The food was AMAZING! I was craving for some tacos with great flavor and Carib Shack exceeded my expectation!! The Jerk Chicken was stewed with added flavor and gravy that made the taco savory with peppers, onions and of course the coleslaw! Service was amazing cashier was super insightful and was able to persuade me from the bowl to the tacos! Best decision ever! The restaurant was lively with assorted colors and gave you the caribbean vibe. read more

This is my 3'rd or 4'th trip to the Carib Shack. Can't believe this is the first review. Tried Mama's Stew Chicken Bowl. WOWZERS!!! The Carib Shack never disappoints. The chicken was flavorful and tender. The gravy was so good, and the rice bowl comes with beans as well. So delicious.... Would also like to add that the young lady behind the counter is always so sweet and answers all of your questions. Will definitely be back. read more

Carib Shack really impressed me. I ordered a couple of the daal puree/roti to go, and my order was ready right within the promised time frame. When I got home, I heated it up in the microwave for under a minute and it was perfectly soft and fresh. The daal (split peas) filling was plentiful, flavorful, and so satisfying. I honestly wasn't expecting it to be that good, but it exceeded my expectations. It tasted homemade, and i enjoyed it with some curry and mango chutney. read more

This place is amazing!! We came across it on yelp and saw the amazing reviews. We ordered the jerk shrimp bowl, jerk chicken bowl and the cauliflower jerk bites. WOW!! So much flavor and so tasty. It's a cute little hole in the wall shop when you walk in, and the staff is so friendly. Highly recommend! read more

I ordered online, and by the time I arrived, my food was ready and still hot -- a great start! The woman who greeted me was kind and even offered to open my pineapple Jarritos, which was a nice touch because I didn't have an opener. If you enjoy spice, the heat level was spot on -- flavorful without being overwhelming. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the cabbage and carrots (they didn't have much flavor to me), but everything else was delicious. If you want to tone down the spice the avocado crema is a nice addition. The space inside is small since it's takeout-only, but the service and food more than make up for it. read more

Oh my goodness!!!! So glad we found this place. Food was absolutely amazing and very generous portions. I had the cuban sandwich and plantains. The cuban sandwich was huge and so delicious and the plantains were carmalized, tender and delicious. We sat outside ( no indoor seating) and the others at my table had a "stacker burger" with mac and cheese and the other person had a burger and fried okra. Both said the food was delicious and we all agreed we will definitely be back. Vinnie and Stephanie are the owners and we're so friendly and helpful. If you're looking for amazing take-out food, then you should try this place. Guy Fieri even came here for one of his episodes and loved it. I highly recommend trying Carib Shack, you will not be disappointed read more

Yum!! I've never tried Caribbean food before and my husband provided a list of food options in VA Beach and this was one of his top 10 to try. Pro: the Caribbean Jerk Shrimp and Cauliflower were good. My husband thought Spicy Pork Bowl was really good. The kids had burgers and liked it a lot. It was nice to see Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives made an appearance here and liked the food also! Con: wished they had a sit down area to eat. Also a bit pricey, but wanted to try this and glad I did. The wait time was long, so be prepared to order ahead of time. Would I come back, maybe.. but a def a spot to try as a tourist. read more

Plenty of vegetarian options! The cauliflower was great with the subtle coconut rice. The green curry with chicken was delicious and definitely the crowd fave. Found this place on yelp and it did NOT disappoint. The food is a takeout location that specializes in Caribbean/Jamaican food. I got a takeout order of a jerk chicken sandwich coco calypso (11.49$), a jerk chicken bowl ($12.98), and a side of plantains (4$). The jerk chicken sandwich coco calypso was amazing. The coco bread, jerk chicken, and cheese were all on point. It was so good that I had to come again the next day and get another one. The jerk chicken bowl with rice & peas was very good but the portions you get are way less than expect for the price you pay, should be cheaper if anything. The plantains were good and they give you around 10+ plantains per 4$ side order which is pretty good. All in all, this place was great and the food is amazing. I would definitely recommend to all and be returning here whenever I'm in Virginia Beach. read more

As aficionados of ethnic and spicy foods, my daughter and I were looking forward to visiting this restaurant. Plus, my daughter had visited the US Virgin Islands a number of years ago, and enjoyed the food while there. Location. (4/5). The restaurant is tucked into a strip mall on West Great Neck Road relatively close to the intersection of Shore Drive. There's easy parking or you could cross Shore Dr, walking from the beach. It's location is a bit hidden. Ambiance. (3/5). This is a take-out or delivery only restaurant. You can order ahead of time or on a computer when you enter the restaurant. There is a small sitting area where you can wait for your take-out order. Food (4/5). We ordered, and split, three items. (1) Granny's Curry Chicken Bowl, with Coconut Milk Rice & Beans ($12.95); (2) Shack Jerk Chicken Bowl with same sides) ($12.95), and Sweet Plantain ($3.49). All of the food was tasty with a good blend of spices. The Jerk Chicken had more chili spiciness than the curry; the curry had more chicken in the bowl. According to their website, each entree had 1/2 pound of meat. For our tastes, we would've preferred if the entrees included more vegetables than they did. Service. (4/5). Ordering was easy, and the woman who went back and forth from the small counter to the kitchen in the back confirmed our order and was pleasant. The order arrived in a reasonable amount of time (about 15 minutes without pre-ordering). Value (3/5). Seemed a bit expensive ($32.77 after tax but before tip) given the quantities provided and the fact that this is a take-out only place without the overheads of a sit-down restaurant. Also, there is no restroom for patrons. Finally, kudos for the compostable containers and brown paper bags! read more

Everything in the menu is incredible! Highly recommend the cuban and fried okra out of everything.

Finally got to try out Carib Shack in Virginia Beach, and let me tell you--it did NOT disappoint! This spot has been featured on the Food Network, and even Guy Fieri came through, so I had high expectations. I got to meet one of the owners, Stephanie, and she was SO sweet! I was on a quick 30-minute lunch break and asked her what she recommended. Without hesitation, she suggested the jerk shrimp bowl, and wow--I was definitely impressed. The food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The rice and peas alone? I could eat that by itself! She told me they cook it with coconut milk, and you can really taste that extra richness. The cabbage was flavorful, and the jerk shrimp? Phenomenal. And let's talk about that avocado sauce--I discovered it toward the end of my meal, and I wish I had found it sooner! This is mostly a takeout spot, but they do have a couple of tables outside if you want to sit and eat. I also got to snap a picture in front of Guy's photo, which was a fun touch! I'm already planning my next visit because I need to try their tacos and burgers. If you haven't been yet, definitely check them out--and if you can, catch their Food Network episode! Highly recommend! read more

I was in the area so i hadn't had Carib Shack in a few years. So i went online to place my order. The online ordering is pretty easy to navigate. Pickup was within 20 minutes. When i arrived the owner brought me my order. She was smiling and very nice. I did like her vibe. Its a small restaurant and i don't think they offer dine in right now, only take out. There's a screen up front so you can place your order on your own. There was no one else there so i chatted with the owner then left. I ordered the coco burger, loaded jerk pork fries, jerk shrimp, and rum cake. The coco burger has soft bread which i enjoyed, the burger was ok but definitely needed more seasoning. It just seemed to be missing something, but was still ok. The jerk shrimp was mildly spicy with a yummy garlic aioli sauce. My fav was the loaded jerk pork fries. All the flavors came together and it was filling. I'd get those again. Now in the past i really liked the rum cake, but not so much this visit. It was different. Its ok if you microwave it a couple secs, but i wasn't a fan of the cake room temperature. The plantains were good and a little sweet, they complimented the fries... I was full and had plenty leftover!! All in all a decent visit, nice owner with good customer service, and good food. Check them out!!! (This is an updated review, so the interior pics were from pre-covid. ) read more

The food was amazing and reasonably priced. We tried the jerked pork and chicken and the grannies curry chicken. Everything was delicious The woman that took our order was one of the nicest and genuinely attentive people I've met working at a restaurant in a long time. So I have been craving jerk chicken for some time. I went to a different location yesterday and was suddenly disappointed and figured I try again. Let's just say, it hit the spot. The chicken was spicier then I taste bud can handle (which tolerance is very low) but it didn't matter. I could not stop eating. I was completely pleased and craving has bee Taken care off. I was just a little disappointed because there were no Roti but that just means I have to go back then they are. I also tried the curry chicken and it was pretty yum as well. I will differently be returning. To excited to get me some Roti. Hopefully more trini items will be added to menu. read more

Delightful! I came here because of course I saw this place in triple D. Plus I love a good Carib spot. Pretty close to the beach in a strip mall, it looks to be one of the few places that remains open. They are not allowing seating right now, nor do they have public restrooms due to the 'vid. The menu is digital and there are a lot of options. Food is made to order and you can receive a text when your food is up. We tried: Brown stew beef Jerk chicken Soca bowl Coco bread Roti Plantain So full disclosure, I have never been a fan of jerk chicken, I mean it's cool but it will never be my first pick when I go to a Carib spot. The jerk here, was alright; although, I would have preferred it to have more spice. To taste it together with the cabbage was good. I honestly enjoyed the soca bowl more, as I have never thought to put together that combination, with the cheese. The brown stew beef, was thee best I have had in a while. The beef was super tender and had an amazing taste. The rice and peas were a nice addition. I also got a roti skin with some pepper sauce and that did not disappoint either. If they add some buss up shut to the menu, I'll never leave! We had to taste the food before we left in it way back home and one of the owners came out and offered us some water and had a quick chat. Super sweet and much appreciated. This place is a winner and the next time I'm back in town, I will go back. read more

The cook on the food was ok. But I would have to say it was very bland. Not sure if I would classify this place as Caribbean.

Covid can't keep us from Cari-be-n hungry. No better cure than this fabulous local place serving up fresh, consistently great, made to order island entrees. Jerk chicken is still my fave; sons thought theirs was a bit hotter than they remember, but I teased and said Covid was making them soft. Portions were a tad smaller but I think that's from to go versus dine in plating. $63 (with tax and tip) for 5 entrees is very good, especially to spread love locally.
