The County Courthouse Square is known as the jewel of Prescott. The square continues to hold public events. I was allowed through the door to take photos of the architectural drawings of the courthouse. I could not go further because must have official business at the courthouse to enter the inside. There are several statues and a fountain on site. A beautiful building with restrooms facilities on the site. Free street parking all along the Square. read more

Courthouse square in the center of Prescott AZ the original territorial capital of the Arizona territory. A beautiful park setting with large shade trees in the summer. This historical piece of ground has been in use for over 140 years. Though nowdays it host summer concerts, various craft fairs to smaller gatherings of prayer groups as well as political rallies and peaceful demonstrations. Though a century earlier it was where the territory held public hangings. It is surrounded by the famous whiskey row as well as an assortment of small businesses including restaurants and bars. This unique building is the view from my hotel room. The court house is massive and the surrounding green park is just a delight. Since it's Rodeo week, the main entry is double lined with Arizona State Flags. The is a very pretty city, no graffiti, no homeless in two days, & very clean streets. Trash cans and resting benches on almost every Main Street. Well worth coming here. On to Jerome later today. About a hour away. All good. read more

The Yavapai County Courthouse is the focal point of downtown Prescott. The Courthouse was built in 1916 and is still strikingly beautiful, looking like the perfect backdrop for a movie set. This century old Courthouse Square green space feels like it's out of a movie, but it's great for us back to the future. We were up here for a conference and found the Yavapai County Court House impressive. In any other town, the Courthouse would be the the major attraction and take up most of the space in the town square. Here, thanks to great planning by the founders of Prescott, we have this wonderful large green space that surrounds it. Thanks to their great planning and foresight it allows for a nice area to picnic or just relax under a shady tree. Now that summer is approaching, Prescott's allure for it's cooler temps, the fun of Whiskey Row's galleries and bar life, may spur us in the Valley to make this ninety minute trip. I love "The Square" It is actually one of the reasons I choose to live in Prescott proper and close to downtown. It is a fantastic place for a walk, with or without your dog, and a great place for a picnic or just to hang out. There are, of course, all of the activities, shows, and festivals of all sorts that are held here throughout the year. Personally my favorite times here are when nothing like that is scheduled. I passed through Prescott years ago and admired the town square so I took the opportunity to check it out again during an art fair. I was curious about the two main sculptures on the square by Solon Borglum (the brother of Mount Rushmore sculptor, Gutzon Borglum). After taking some photos, checking out some of the western art on display at the fair, and, unexpectedly, downing some really good fried samosas sold by one of the food vendors, a woman noticed my camera and said that I just had to take a photo of the Mike the Community Dog plaque. (Awkward pause.) Uh, okay. I walked around for a while and then found the plaque. After asking someone who was standing on it to move, I read the inscription: 'Self-appointed guardian of the plaza, official welcomer of visitors and general ambassador of good will, Ol' Mike was known and beloved by all. 'Regardless of age, color, creed or station in life, he was a silent, tolerant, loyal friend.' Now, I'm no sleuth but my take is that Mike the Dog (1945-1960) was a four-legged dignitary and major power broker in downtown Prescott who led an exemplary canine life and was not a racist dog. I had no idea that some dogs in the 40s and 50s were racists so it goes to show that we've come a long way in this country and Mike the Dog was a true pioneer. So, my visit to Prescott was quite memorable and you have to give points to any town that is willing to erect a plaque in the town square for a dog. Three cheers for Prescott, Arizona. read more

My wife and I absolutely loved this town square! It's an absolute must to come here during Christmas time. We came on Christmas Eve so we missed the parade and lighting ceremony but still got to experience the lights, Christmas tree and bandstand. The courthouse was also very palatial, definitely giving off that feel of being in the Old West. The highlight of our time there had to be the 103-year-old pine tree planted the same day AZ became a state: 02/14/1912. The thing was huge and had music with synchronized lights attached! Pretty much every attraction in Prescott is around this square so you can't miss it. Stop by for a day trip or on your way to Sedona or Flag! read more

Oh Prescott- such a historic lil community. Courthouse square follows suit. Walking through this one block park one can't help but think about how old the courthouse and surrounding buildings are. I happened to pop in during a historical weekend celebration. The square was transformed into an open-air, antique fair. There were so many interesting pieces to look at and some real unique bargain to have be had. There was a live band. Some kind of competition in between songs. People dressed up in pioneer-esq apparel... Plus its a convenient place to catch a snooze, especially since Whiskey Row runs along one side of the square ;) read more

Every town should have a spot like this in it!! It is a lovely park, civic center, and gathering spot for various community activities. I have been here for both an afternoon picnic after an art festival as well as a late night burrito binge post drinking on Whiskey Row. Both times it was a memorable and pleasant experience. I also love the fact that they have so many free performances throughout the summer. I realize a lot of locals complain about the parking issues but I don't think they appreciate what a gift it is to get those free arts and cultural experiences... even if you do have to walk a little ways. Today, they are having art in the square, and there are very talented artist and their work set up along the square. It's beautiful work, and would be lovely to pick out something for the house, but not in the budget this trip! The square is just that, with the courthouse in the middle, there are some historical plaques along the walk, so we stopped and learned a few things about the town of Prescott and how it came to be. We usually buy raw organic honey with the comb in it from a local bee keeper. I was bummed they were not there the last time. Lots of hand made jewelry ranging from $5 to very expensive. I particularly like the iron garden sculptures. Food concession galore, if you want something quick. We always find awesome covered parking structure ($5 event) on McCormick St. right off Gurley St. (pass the Sharlot Hall Museum at the corner). Easy walk to any destination. For years I have been visiting Prescott and have always visited the downtown area known as "Courthouse Square." During the years there have been various arts and craft fairs, live musical performances and the square is within walking distance to the historical "Whiskey Row." Restaurants, shops and bars are located near by. Recently last weekend I attended the Frank Sinatra Tribute. It consisted of various live Frank Sinatra songs performed by a man and he told Frank Sinatra's life story. Gotta love the Square. They have stands when the weather is nice with food and art. Kids hula hooping and playing. In October you get Dogtober fest, but it's always a great place to walk your dog. If you like the movie Billy Jack, the scene where he gets in the fight and throws the guy through the window was filmed across the street. They deck the place out at Christmas with tons of lights. Few towns in Arizona have a location as picturesque as Prescott's Courthouse Square. Nestled in the downtown area it lends a Kapra-like quality and harkens to small town America. My folks from New Hampshire loved "the common" like they had back home. When I briefly lived in Prescott this was a routine gathering and meeting place. Beautiful statues, lovely architecture and benches begging to be sat on; shaded lawn begging to be napped upon. In the Autumn the colors are magnificent. In the winter the lighting of the Courthouse for the holidays is a wonderful outting. A favorite memory is this is where the fight scene from "Billy Jack" took place there where the warning "be careful of his feet - he'll kill you with his feet!". Master Review: Prescott's Downtown Square When I was a young boy, around eleven or twelve, my father and I would take summer trips to a little town that was full of entertainment, events, and activities. It was friendly, it was peaceful, and it was a town that I could go to and always know that I are going to have a good time. In the summer, the town had a bright shine to it. The stone monuments from historic times would have a peachy glow to them and I could make out shadows of the leaves on the sidewalk from the very old tall oak trees. I have since grown into a man and have moved many states away. Just the other weekend, I decided to explore a town that was a couple of towns away from mine. It was a beautiful sunny day with very light wind. The bluebirds were chirping, and the squirrels were running around in the soft green grass, hunting for acorns. This town was called Prescott and it reminded me exactly of the town my father used to take me to when I was a boy. Prescott's main attraction happens to be a giant building made from stone with huge pillars and fancy engravings called the Prescott Courthouse Plaza. From the research that I have done and the from the experiences I have had there, I could highly relate Prescott to the stunning little town I grew up knowing. The Prescott Courthouse Square provides a great place for families and people to spend time together. Families seem to enjoy the courthouse plaza, because of the fun, friendly, and unique atmosphere. In Prescott, near the town hall, there is always something to do. In the summertime, will find all sorts of events going on at the square. During the day, the square is very much alive. In the morning, early risers can be seen in their tennis shoes, power walking, or jogging. When the afternoon rolls around, that is when most of the activities start. The scene turns into somewhat of a comingled age group. The young children will be standing in line impatiently waiting to get their faces painted with bright happy colors, while the adults are gazing in awe at the hand-crafted jewelry that is on display by the local vendors. The town is a great place for retirement and Arizona-leisure.com says "Nowhere is Arizona's territorial history so beautifully preserved as in Prescott, AZ." (History N.P). With the amount of RV dealerships in the area, it is safe to say that many of the people who live here came to experience a beautiful retirement. Many of the different foods that the square has to offer are super delicious, and some are even made right in front of . Along with fun activities, there is also great food. Besides hamburgers and hotdogs, they also have the infamous funnel cake. It's normal for people to build up an appetite after viewing some of the fascinating parts of the square; the smell of the food restaurants really help. Sweet scents coming from the popular and high demanding snow cone and cotton candy machines, drive the children wild as they beg their guardians to buy them some tasty treats. My absolute favorite accommodation to any food choice being offered is the homemade lemonade made from freshly squeezed lemons. These lemons have a unique taste of sweet and sour and I think they are a delicacy. Sounds from the town hall reflect a busy and happy atmosphere. Among the loud noises from the bikers dressed in black leather and bandanas, there are sounds of joy coming from parents, children, and their families. Running, laughing, and playing in the soft green grass under the sleepy oak trees, bring happy tones to the people around them. Lots of traffic passes by each hour. Horns honking at pedestrians crossing the cross walk when it is not time for them to cross. Dogs playfully barking in communication to each other, while running around sniffing every little scent their nose can pick up on. The Prescott's downtown square and it's beautiful scenery is home to one of the most majestic places on the planet, from my perspective. Taking a breath at a bench on a sunny afternoon at the square with sounds of soft acoustic instruments being played and the smell of homemade specialty food in the air leaves a feeling of relaxation and peace. I'm speaking from personal experience when I say that the square is very unique in terms of diverse art and talents. Anyone who is thinking of visiting or even moving to Prescott, will not be disappointed with the square. Experiencing the different artistic creations and talents of the community members, is an experience that I would recommend to anyone. read more

DOG FRIENDLY! Always something happening here and my favorite town square of any that I have traveled to. Weekends are busy with frequent art shows, people enjoying frisbee and lots of dogs socializing! The grass is well kept and the square is clean.
