend this place to anybody! read more
