It's been quite a while since my last review hehehe, and Kam Man has gone through some changes with regards to the space upstairs. It also looks like they no longer have the restaurant toward the back on the left hand side. But, they still have downstairs - one of my happy places...a place I like to wander among the housewares and teas. If only I had more kitchen cupboard space... If you love tea, come check it out! The siu mei window at Kam Man is a pretty lowkey spot that caters mostly to locals, despite the hordes of tourists that pass by it on Canal each day. The prices are cheaper than anywhere else I've found in Chinatown thus far, and the flavor and quality is generally pretty good. There are also some uncommon offerings here like pork intestine for the true gourmands. Conveniently located inside the market, so you can pick up some groceries along with lunch and pay all together. read more

When I've stopped by New Kam Man, it's mostly to check out the wide-ranging housewares downstairs - especially kitchenware. You'll also find adjacent tea and other dried assortment to check out. Worth a visit, if that's something you're in the market for. While shopping for a small metal dish this time, however, looked at the condiments at the street level. While Hong Kong Supermarket on Hester nearby has the largest selection, discovered that New Kam Man does offer some quite competitive prices. Also noted the roast meat booth up front. Definitely will have to explore this store a little more and recommend you do too! read more

Another spot with a good variety of food products in Chinatown. I had been looking for these seaweed packets that I used to really love eating as a kid but nowadays is super hard to find in Chinese supermarkets (the only other place I've found these seaweed packets were at Mitsuwa). The main floor they sell food products as well as a small area for roasted meats and lunch boxes while downstairs they had an assortment of everything a Chinese kitchen would need as well as merch like plushies and other random knickknacks. Plus there is an eat in counter. A large roasted meat section which you can see in the window. They should wash the window though. We were downtown, hitting all the spots we used to when we still lived in the City. They've really fixed the place up in about the past 40 some years. That staircase to the basement seems to get steeper every year ;) The main floor carries a wide variety of boxed, canned, and refrigerated items. That you won't find in most supermarkets. The lower level, has a lot of housewares and the knife selection has chef quality knives, with prices that are better than Henkels in the outlet store. It seems it's a little touristy now. Some reviews say that the cashiers are kind of brusque. They've always seem to have been that way. I don't take any offense to it. read more

They have cookie tins, and Japanese/Chinese food products on 1st fl. They also carry a lot of natural/organic products aren't so expensive. ($1 cheaper thank most of places) *I added additional photos. If you're going to shop around 4pm the line is going to be very long and only one cashier is opened! There're a hello kitty/ character goods in the basement but it's not an authentic. If you're a biggest fan of the Japanese products, you'll fond out most of them. I highly recommend to buy here. It's very relaxed mood here non judgmental, I know it's not newer than other Japanese store but reasonable and not crowded. You also find products you won't see at the Japanese supermarket. I love this market for their tea selection on the lower level. They have reasonably priced tea pots and so many varieties of Chinese teas as well as green tea and Thai tea mixes. Really fun if you are a tea lover. The upper level also has a good variety of dried goods and snack. read more

This supermarket is located near the canal street station in chinatown. It has a good assortment of affordable Japanese snacks and also dry asian goods. They also have kitchenware, utensils, and loose tea sold downstairs. Aside from that, they also sell some cooked roasted meats and asian dishes near the front! The giftshop upstairs appears to be closed. Back then, they used to sell a lot of cute japanese beauty and stationary items upstairs. It was such a bummer when I went and realized it was no longer opened. Most of the remaining beauty/stationary items are now moved to the basement but the selection is not the best. It seems more like they're trying to sell off the last bits of their inventory. The only reason why I gave them a lower rating is due to their customer service. The cashiers at this supermarket are not the friendliest especially when you ask them a question. They also rush you to bag your items at checkout. read more

From the ground floor, New Kam Man might look like a typical Chinatown grocer. With its roasted-meat window and eat-in counter, its aisles and refrigerated cases of new-to-you pantry staples, it kind of is. The one glaring difference is that it doesn't carry fresh produce. New Kam Man is apparently also a chain (kamman.com) with two locations in NJ and another in MA, but no coherent brand identity. What sets it apart are the other floors. Upstairs you'll find Asian beauty products. Downstairs you'll find kitchenware galore, with many models of kettles and rice cookers, and so many shelves of porcelain and ceramic dishes. These looked less well stocked than they seem to have been in the past, but they were appealingly laid out, and a man was dusting them to keep them that way. The bowls and spoons I bought could be found for less elsewhere -- probably nearby -- but they were already a bargain, and it was actually a pleasure to look for them. Normally I appreciate the way some Chinese mom-and-pop shops are stuffed with stuff, not unlike the home of a Dickensian hoarder, but as COVID restrictions are being lifted, the more spacious environs of New Kam Man's lower floor were more than welcome. That said, it ain't H Mart. The cashier was brusque and peremptory, but hey, I was in Chinatown. I expected nothing different. read more

This is one of the most noticeable grocery shops in Chinatown. This is the first time I ever entered here. My family usually goes to the Po Wing Hong grocery shop. There is a staircase leading upstairs. At the side of the shop is a food shop. Seeing that the prices are comparable to Po Wing Hong, I ordered some Nissin Demae cup noodles. There was only one person doing checkout. As many of the residents in Chinatown are elders, checking out can be a hassle. read more

The main floor has groceries and the lower level has more house goodies. The goodies are affordably priced for some items. They do have sales sometimes throughout the store. read more

I had a chance to visit for the first time this weekend and am already excited for my next trip there. I personally hate grocery shopping in Chinatown just because it is so chaotic (why are the lines almost always so long?), so it was nice to find this spot that I can come to when I'm not looking for fresh produce. The prices are reasonable and the selection is extensive. Things also look clean and organized. I actually didn't notice the bbq section in the corner when I first walked in so was very curious as to why I was smelling the delicious scent of bbq but while waiting to be checked out, I finally saw it. They have food such as maltose, pork floss, hawthorn candy, hotpot bases, dried goods, wheat starch, banh bot bao flour, lotus root powder and more! All this food I am not able to find at my local H-mart. There is also many choices of tea here! The basement closed early so I didn't see much but there was a good choice of houseware and tea. Not sure what happened since my family and I been coming here since I could remember for Asian groceries. The deals, variety of their snacks, and furikake keep us coming back. Love the basement. Almost everything in my parents' kitchen is from there. But the cashiers lately have been extremely rude. I'm not sure if it's the pandemic or every time I've stopped by has been a bad day for them, but I was quite heart broken as a long time customer. It makes me hesitant to stay a returning customer. We came pretty early in the day, so we were among the first to wander around the aisles. I spent 20 years on the West Coast, in Seattle and near San Francisco, both of which have significant Asian populations, so I had a pretty good idea of what things would cost. Still, there was a little bit of a sticker shock, and all I walked out with was an extra long spoon specifically made for stirring iced tea. Upstairs they have a separate section if you love journaling, pens and stationary. It was a pretty small selection and may only appeal to 8 year olds. Downstairs was a mix of dinnerware, pots and pans and kitchen gear. Rice cookers? Go at it. Staff work very hard to look like they hate you and they hate working there. I like to stock up on - lychee jello cups, black sesame /peanut candy, spicy cuttlefish, bean curd noodle, laksa curry noodle, soy bean drink, frozen fish balls, frozen scallion pancake, fish / pork floss, canned bamboo shoots, canned baby corn, canned lychees. They have prepared foods / takeaway section - I like the drunken chicken, marinated pork/ edamame salad, glutinous rice in bamboo leaves. Basement - browse huge selection of dinnerware - rice bowls, tea cups, chopsticks - and other homeware and cooking equipment. Pretty much barked at me when I tried to ask questions. Went over to check out their prepared food section. I like this Chinese grocery store. It's got everything I'm looking for at an affordable price. I love their tea sets, teas, snacks, candies, and other kitchenware stuff. There are three floors here. After you enter the main floor you will see all their grocery items, the top floor has hello kitty/gift type things, and the bottom floor has all sorts of kitchenware. Employees here are friendly enough. They ring you up and wrap up your goodies quickly. No, there may not be a whole lot of service with a smile here. It is what it is. I only come here because I love the Kam Man located in Edison. The one in Edison make this one look like a convenience store. But the Chinatown location still has more Taiwanese products like the soft walnut date candy and salted duck egg than the other supermarkets nearby. They have a really nice selection of Japanese bowls actually made in Japan downstairs. The bowls are so sturdy. They also have a small section of noodles downstairs. They don't have any fresh vegetables and meat, so I usually come for their dry or refrigerated goods. Things I buy the most here: Tomato pretz, Taiwanese walnut date candy, Tom Yum seaweed, egg tofu, salted duck egg, shiitake mushrooms, sauces, powders for steaming and baking (they don't have Indica powder unfortunately), and Chinese sausage. Recently I got into buying there prepared meats. I love getting their braised pig intestines and beef tendon. I also got their duck once which is $11 for a whole duck. It's slightly cheaper than Big Wong which sells it for $11.50, but Big Wong does taste better and less oily. read more

I don't really come here for snacks or stuff like that because I find that their prices can be a bit higher than other places. Even though its not a lot higher, a penny saved is still a penny earned. I do like that they hava a large variety of stuff, but I don't like that it can get kinda cramped at times. I think its better off with shopping at other places if u want goodies. What I do like about this place is that they created a beauty section upstairs. I really LOVE the variety there and how I don't feel like I am in those regular chinese beauty stores where they lady kinda watches you and constantly asks what you are looking for (when i just want to look around). The only issue is that their prices can also be a bit high, but they do have sales which is the good thing. If you look out for sales, then u may get it for the same prices as what beauty stores sell them for. At times they also have a sale where the items are 15% off if its on the non-sale section. They always have a section where selected items are discounted which is set on these tables. I like the range of Japanese brands they offer. I've passed by numerous times and thought it was a pharmacy store until a fellow classmate opened my mind which a new light shined through. New Kam Man has been New York's Chinatown long established leader owned by the original America's original Chinese immigrants--Toisan and is the Asian counterpart to Tiffany's in quality as well as price. There are three floors of Chinese grocery; Asian pottery; tea pots; cast iron tea pots; woks; rice cookers; hand held fans; decorative fans; chopsticks; chopstick box storage; traditional Chinese patterns of china; Japanese style lunch boxes; cosmetics; loose tea; package teas; herbs; herbal medications; and Chinese herbal medicine ointments. The upper level has been renovated to house an extensive Hello Kitty stationery; trinkets; sauce holders; sake bottles and cups; bags; blankets; lunch boxes; jewelry; wallets, etc. This upper level also houses Japanese cosmetics and skincare. New Kam Man's products are very well made of longevity quality thus comes with high prices. Someone stated to me (which I greatly agree and would dare not shop there again) that New Kam Man is the Chinese counterpart to the American Tiffany's with upscale, ultra high-end quality and high price. I visited this grocery store on a weekend to stock some Asian groceries. It has a decent selection of foods (although I felt like it was lacking in the fresh vegetables that I wanted). The main floor has lots of frozen foods and pastries. I found some sliced pork, dumplings, and fishballs here. This was a great supermarket I stumbled into saving me the crosstown trek to get some savory Asian food stuffs. This little place has three levels, everything you can think of and great prices! I have scoured supermarkets for wonton soup base and look and behold they had it for less than $2 for 5 packets! Downstairs there is a vast selections of teas, teapots, teacups, and cookware. By teas, i mean regular bags/loose teas not be confused with milk tea packets with cream and sugar in them.... those are upstairs with their own aisle. There is a lunch counter of some sort with smiley customers who chat, eat and nod. Most people briskly move about the space, but the employees will help you if you ask a question. I love Chinatown for it's restaurants and supermarkets. I really like walking through and discovering new things. Quite a few years ago I came here on a whim and found the "department store" of my dreams. Dinnerware, cutlery, knives, you name it.The highlight of my visit was finding the dinnerware of my dreams. Blue dishes with a cherry blossom motif. I got a sake set, Teapot, Sushi set and some dishes. When I went on line I discovered I had saved a bundle of money. My friend went to this store to buy some bottled water and received a burnt coin as change. She kindly asked the cashier (photo attached) to replace that burnt coin and that cashier gave her an attitude and hurled the bottled water she bought towards the side.
