I go in for cleanings and come out with a toothbrush. I had spaghetti and cracked my tooth on a red pepper seed ( the shaker kind). I go to my dentist, whom I love (Dr. Erik Fox), and he gives me a root canal. This is the root canal from hell (three sessions), but he handles it, and everything seems to be going well until...I develop a blister on my gum. Dr. Erik sent me to Northern Virginia Oral, Maxillofacial, and Implant Surgery and promised they would take good care of me. He wasn't wrong. Did I mention I'm a crybaby? LOL! During the consultation, I started crying when they told me what was going to happen. Just tears leaking out of my eyes, but they were so kind to me. Dr. Aslam assured me that it was ok. When people had traumatic episodes with dentists when they were younger (I did), they're often really scared. He promised everything would be ok..and it was. I went in, and they let my husband come back with me and hold my hand. After the needle went in for the anesthesia, I remember nothing except going to the spice markets in Marakesh...that's a wild dream, right? But not a bad one. When I woke up, they gave me a care package to take home and helped my husband get me into the car after giving him aftercare instructions. The care package had my first two doses of pain medication, pear-flavored chapstick for my lips, a barf bag (just in case), tons of gauze, and instructions on how to take care of the wound. I was thrilled that they not only got the tooth out but could do the bone graft and implant placement all at once. From the reception area people (Hi Amber!) to Dr Aslam and the nurses, I felt I was in good hands. They were understanding about my anxiety and never belittled it. They LITERALLY held my hand through the experience. I would definitely recommend them.

We showed up for the consultation appointment and waited for almost an hour to be seen; when we go back, the dentist was looking at 2 yr old xrays and I had to point that fact out to him because he couldn't read the date...which i though was kind of a red flag, pink it least. So, they do updated xrays and we move forward with the consultation and I schedule an appt to get my sons wisdom teeth removed. The appointment was scheduled more than 30 days out... the evening before the appointment on June 6, 2025, I received a call saying the insurance was still not confirmed and unless i wanted to pay out of pocket, they would have to reschedule the appointment. I asked them to call me back to schedule once they verify insurance. This place NEVER called back. What I have received, 2 billings for $10.93 with no indication why i was billed. I get it it's $10.93, it least its not $110.93. I paid this a month ago because I realize this place is not good and I just want them to go away. Today, August 1, 2025, I received the same billing for $10.93. I called at 330pm on a Friday and the office is closed, but the office hours are listed to be open til 430pm. The point in all this is, don't waste your time with this practice, find a better place for you or your family member to be put under and have someone cutting into your mouths.

Dr. Bernard Lynch doesn't use this device because he says it's overkill. So if you're hoping for more insight on TMD and your jaw position, you won't get it here. It's advertised on his website that a one-on-one comprehensive evaluation will be done that can last up to 2 hours. This is not true. He will spend around 15 minutes doing basic checks. This will cost you $200. Also he was a bit disrespectful when I asked questions about my symptoms. When Dr. Lynch heard that I read about TMD, he was very dismissive and said I shouldn't waste my time with that. He treated me like I was a nerd for trying to learn about dentistry. That's not the right behavior for a doctor. I gave 2 stars because at least he was honest when he said he didn't know what to do.

I am really happy I made the switch! The office is located in a strip mall in Burke Centre, and has plenty of parking and is easy to access. The interior space is very pleasant, soothing, and immaculate, perfect for a dental office. Better yet, EVERYONE who works here is very warm, helpful, and friendly. After my initial visit in early March of this year, I had to come back for some more work, and I'm happy to say that they cheerfully re-scheduled my appointment several times when the stay-at-home orders started for the coronavirus. When I finally went in towards the end of May, they had multiple precautions in place against the virus. Since I am an older adult, I really appreciated this attention to my health and that of others. My actual dental care was terrific. Both the hygienist and the dentist, Dr. Ghorbani, took time to explain everything to me. It turns out I needed a crown (my first one), but I was not surprised as it was for a tooth that I had suspicions about. Due to some tooth coloration issues, he had my crown made not at his usual lab, but at one somewhere out west that specializes in matching tooth enamel in appearance. He warned me that it was more expensive, but I felt that having a nice-looking tooth (you can see the crown with my normal smile) was worth it. As it turns out, the total bill for all the work, after my insurance paid, was much lower than I thought it was going to be! Dr. Ghorbani and the rest of the Shield Dental Care staff treated me with respect, warmth, and gave me the best possible care. I recommend them to anyone!

That's the opposite here, as he's very genuine, and honest about what your options are. He's also quite funny, and having had novacaine I think it's called shots from him, he's far more gentle than others in the field. I was going to a different award winning dentist (Not Mr. Khan) far away because I really liked his services. I eventually decided to join my husband at Khan's practice because it's much closer to our new home. My husband had told me that he was nice to him, which I found not to be the case with me. When I first went to Khan's practice, it was obvious that he was not nice. He always spoke down to me though he was clearly very nice to my white husband. I'm a South Asian just like Mr. Khan. I felt like he was the type of person who talked down to women of his own color. I was always polite and cooperative, though I'm not a wallflower and was not afraid to speak. I felt as though it was not the expectation. Over time, I was unhappy not only with his snobby, attitude but also became with the quality of care. Some of my cleanings felt below average, and Dr. Khan once suggested veneers for very minor wear on my front teeth, even though no other dentist had ever suggested that and my teeth are healthy and well-aligned. It felt unnecessary. I had already started searching for another dentist in the area. The final issue involved a crown that was bothering me. I mistakenly thought Dr. Khan had worked on that tooth, but later learned my last dentist had handled it. My last dentist kindly fixed the issue at no cost, no questions asked without making me feel uncomfortable. At my next cleaning with Mr. Khan, he seemed upset about the confusion. He was visibly annoyed and spoke more arrogantly than usual. When I tried to explain, he loudly interrupted me and said, "YES, YOU WERE WRONG!" I found that extremely arrogant, unprofessional and inappropriate. I had already decided to stop going to his practice before the incident, but needed to get my retainers redone before I stop going because Mr.Khan already had the mold to my teeth. So, I called to have my retainers remade because the previous ones he made were broken, and I was told Mr. Khan did not want me to return to the practice. I was shocked that a simple misunderstanding about a crown would result in being banned as a patient! No professional should be this sore about something this small. My husband and I were purely going to Mr. Khan's practice because it's so close to home. I'm surprised but all the good reviews here on Google, which makes me wonder if him and his team do everything in their power to get rind of negative reviews. If they try to discredit or get rid of my review, I will continue to leave my rebuttal with the truth.
