This branch is in a really convenient location and is maintained well. The people who work here are also super nice! I bought my birthday cake (the Purple Carousel chocolate cake) here, and they gave me an extra bag of sweets! My favorites are their: *Lemon bars - really great lemon flavor and have a tart, refreshing sweetness *Chocolate revel bars - probably the best I've had *Chocolate Campfire cake - very rich, but in this amazing way where you don't get tired of eating it! I've also had their: *Purple Carousel chocolate cake - classic chocolate cake with these chocolate wafers on top *Mini Pecan Pie - not the consistency I prefer in a pecan pie but the flavor was still very good *Mini Chocnut Pie - light, could use a stronger chocnut flavor, I really liked the crust though *Cookies - I love cookies so I usually get 1 or 2 with whatever else I'm buying that day, theirs are crispy on the edges and chewy on the inside *Quiche Tinapa - Liked this a lot and just ate mine chilled, but I think it would be better to warm it a little at home

This branch of French Baker will always have an important place in my heart. As a young girl, this…read moreused to be my favorite restaurant to dine at whenever a school year ends. Surely, my childhood experience of French Baker somehow influenced my early concept of French and Europe in general. I had my first taste of Primavera Pasta, Beef Burgundy, French Onion Soup, and Soup in a Bread Bowl here. Sometimes, we would take-home a freshly baked croissant or a Blueberry muffin; these delectable pastries matched well a bowl of salad greens or other home-made meals. The distinctly non-Filipino flavors of the food in French Baker made me feel like I am in a different world altogether, and the ambiance of its old restaurant layout reinforced that feeling. There used to be four or five half-circular chairs with round tables in the middle, covered by plastic (but somewhat believable) trees. Those were my favorite seats in this restaurant. These have long been gone, but The French Baker has maintained its European vibe. It remains cozy with its wooden layout and comfortable chairs. Though one can argue that other restaurants are more authentically French, this restaurant, no doubt, offers excellent food choices and an enjoyable dining experience.

It's been years since they did but it's not like you can buy a cheap (their macarons are only Php 36! Can you believe it? That's cheap) and reliable ones everywhere. They originally offered four flavors (raspberry, chocolate, mocha and pistachio) but they've added more over time. Which may translate to: the macarons are here to stay! Yay right? If you're not very familiar with macarons I recommend you try pistachio, and maybe the rose-flavored one as well. They're really good. Actually, I'm a little biased 'cause they're my favorites. Heh. Plus, The French Baker is literally everywhere. So you don't really have to travel far or look for a Tours Les Jours branch or something just to get your daily fix.

If anything, it's good if you want an alternative to Bread Talk but I wouldn't say it's an all-out substitute for Bread Talk. Take their seasonal offering last October: pumpkin muffins. Those were good. They were so good I probably had one every two weeks. You had a nicely sized muffin with this sweet pumpkin filling which went absolutely perfect with a cup of coffee. Now it's gone and I'll probably have to wait until next October to see it again. I mean, the flavors are all in the right places... I guess it's just that some things seem to be lacking. Maybe it was the texture of the Black Rice bread that turned me off. It felt like something between a bun and a piece of mochi... but maybe that was the point and I missed it entirely. The custard cream and the red bean things are alright too. And have I mentioned they have pretty cute cakes? For what it's worth, I can't really pick a favorite. Sometimes I feel like Bread Talk, sometimes I want to give these guys a try. There's just something about Tous Les Jours I can't put my finger on but it's so blatantly Korean. Not that it's a bad thing. It's just really obvious from the moment you set foot in the store. Plus points though, it's not as crowded as Bread Talk usually is.

I, being the sweet tooth that I am, didn't really mind so off we went into the store. The only problem was that it was pretty much closing by the time we got there. They also teach you a thing or two about quality over quantity. I can't say enough nice things about these cheesecakes, which come in "original" and chocolate flavors. They're airy, yet dense, and when you eat them cold together with a cup of warm coffee or tea...mmm! What I've noticed is people come here after lunch or dinner and order a tray of different items for dessert. Because Kumori is a good-sized bakery, you can get danishes, brioches, and breads, as well as the cheesecake. The cafe doesn't get overwhelmingly full as I thought it might, so perhaps this is a sleeper hit in the making. We have to let the market get to know them better. They are brightly lit, and the music in the background is relaxing. They serve cappuccino and drip coffees on nice professional machines, but I think some will agree their coffee is on the watery side. Less caffeine for me; coffee aficionados might be slightly let down.

Case in point, the way the Baker's Table takes candy from your childhood and uses it as the backdrop for pastry. Personally, I think it's brilliant. Candy's everywhere yet they've managed to take something so mundane and repackage it into something absolutely fitting. Three words, people: Butterball Caramel Cake. Predictable as I am, that was all it took to convince me of its brilliance. I love the fact that they never lose the essence of the candy. It's right there even if you're eating a piece of cake. They don't even commit the usual sins most bakeries do. The cake isn't dry and it isn't cloyingly sweet. Perfect with a cup of coffee (or tea, as my case was). I really can't say too much about this place. Candy has this sort of effect on people where no two experiences will ever be the same. They didn't have any in stock during my visit so I had to drop by the next day. To my horror. I went back first thing in the morning and sure enough, a whole cake was there waiting for me. I think a single slice costs around Php 125, which isn't really bad. We're talking about premium cakes here. The Haw Haw cake reminded me of tres leches, for some reason. Light chiffon, a little moist. It has a thin cream filling and the frosting tasted exactly like the candy, only better.

(Let's have coffee). I rarely hung out in cafés neither am a coffee drinker but this old panaderia is just so pleasing with it's down to earth yet classic ambiance, one cannot help but take a step inside. Everything seem to be just old but well-maintained, no air-conditioning nor fancy doors and windows, their main attraction is basically the 76 year old pugon in the kitchen where they bake all the breads and pastries that they serve. What I usually order is their famous pugon-baked pan de suelo, a slice of egg pie and a brewed coffee sided with condensada--simple, nostalgic, very Filipino and not to mention, very affordable. The smokiness of the fluffy pan de sal, smoothness of the egg pie filling, the classic combination of brewed coffee and condensada plus the whole package of the place will actually make you think and talk about how things were back then, your childhood stories and even Philippine history, if your conversation would go that far. To me, it is the perfect "kapihan" where everyone is welcome and anyone can be themselves. No pretensions needed. Kamuning Bakery also offers fresh cow's and goat's milk from Quezon, tablea tsokolate, pugon-baked old and modern day cakes and a variety of breads.
