When you've got to do the poo or take a wee pee, rest areas are a welcome stop along the interstates. According to There's Something About Mary, they are also "homosexual hangouts," however, on 1-17 (aka Black Canyon Freeway) between Flagstaff and Phoenix is a rest area with a better purpose: a scenic view of the valley and mountains to the west. I'm guessing its breathtaking as the sun goes down ... hence the name Sunset Point Rest Area. - Exit 252 - Restrooms - Handicap facilities - Picnic tables - Phones - Vending Machines - Scenic View Well, the scenic view is aight, but it ain't the Grand Canyon either. I am a frequent "up north" traveler and I recall when this rest stop was closed for several months for renovation. This is the first time I have stopped here since the Reno. First of all, the view deserves 10 stars, it's so pretty. The renovation includes several observation areas with plenty of shade, picnic tables and photo opportunities. There are several bathrooms and vending machines. A bonus to me since I had no cash was many of the vending machines accept debit! Hooray! Empty bladder, full belly and a pretty pic - can't get better then that! read more

Is it weird to say I love this rest stop? Because I do! It's big, always packed and clean. I love how clean it it. I also love all the little signs warning dog owners of the dangers of our less then friendly snakes and scorpions. It's a great place to get out, stretch your legs and take in the view. Ok, the view has never been pretty for me but it's expansive and the air is fresh. They have plenty of tables and benches to rest too. If you got to go, this is a great little stop. read more

After the remodel, Sunset Point is now awesome! Great views with lots of scenic outlook spots! Great big, clean restrooms that are maintained on a regular basis. They even have a variety of snacks & drinks available. Nice, covered picnic tables too .Best part is that now you can use a credit card instead of cash only as it was previously. Plenty of parking for cars, trucks, motor homes, & 18-wheelers. There are even some Geocaches nearby if you have the time, go to Geocaching. com to find out where they are. When I leave Phoenix for any amount of time I get this sense of excitement for what the future holds. Along with my excitement is usually a stop here for rest room breaks. The bathrooms are clean, there are stocked vending machines, and also binocular machines. I also appreciate that the bathrooms have flushing toilets. I LOATHE porta-potties! They also have pet friendly areas which is a plus because I take my pup on most of my trips. The view is absolutely stunning as well. read more

WARNING!!!!! AVOID THE CONCRETE TABLES AT ALL COST!!!!!!! Stopped for a fast stretch and did a little exploring. The time was 11pm and lucky for me had a flashlight to aid in my shocking discoveries. I hardly ever write reviews, I should because I definitely rely on others to give me a heads up for life's this and that's... This time however I felt morally obligated to alert fellow motorists, as I discovered multiple nests of Black Widow Spiders under every picnic bench which are located under the gazebos. I don't know how long it takes for a Black Widow to spin a colossal nest which literally took up 25% of the area beneath the tables. The remaining area was also infected but instead with long random webs prob for purposes of getaway routes for the few male Widows that remained in the family. The point being is with the work that these dangerous and creepy spiders have put in, I would guess it could have taken weeks for such a thing to occur. There were those white balls or more appropriately described as Widow Eggs that looked to me as if they were ready to pop stitched within. Obviously a point of high security as they were inside the main Cluster of webs that made her nest and clearly supervised by the well fed beast of a spider beneath the table as flying objects are in no short supply. I would be amazed if a little dog sniffing around or a person sitting down to utilize the concrete benches for the purpose of their design hasn't already or inevitably be met with something possibly life threatening to happen. This type of disregard for the our public safety is totally unacceptable and inexcusable. I would expect to see a sight of this nature in a abandoned mine shaft in a third world country, whatever agency whom has ownership should fix and properly maintain before someone or someone's pet gets harmed. read more

This is the most beautiful, well-designed, well maintained rest stop we have ever seen.
