In Feb 2024 I called 11 different storage companies on the West side of Salt Lake valley. 10 of them would not tell me what their history is for raising rents on existing customers, and would not connect me to anyone with authority to discuss it. I had been renting from Extra Space Storage for 7 years, during which time they raised my rent an exorbitant 140%, but would never connect me with anyone to explain why. They are currently charging new customers 120% less than me. Bait and Switch! When I called Copperview, I talked directly with the owner, Jim. He explained that he treats existing and new customers equally when he his costs require rate changes. I talked to two different people who have rented from him for years, and they each confirmed that rates have risen reasonably, close to inflation. They are pleased with how they have been treated. I started renting at Copperview in Feb 2024 for the lowest rate of any of the 11 companies I had called, for my size unit. He and his staff have treated me very well. I don't think anyone on this planet drives by a storage facility and says, "wow, what an awesome place to spend money." I don't think anyone even cares about these types of businesses.......until they need one. I had some rather expensive furniture delivered before we were ready to put it in our house and I was suddenly in need of a place/. I went to THREE different places to find a unit to rent and I got the run around over and over. The final one was on 7th east right south of Sandy city self storage. There was a sign on the door they said 'be right back'. I, along with 2 other customers sat outside in the middle of the day for more than 20 minutes. No one came. I suddenly had visions of my high school prom date ghosting me after dinner...and became frustrated seeing as how this was the third go aground. I googled storage units near me and up popped sandy city storage. And it was just a couple blocks away. I pulled up and met a man named Bailey. He was friendly, fast, efficient and had me in and out within 10 minutes. Voila. Finished! When I came back a week later to load in the furniture, he again was there and helped me get situated, and was extremely helpful. Now, several months later, I went to check out and couldn't remember the process to get into my unit. He smiled and then helped me out again. It's like Thai guy loves his job. It's like he is super proud to work for such a great....albeit....boring company. Bailey was fantastic!!! Pickup and return…read morewent smoothly and the staff were friendly, so I was happy with the experience until my receipt arrived the next day with a $20 fuel surcharge. I had filled the tank before returning the truck and showed the clerk my gas receipt at drop-off. When I called to ask about the charge, I got stuck in an endless hold loop, so I went in person and waited about 20 minutes to talk to someone. The manager said the gauge showed 7/8 full. I showed him the same receipt and explained that I'd filled it completely. There's no reason I would pay for gas and then stop an eighth of a tank short. He was rude and argumentative from the start. He did eventually agree to look into it, but it took so long that I left, and he called me an hour later to say there was nothing they could do. A gauge reading slightly under full right after a fill-up isn't unusual, and a customer with a receipt in hand deserves the benefit of the doubt. It is a crooked business practice to add fees that they hope no one will see and then treat the customer rudely when confronted with the inconsistency.

The cool stuff is they have a service that is not insurance but will cover up to $2000 in losses at no charge to the customer so I didn't get the email insurance as my stuff isn't worth near that coverage. It's nice not to be mandated to have insurance is your stuff, moving boxes, doesn't need coverage. Also, they have a truck you can use for free. The facility is always immaculately clean. The office staff has always been friendly and helpful. I recently needed to ship around 20 boxes with a shipper. When the truck arrived the driver was very rude and wasn't going to pick up the freight because I did not have a label on each box. The office staff quickly made copies for me and then helped me put the labels on the boxes before the driver could leave without picking up the shipment! I was very grateful and impressed by the extra mile customer service. I would highly recommend Think Storage for your storage needs.
