That being said, they def lean more into prepared, ready-to-eat and packaged foods of a typical convenience store in Japan, which makes sense for this foot traffic heavy location. They have a pretty decent selection of sushi maki rolls and nigiri, packaged desserts, hot bentos and bowls (pork katsu and gyudon), onigiri and chilled drinks. The produce they carry comes smaller bunches and packaged in plastic, they don't carry fresh meat or dairy though there are some of these items in the frozen section. Snacks, ramen, dry foods and condiments they have plenty of, as well as a small selection of bath/beauty and cute stickers and socks in the back. On this hot and humid day, I stopped in for a drink--grabbed a chilled oolong tea--and will be back to pick up some sushi rolls at some point I'm sure! The original chocolate Pocky is very easily to be quickly sold out at most Asian grocery stores, but not Tong Ren Grocery. Price is average for one large $4.50 per package. The associate was somewhat attentive as he quickly sprung to his feet at the register from bending his head and face glued to his smartphone. There are various Ginseng available. Business cards are available for grabs which is thermography printing on one side and digital printing on the other.

But the long-time staff are far nicer than at all the big supermarkets, products are generally much less expensive, and I'm convinced there is some sort of portal to a different dimension in this store because Grand Century Market manages to carry just about every dry good under the sun and more, despite its small footprint. A few offerings that jumped out at me on a recent visit: sugar free pineapple cakes; sugar free, vegan oyster sauce; honeysuckle tea; frozen rice cakes for savory stirfries in both the cylindrical cut and oval cut; enormous pomelos for a pittance; salted duck eggs; whole tapioca; sesame seed, walnut, and peanut powders; and all the varieties of silken and pressed, baked tofus that make my heart go pitter patter. There's also a good variety of frozen dumplings and dim sum standards in the freezer section, fresh produce towards the front, and lots of toys and candies, which I'm sure are quite a draw for students from nearby schools. (But by far the most interesting thing that jumped out at me: the adorable house tabby patrolling the joint! :) There's no embedded fishmonger or butcher in this market as there are at HK and NY Supermarkets. Calling ahead doesn't guarantee any items as they don't put a hold on anything, it's first come first serve. I already feel bad for most of the English-only speakers, since only the people in the front can speak it but not without some limitation. One redeeming quality of this place is the fact it's relatively close to the B/D subway. That makes this place a good place for a quick shop and go instead of grocery hopping for price comparisons.

There is a selection for Chinese imported beer of renown names as Tsingtao, Pabst, Heineken, etc. Fairtown Trading Inc. is a specialty ethnic market serving the New York Chinese community where it enables me to reminsce my country of birth. N.B. Fairtown Trading Inc. management are incompetent in the written English language as Grand Street is visibly noted as "GRANG" Street. The lack of attention to detail is embarassingly pathetic.

They have a very good selection of most typical Asian groceries, without the crowds and even better prices. The service is what has constantly kept me coming back. True, Fairtown is not as large or as extensive as some of the mega super markets, but the people working there will always do their best to help you find something, be it a rare food item or out of stock medicine. They also have a mean selection of various Chinese stlye noodles. This is where I go to get my Yee Fu noodle fix, where a block that is good enough to feed 2 people, and costs only $1.99. I've been able to find lots of random items for cheaper than most of the nearby grocery stores which is enough to get people coming back often.
