Genkiya Mart sells all types of Japanese food. They have ready made foods for take out. We got our first snack of the day. We chose the shrimp shui mai. It was several fat dumplings filled with small shrimp. Very good choice!
Heard good things about Genkiya. I went a bit too early as I wanted some onigiri but not available until 10AM. There is a wide range of snacks, ramen, udon, cute merch, drinks. Staff is nice with a smile. Will make another trip to catch the onigiri. Items such as sushi, bento and onigiri are 50% off after 8PM.
Whenever I need a snack or pick me up, I stop by here. It's located by the 6 station too. I always get sushi and eat at one of the two tables they have by the front.
Every single night at 8pm, people line up to get sushi, bentos, onigiri, and more at 50% off from Genkiya Mart, a Japanese grocery store in SoHo. Come a bit earlier to choose what items you want for dinner (or lunch the next day) and wait until 8pm to check out. There's going to be a long checkout line, but it moves fast! The staff are friendly, the mart is well organized, and there are two clean tables inside that you can eat at. The avocado they use in their food items is so creamy and soft. This may be one of the best sushi deals in NYC and is a solid option for a quick grab-and-go meal in Manhattan. What we got: (2) sushi boxes: eel avocado & spicy tuna with salmon avocado (1) rice dish: chicken karaage don (2) onigiris: Shrimp tempura & lobster onigiri Total: $22.50 after 8pm
L was watching a Mike Chen video and he really liked this place. I don't agree with most places he recommends so we wanted to check this place out since we were going to be in the area. It's seems like a clean market... a lot of the products are really highly processed and the fresher items like veggies.. are really pricey..I can get them delivered to my house for less than half the price. A lot of young people appeared out of nowhere. Once it hits 8pm, the sushi, bentos, and onigiris are 50%. Line went quickly so at least we didn't have to wait long. Most of the customers are college students but some of them can clearly afford better food than supermarket sushi... I can't recommend the sushi.. It tasted like old supermarket quality sushi cuz we did buy it around 8pm. I don't know what I was thinking. It had good reviews. It's not worth the 50% off. So bad.. I would never get sushi from a market again. We couldn't finish the food and threw away half of everything. I tried a few bites of the rice ball, few bites of the toro sushi box and a few sushi rolls. The rice was still so cold and a lil hard even after the commute home. The sashimi fish boxes are not worth it. It's just a lil fish with a ton of hard rice that doesn't taste good. And I love rice. The rice balls did have more protein than more popular places I've been to, but Genkiya's was pretty bland. One of the 2 drinks L bought was also pretty horrible.. I won't be back. Still very clean and the staff were nice.
I was drawn by the 50% off sushi, bento, and onigiri after 8pm so I decided to get some myself. I got the eel, tuna avocado + spicy tuna, and a spicy crab ongiri, all of which totaled a bit more than $12 after discount and taxes. It is an amazing deal as it is a lot of food, but the sushi was so mid and not the freshest. I would've written it off for the amazing value but I just can't, since the salmon was quite fishy and the eel was slimy and fishy. It's as if the sushi came from a grocery store (I guess it technically is, but you get what I mean). People shop before 8pm then wait in line until 8pm to start checkout, so I recommend going early for the ample selection or just skip the lines by taking chances on what's remaining thereafter.
Nice & neat Japanese market with a good selection of Japanese & Asian groceries (snacks, some fresh produce, sauces, noodles etc.). Prices seemed reasonable / at market rate. Everything was well organized and clean. I think the biggest draw might be the 50% off prepared items after 8pm (sushi, bento boxes, onigiri). I happened to go there around 7.50pm by chance, wondering why a whole bunch of people had food in their hands and were lingering around the store. The moment it hit 8pm, they all started lining up to pay. I took advantage of that and indeed got a great deal on avocado maki rolls and seaweed salad onigiri- this came out to ~$6 with the 50% for both items! I think the onigiri was $3 and avo sushi was $9, before discount. The avocado sushi was so good!! LOTS of avocado and a very thin layer of well seasoned rice- just the way I like my maki rolls. Overall- nice grocery store. If you are in the area around 8pm, you will get a great deal!
I stumbled upon this Japanese supermarket one night in Soho. They have a 50% off sushi, bentos, onigiri after 8 pm each night. When I went in at 7:45 pm, people start gathering their items and at 8 pm on the dot, they start lining up to pay. So if you want to get the deal, go there early. Will definitely stop by another to buy their other items before 8 pm.
Can't go wrong with 50% off their sushi / hot foods selections after 8pm!! It makes the food SOO worth it! I do recommend getting there a bit before 8pm to scope out and pick the options you want before most people come and grab the good stuff. LOVE getting the onigiris and sushi boxes. Their sushi boxes come in either one or two types of rolls / sashimi. They also have a breadth of hot foods, ranging from miso soup, to takoyakis, to rice bowls. Overall, can't complain for their sale price!!
Great selection of hot food- after 8pm there is 50% off all onigiri, noodles, soups, salads and sushi. Great bargain. The staff are super friendly and the vibe is chill and you can eat at a table inside or outside.
Thought I should give them another chance from last time which was seven months ago back in October 2023. Of course, they still have the awesome 50% off deals on all bentos, rice bowls, sushis, and onigiris after 8pm daily. As soon as I'd walked in, so happy to see that they've finally put in a microwave for customers to warm/heat up their food like rice bowls and miso soups. Not only that, but also the food would look fresher than before especially the rice bowls. People should've the option of being able to eat warm food right after making a purchase in my opinion. I'm just really glad that they've finally decided to add in that feature which will not only benefit everyone in the future but also the staff and us customers. Ambiance wise is like your typical deli/grocery store but a whole lot cleaner and brighter.
This is a hidden gem located in the Soho neighborhood. 50% off sushi, bentos, onigiri, and sandwiches daily after 8 pm. The pork katsu curry is delicious and has separate compartments for the curry and katsu. The spam musubi and the Japanese egg sandwich are as good as well. Service is friendly and quick. The supermarket itself is very clean and neatly organized.
Genkiya Mart is a Japanese convenience store/grocery located in SoHo, I'm glad it's around considering the closures of a few other Japanese markets in Flatiron and East Village in the past several years. That being said, they def lean more into prepared, ready-to-eat and packaged foods of a typical convenience store in Japan, which makes sense for this foot traffic heavy location. They have a pretty decent selection of sushi maki rolls and nigiri, packaged desserts, hot bentos and bowls (pork katsu and gyudon), onigiri and chilled drinks. The produce they carry comes smaller bunches and packaged in plastic, they don't carry fresh meat or dairy though there are some of these items in the frozen section. Snacks, ramen, dry foods and condiments they have plenty of, as well as a small selection of bath/beauty and cute stickers and socks in the back. On this hot and humid day, I stopped in for a drink--grabbed a chilled oolong tea--and will be back to pick up some sushi rolls at some point I'm sure! Staff interaction was brief though friendly at the checkout counter. read more
Went for the 50% off deal after 8 PM and was honestly impressed by how much was still available. There was a pretty big selection to choose from, and I expected some of the food to feel like it had been sitting around, but everything I picked up was still fresh and tasty. The discount makes it a really good value, especially if you're willing to go later in the evening and see what's left. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking to grab some Japanese food or groceries without spending a ton. The market is on the smaller side but had everything you'd expect. There wasn't AC, though, and it was a bit warm inside. There isn't a place to eat, so you need to take it to go. The staff was friendly and helpful. read more

50 percent off sushi bento onigiri daily after 8pm! What a steal! Recently pass by this Japanese market and saw the sign and went right in to see the deals. Great selections of sushi even after 8pm. I got myself salmon sushi unagi bowl and 3 onigiri and total came out to $20 ! It was nice and clean inside the market, a variety of snacks and drinks, hot and cold food plus frozen food. Definitely will check it out again. Check out was fast and quick even with the abundance about of people coming in at 8pm for their deals. read more

I normally don't get sushi from a supermarket but I must say Genkiya has some tasty sushi for the price. I definitely will come back to get other sushi and bento boxes. I will also definitely come back to see what other groceries there are in the store. The service was pretty quick and efficient. read more
The social media got to me so I had to check this place out. Walked in around 8:10 and was still able to snag some of the more coveted 50% off sushi. As pictured, the salmon sashimi was def my fav of the bunch and would def go again. read more

So happy that a Japanese mart opened up in this area! Genikya is well stocked with Asian spices and basic groceries, drinks, snacks, and pre-made bento boxes/sushi. Tried their curry bento lunch special as well as their onigiri and Salmon/Tuba poke bowls, both of which were delicious and super fresh. I understand that past 8 pm these items are also discounted, which is nice. Staff was friendly, and the store was extremely clean and well organized. read more
Hot Food and Sushi are 50% off after 8pm, which is a really good deal. I was passing by that night and bought a Salmon&Tuna Sushi Bento box, and an Eel Avocado Roll. But I eat them on another day, the bento box isn't that fresh anymore, the rice is little hard while the Eel Avocado Roll still taste good. I love the Eel Avocado Roll better Definitely will come back next time and try other hot food. read more

I stumbled upon this place while strolling through the city, and I was really impressed by their selection and variety of meals. As I walked in, I noticed they were actively restocking the sushi, which looked fresh and inviting. They also offered a wide range of onigiri and meal boxes at reasonable prices. In addition to the food, they had a great selection of imported goods like chips and sauces, many of which I'd never seen before, all priced fairly. read more

I was super happy with the mart but after bought the food and brought home, my husband had diarrhea! I have no idea how long for the fish to put in their refrigerator but after my husband had that sushi, he went to toilet all night. In another hand, I didn't have the same dish as him but I also super strong with dirty bacteria, so I hardly get diarrhea unless it ridiculous dirty. I was fine. so for myself I like that they have lot of Japanese stuff I like but with some people who didn't explore to germ that much, their might have a trouble here. read more
small Japanese mart in SoHo selling Japanese snacks, candies, and drinks as well prepared food like different bentos, rice bowls, onigiris, and sushi. there are also Japanese grocery and frozen items here as well. the space is really clean and brightly lit. stopped in here and wanted a small snack--grabbed some pizza-flavored pretzel stick which hit the spot. staff are friendly and fast. there are meal deals on food after 8 pm on the bentos, onigiris, etc. read more
