We stayed here 06/26 it was a place we stumbled upon, since other one we were going to go to was full. It was a nice site! It was quiet and I liked how close we were to the city. Campsite had a fire pit and picnic table. They had bathrooms which I'll be honest, I've never seen so many flies at once. You open the door and they fly right out at you like a movie lol. We also encountered three bears around 10:30pm. We didn't know there were bears in the area. They did have a post by the bathroom on how to be "bear aware" but nothing about sightings, so I thought I'd warn here. I'm pretty sure it was a mom and two cubs. White Spar Campground - Morning coffee - Campgrounds Near Me - Prescott, Arizona

This campground is located only a few miles from downtown Prescott. I usually like to camp in more secluded spots. But during COVID-19 summer, everyone decided to become a camper and campgrounds filled up quick. So I gave this spot a try because there wasn't much to choose from. White Spar Campground has 52 single and 4 double occupancy campsites. There is drinking water on site, bathrooms, and fire rings for campfires. There are also plenty of trees if you want to hang a hammock. For activity, we drove to nearby Goldwater lake to hike and kayak. Watson, Lynx, and Willow lakes are not too far either. One nice thing is if you run out of anything, you can drive a few minutes into town and pick up something from the grocery store. But I personally would rather camp a little farther from traffic noise and light pollution. read more

Very nice camp ground. Easy to get a space. Price is good and town is very close to visit . Highly recommend

Overall, this campground was excellent. There are pit toilets which were clean and did not smell. They were well insulated, which made doing your business in +-40 degree weather tolerable. There were drinking water faucets around the campground and plenty of trash receptacles for your waste. There were dozens of miles of hiking and mountain biking trails that led directly to the campground, no driving necessary. On our first night we did have a black bear visit our camp, luckily we had no food out and the encounter, while amazing, was uneventful. Be mindful about leaving things out at night because they are around. We met the camp hosts, who were awesome. Unfortunately they had to go around and check all the sites because people come in the middle of the night and camp and don't pay, or people reserve a site and then invite 1/2/3 more families to stay there. I heard some people had the audacity to be rude to the camp host. It's $15, come on. The only negative was either the campground or someone with a trailer had a generator or something that would randomly start and hum in the middle of the night which awoke several campsites and was really irritating to say the least. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. read more

Beautiful park, with lovely hiking/biking trails across the street. Very peaceful even though it's close to downtown.

The campground host is MIA. Their camp is a train wreck. No toilet paper and the vault toilets are unkept and almost full to the brim. We found a site that we had to clean and rake ourselves. No pay envelope's or pen were available. The fire pit was full of ashes so it was unusable. When the hosts finally arrived back after the 5 hours we had been there we attempted to pay the fee and were told we would need to move because our site was reserved so we had pack it all up and move to another spot There was nothing posted at the site about it being reserved. The next morning the reserved spot was still empty. It's too bad, it's a nice campground. Something is very off here about the way the camp is being run and there needs to be a change. read more

Nice campground was in space 26. However it heavy rained and ditch or channel was full and flooded the tent at an angle under neath felt like a water bed lol. Javalines came as visitors. First time I saw one a bit scared they have no fear. They come in groups. No posted information about them only about bears and snakes. I saw one snake walking 2 dogs but not a rattler. Enjoyed the campground and will come again but in a cooler month than June it was hot and humidity was not use to. One night across some kids having a party all night long but they left next morning. Be aware who camps near you. Lovely place to camp. I'll return. read more

The Good - The southern half of the campground is nicely maintained with nice pull through and paved RV sites with well maintained amenities. If you have an RV, Travel Trailer, or you're a boondocker this is going to be a great place close to town that's pretty cheap per night. You also have access to quite a few hiking trails near/around the campground if that's your thing. Amenities - The vault/pit toilets are nicely maintained and stocked of bath tissue. There are drinking water spigots and refuse containers throughout. Concrete picnic tables and iron ring fire pits at every site. Some of the sights have graveled pad sites for tents. Overall, the camp hosts (there are two of them - one in the southern half and one in the northern half) keep the sites clean and the toilets stocked and maintained. The Bad - The northern half is where the sites tend to get a lot smaller and more on-top of each other. There is also quite a bit more sketchy folks who may be in the northern half. There is a problem with homelessness in the area and your chances of having stuff stolen or being hassled may go up. Keep your valuables locked up and don't put anything you don't want to lose in your tent or other non-secured areas. So why the three star rating? - The vibe we got while we stayed there was weird to say the least. It didn't help matters that we were hassled by a homeless person looking for alcohol, drugs, food, and a ride into town. There was information given to us from a Forest Service Professional of the problem of homelessness and folks with troubles in the area but they try to do the best of mitigating that problem and keeping other campers safe. This is just something to keep in mind when you're looking to book or stay at this campground in the future. Final Thoughts - Overall I would say if you choose to stay at this campground you're probably going to have a good experience. Try to stay in the southern half if you can and just be aware of some of the problems in the area. I am sure I would consider staying here again during the spring or fall months. Lastly, we had a slight issue with our reserved site. The campground works off of the honor pay system and our site was taken from us from a walk-in guest who neglected to see the reserved marker on the site post. The camp host (as of May 2019) made sure we were taken care of. This went a long way for us and will weigh towards a return visit in the future. The location is appreciated but this campground needs done TLC and monitoring. I have never had a situation where rowdy campers disregarded the quiet time. No ranger or host helped and party lasted most of the night. No sleep, not rested for the next day of driving. read more

I camped at White Spar for 4 nights (Labor Day weekend) and it was an overall great experience! A beautiful campground that is well-maintained/well run, and felt very secure as a solo camper. I was initially a bit concerned as it was so close to town, but felt very safe and quiet hours were enforced (yay!!). I met Colleen on her rounds and she was very helpful and friendly. I've only stayed at official campsites a few times. We usually go out and just find what we can in a remote camping spot. It seemed like a nice place online so my fiancé and I with another couple made reservations. Driving in to the campsite is all paved road (which could be a benefit for some people, like with cars). When we got to our designated spot we were disappointed by just how close the other camping sites were. We could have reached out and touched the people next to us' tent. The host/manager lady that walks around to make sure reservations are set up and paid for was very friendly and made sure we were all set. The site itself is very close to downtown Prescott which is really nice. We only stayed one night but had to reserve and pay for two nights for that particular site. We could hear every word from people at a few campsites that's how close we were to others. The fire pit was nice because it gave you a secure place to have a fire. There was also a concrete picnic table which was nice to have. There was a "bathroom" but they were basically a port-a-potty with bricked walls. Overall it was okay but just not my idea of camping. I don't want to have to worry about strangers being RIGHT next to you arguing at 4:00 am or the possibility of disturbing your neighbors because they went to bed at 8:00pm. read more
