A nice orchard, especially for a large variety of apples. We came here late season, so a lot of the apples and pumpkins were already sold out. It's also a good place if you want to get in a ride in the country too.

I highly recommend the Sunset Orchard! A great place for families and visitors to experience apple picking and delicious pastries served with a smile by the warm and friendly people. Visit the bakery and grab a cup of hot or cold cider with a pastry or two. You can sit by the benches or ride the hay ride to go around the farm.

From the comments on Sunset Orchard's Facebook page, I thought I had found a gem. The drive there was gorgeous and offered some fantastic leaf-peeping. However, as soon as we entered the main building, my idyllic visions of our annual autumn apple picking adventure immediately began to waver. Lawn furniture, big screen tvs, splatter painted walls, and dingy carpet aside...I'll just sum up the decor by saying it's a bit rough around the edges. I think a big splash of fresh, white paint would do WONDERS for Sunset Orchards. We both got cider and cider donuts. The cider donuts were different than any others I've ever tried. I didn't really like them and the glazing on top tasted of chalky powdered sugar. I didn't even finish mine. The cider was good and tasted like...well, cider. On to the apples. There is a 10lb minimum and the apples are $1.50 a pound. Most places just charge you $15-$20 for the bag and I've never had an issue with that. But, for some reason being handed two bags and told we "had" to fill up these bags seemed very daunting. The orchard isn't huge so you can walk it but there is a tractor (aka lawnmower) pulled wagon if you've got little ones. Overall, the experience was just fine and we got our apples just as we'd hoped but I'm not sure they romanced me enough to get me back there next year. With all of the options for pick-your-own in Rhode Island, I really feel it's important to be on top of your game. For the orchard owners, apple picking is all about the business but for the consumer, it's about the nostalgia and memories you're building so a little fluff and filler can go a long way.

Easy to find via GPS, there is a small parking area right next to the farm's fields in North Scituate. There's a small stand where you prepay a pint at $6, a fee that is deducted from your final expense when you're done picking. The weekend price is $4.75/lb... cheaper during the week but I can't recall the specifics. Open everyday but Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There's a loyalty program available once you've picked 10lbs of berries (two of us easily picked 6lbs together on a relatively quick visit so it's doable). The staff were very helpful and explained everything we needed to know to get things started. Three fields were pointed out to us, with the freedom to choose whichever we wanted. It was explained that each blueberry bush was different and to feel free to taste test to find ones we were interested in picking. It didn't take long before we were underway - filling our borrowed buckets with shoulder straps full of berry deliciousness. Beautiful, peaceful farm for an enjoyable late morning out. It was a somewhat overcast day which made for ideal picking conditions. I'd suggest wearing a sun hat and other sun protection if you're here on a clear day. Quick in and out to pay for what we gathered - very pleasant experience overall.

I wanted to try a new orchard and have a nice time before the cold really sets in -- so I decided to come here with my family who adores farms and such. We purchased an apple bag that granted us access to the orchard and pick some apples. However, when we were loading them into the trunk of my car, I heard someone say, "are yall gonna pay for that?" Obviously we had paid for them already inside and I explained this to her but she insisted on saying that we weren't allowed to pick apples unless we bought the bag and that stealing is not something that they allowed at the farm... which really irked me because I already bought a bag and explained to her this but she seemed so bothered and didn't understand. Her customer service skills are nonexistent and not here at all. it's extremely rude to assume we were stealing apples when we obviously had a bag with the logo of the farm. Why would anyone jump to the conclusion that we were stealing? I definitely didn't like the experience and I won't be coming back here. I would rather take my business elsewhere where I can shop in peace and enjoy family time. If they're going to be this unhappy and rude, don't work at a farm. Simple. Won't be coming back to this especially if blondie wants to be so rude.

The apples were great quality and were delicious to eat and bake with later in the week. We parked a little far out from the entrance based on how busy it was (Sunday afternoon), but it was an easy walk. A lot of the apples that were ready to be picked and of good quality were at the top of the trees. I wish they offered ladders or picker tools to allow people to get good apples that can't be reached otherwise. Also, they had run out of apple cider donuts, which was a shame. We got some apple cider and fresh raspberries to take home, which were also both delicious. I would definitely pick our own raspberries next year if we return. We would definitely go back for a fun Fall activity each year!

I thought the layout was easy to follow and very organized. The space across the orchard was truly maximized. Rows upon rows of beautiful apples waiting to be picked. This weekend 9/15, Honeycrisp, Cortland, Gala, Liberty and McIntosh were ready for picking. My wife and I are apple feinds eating 1 or 2 a day each. We had the fridge space for cold storage so we did 1/2 bushel which hits you @ $55. We ended up getting 24.5lbs of apples which came out to $2.24/lb. Not bad for fresh off the tree. If you don't eat as many apples, it is a little on the price side because here are the prices: 1/2 bushel ($55 = admission for 5) 1 peck ($35 = admission for 3) 1/2 peck ($17.50 = admission for 1) 1/4 peck ($15.00 I think? = 1 child 10 and under) Quantity is certainly your friend here. Not an issue for us because we eat so many (enjoyed over 4 while picking em.... They were good and couldn't help myself). We also grabbed some apple cider donuts on the way out. 1/2 dozen for $11 and they're the best apple cider donuts I've ever had. They actually tasted like apple and not just straight up sugar. Heat up in the microwave for 10 seconds before enjoying and chefs kiss. Will be back here in a month! Looking forward to some fuji and evercrisp!
