My Cousin tried like 4 flavors and the girls were really friendly and helpful. The watermelon is not as sweet as others which is great! Stopped in for a little snack. There are numerous flavors to choose from. My wife had Banana and Chocolate Chip. I had the Black Rasberry. Both tasted really good. We ate inside where the place was cool. There were many folks sitting outside enjoying the warm weather and ice cream. This straightforward ice cream shop sits directly next door to a Kilwin's. I wonder who was here first. The ice cream is good but not great. My dad got his favorite, rum raisin, which he often cannot find. My sister got chocolate in a pretzel cone, which I had never heard of and think is a great idea. I got a hot fudge sundae with chocolate-malt ice cream. With the chopped nuts (skip the whipped cream) this was one of the best sundae combinations that I've ever tasted. Came here after the 4th of July during covid-19 and stopped in for some ice cream before my tour. There was only one employee working that I could see and this was on a Monday so there wasn't much business at the time. I noticed that the bathrooms weren't open either, so I'm assuming hand washing was not possible, but they did have a hand sanitizer available at the front door. One of the major things I noticed while the girl was preparing my ice cream cones, she was not wearing any gloves. She used about two napkins to hold the cones, but still, during a pandemic, gloves should be a major requirement while preparing any foods. While walking around after having dinner, my husband and I stopped in for some dessert. The staff was friendly and quick to serve us. The portions were generous. Ice cream was creamy and not overwhelmingly sugary. We chose to sit on a bench outside because the weather was very nice and got to enjoy the live band coming from the restaurant across the street. After a long day of exploring, it was a relaxing end to a long day. read more

My 4 friends and I were wanting ice cream while in Gettysburg. Another parlor is town had a line out the door. The other was advertising vegan ice cream which did not sound appetizing to us, so we tried Sunset. We were not impressed. There was one employee and she was flustered and taking a very long time. I ordered soft serve with peanut butter, but got chocolate. The waffle cone was good but the ice cream melted and dripped all over. It's a pretty typical ice cream parlor. Though with local ice cream shops, I'm accustomed to being offered samples. They didn't appear to do that here (though it could be because it was the 150th anniversary weekend in Gettysburg). Pretty straightforward with your typical sundae options. All the usual flavors with some more interesting ones available as well. Generous portions were given in my two-scoop waffle cone. The ice cream itself is slightly better than store-bought but not super great either. They clearly still use artificial ingredients (like in the strawberry and chocolate chip mint and chocolate) but it is clearly fresher ice cream than just store-bought. It was refreshing on a super hot and humid July afternoon after walking for hours. If it were just a regular stop when I wasn't nearly dying of heat stroke? Meh. read more

How can you not give the Sunset 5 stars. This is your typical great hometown independent ice cream shop. They have tasty ice cream and huge portions. We have been coming monthly for years and have never had a bad experience. Nothing fancy...simple, honest and satisfying. When my daughter has a bad day....she always says, "Can we go to get ice-cream at sunset?" The staff is always friendly. Nice spot to eat on the side of the building when it is warm. I walked the short distance from the Dobbin House Tavern and ghost tour shop to this uncrowded ice cream shop. I had a root beer float while waiting for the Live or Die walking tour to begin. I was disappointed to find the vanilla ice cream tasteless. I had hoped it would have real vanilla beans in it.
