Curry Chicken
Lai Wun C.

Sun Splash is my favorite food truck that lightens up my weekday! The guys are friendly and the food are delicious. Their lunch special from their food truck are between $12-14(comes with a canned drink) before tax but the portions are fair. So far I've tried the Curry Chicken, Jerk Chicken, Oxtail and Beef Patty. Never had I ever had a bad meal from them. The portion is generous and I always have leftovers for dinner or the next day. Their dishes are flavorful and have a kick to them, and the meat just falls off of the bones! The cabbage are a little overcooked but it was very buttery.

I told y'all this place don't miss. Who wants to cook on a Friday anyways . Oxtails, Macaroni n cheese, Cabbage Come on through

Mac & Cheese and Cabbage

Of the few Caribbean restaurants in Hampton, the food here tastes the best and the portions/prices are the most reasonable. I called in an order for a small oxtail plate (added jerk chicken for an additional 3.00). The plates automatically come with cabbage, and rice and peas (beans). No substitutions (I wanted to switch my rice and peas for mac and cheese). I ended up ordering my Mac separately for an additional charge. I got home and dug in, and the meats were cooked to perfection! The oxtail was the most tender I've ever had. Everything was delicious. The mac and cheese was baked, still moist, and had tons of cheese; however, it needed a smidge more salt.

A local black-owned Caribbean restaurant with healthy, reasonably-priced portions. The food as Sunsplash was excellent. The service was awesome as well!

Rip off! I ordered a large goat meat platter and ended up receiving cabbage as the main item with…read moregoat meat on the side. My order was supposed to come with mac and cheese, potato salad, and rice, but they substituted the rice with cabbage without telling me. When I asked for potato salad, I was told they were out, but no one explained the substitution or asked what I wanted instead. There was also no rice under the meat or cabbage, which is normally part of the dish. The whole plate was a disappointment, and at this point I probably won't recommend anyone else eat here. We drove 30-45 minutes from home to pick up the order because it was supposed to be cheaper in person, but instead of the usual ~$24.99 I was charged $30 with no explanation. The goat meat platter has always been my go-to comfort meal from this place, especially after long days at work. With inflation and the government shutdown, I haven't been able to treat myself in a while--and today, when I finally had the chance, the experience was completely ruined. My sunshine at the end of the tunnel was covered in rain clouds. Have a blessed day.

How do they stay in business. I waited about 45 mins for 2 eggrolls and they were terrible. I got the soul food and a jackfruit eggroll. The "soul food" had mac and cheese, collard greens and yams. The noodles were mushy and tasteless in the mac and cheese. The yams were dark brown because of too much nutmeg or allspice. They were awful. The collards were mid. The jackfruits tasted old and look re-warmed. Please do better. This is not a good representation of vegan food. It was so disappointing. The two young guys at the register didn't seem to have a clue about anything. Every question I had, they had to run in the back and ask someone. They were more interested in singing to the music that was playing then customer service. I was sick about 30 mins after trying these. beware!

Pre-pandemic, this was a place where we would have dine-in visits with friends of ours from a social group or just the two of us. It was probably close to a year since we last appeared so it was time to stop by. Similiar to the past visits, I called in our orders. They greeted me promptly when I walked in where there was only one table occupied. Quick and easy. For our orders, which both served as dinner and lunch for work at our respective sites, we chose their Cubano sandwich with our usual sides (fries for myself and plantains for Sophia). As always, the sandwich was pretty good packed with ham and roasted pork, pickles, cheese and mustard (both had no mayo). I would've liked for more fries in the box, but I had enough for both servings. La Pena Horeb came through once again. You know I'll be ordering takeout from here down the road. Till next time :)

I put specifics and they actually read them and it was correct. I always get the mofongos, tostones, rice and beans, pernil...but I was sad I didn't see the flan! I hope they decide to add it. I am obsessed! This place is hands down better than any other restaurant on the peninsula and south side.

Everything and everywhere in the world from fast food joints to fine dining. Unfortunately the biggest reason many don't stay in business or have a lot of return customers is the food quality does not stay the same. Ok today after church because I enjoyed Palms Jamaican food last Sunday, I stopped in again today. I ordered the Curried Goat dinner, and 2 beef patties, rice and beans and potato salad for sides. (got my chicken wings from the Chinese place next door) sorry they are bigger and cheaper! Curry goat taste like beef chips with thick whitish looking gravy. Not that rich dark gravy West Indian food usually has. Potato salad last week was great, this week potatoes were hard and undone, it had green peas in it. What? Do they use cream of coconut in the rice and peas cause I didn't taste it. What was the worst was the beef patties. The outside was crunchy and the inside was dried up mush instead of ground beef. There is no way on God's green earth they could have been made on the same day. Yesterday at best. Hmm, another one bites the dust. Guess I'm done with thinking I could have island food in Hampton Va.

I ordered the Jerk Chicken (flavorful, but completely dry), Rice and Peas (blah at best), cabbage (phenomenal) and plantains (dry). I was not impressed at all. The prices were decent for the portion size, but who cares if the food isn't good? I will not be returning.
