I want to boost this restaurant because it is under new management and is much better than its current Yelp rating. It's still primarily a bar/restaurant, so when you walk in, you just sit wherever. The food was really good - the standout was the crinkle cut fries, which were big chunky fries, super crispy on the outside and soft inside. Our waitress was lovely and if we needed more of anything, she was quick to provide. Also: You can get here by car or by boat & there are some outdoor games like bags for entertainment. read more

Great little local spot! I'm a midwestern girl living in California, so this was a welcome spot while visiting friends on the lake. Servers at the bar-Toni and Brandi- were amazing and the whole bar crew was organized and had great teamwork and rapport. Plus Toni called me Hon and Darlin', and who doesn't love that? Fish fry was great- flaky cod, not greasy, and a good choice of 3 different potatoes as well as coleslaw and beans. Hope to make a return trip before I head back west! read more

My husband and I are local and love the wings at Sunset and have always had great service until Wednesday 1/31/24. We were treated very rudely by the bartender, Gretchen. We counted 7 people at the bar so they weren't that busy. She didn't even acknowledge us until 5-10 minutes after we sat down. We ordered a soda and a tap beer. she proceeded to chit chat with 3 fellows sitting to our left and asked if they needed refills on their drinks and served them and proceeded to take others food orders. We politely asked if we could at least get our drinks and her comment to us was, "yeah, the tap beer is way over there", (at the other end of the bar). I then asked the gentleman next to me if I could just glance at his menu to see the sauces for the wings. She looked at me and rudely said, " I thought you didn't want a menu". I explained that I just wanted to look at the wing sauces. Gretchen proceeded to take others refill drink orders and totally ignored our order. We decided to get up and leave and she sarcastically said as we were walking out, " have a good night". Being a local, the best reviews are word of mouth and you can bet I will be letting other locals know to not go to Sunset if this woman is bartending. Ordered carry out and they messed up my order. When I called, they offered to give me the item they forgot and nothing for the inconvenience. I spoke the manager and owner, and both said "it's a busy Friday night and we don't have time to talk with you, you either come back and get the item or have a good night." We were in the area and needed to kill some time before we met up with the rest of our family/party, and before the trip I had researched places to get a beer at and I figured this was perfect for its location and the fact that it was open at the time we needed it to be. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular, which worked in our favor, so keeping an open mind is the name of the game, especially during adventures. We strolled in on a Friday around 1:30-2pm so we were quickly greeted with stares from the locals, but we took a seat at the bar and the bartender happily handed us menus and took our drink orders. They had limited offerings on tap but just what we needed: Wisconsin beer. The Friday special is all you can eat spaghetti, but we were more in the mood for burgers and sandwiches. I ordered a cheeseburger with pepper jack and my lady ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. Our bartender thanked us for the order, and then headed to the kitchen to make the two dishes which was pretty cool; completed the idea of a nice small-town feel. The building itself is dated, but that may be what adds to its charm. They also have pool and video slot machines (comes complete with an old man changing seats every five minutes) a nice patio/dock area and plenty of televisions. What I really liked is the fact that they have their own dock, so you can arrive by boat if you want to cross the lake for a cold one. I didn't realize how close the bar was to our spot until I was out kayaking and saw their gazebo; I could have almost swum there. Of course I would have to be pretty desperate for a beer at that point, and then I would have some problems I would need to get help for... But overall this place served the purpose and made for a nice, cozy place to relax and pass the time. If I find myself in the area again I'm certainly stopping by. read more

Walked in everyone just looked at us. Finally my husband approached a waitress who said we could sit outside but you have to order at the bar. He had to ask for menus - she never brought them out to us. Have no idea about the food because we left. Got the feeling this is a good place for locals but not welcoming for tourists. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE. The 2 males on the patio bringing out food has the worse attitude ever. One of them worse glasses. They yelled at us that they were bringing our dressing when we simply asked for it and never even brought them out. Not to mention the one in glasses threw our food on the table and walked away. This has to be one of, if not the worst, dining experiences of my life. We used to come to this "bar" as kids. Since coming up to the lake ownership has changed and so has anything that was good about the place. Ownership is absolutely brutal as is their customer service. Food prices are extremely over priced and I can't express enough how poor their service is (it is hard to believe that it could be more off tilt from their prices but it is, their ownership is flat out nasty). I would recommend many other places in the area in a heartbeat! If there was an option for negative stars, this would be it. So sad what has become of such a great place. read more

I like to support local business as often as possible, I live in the Lake Wisconsin area. Sunset Harbor is located in a beautiful setting, was disappointed however, in the Friday Night fish. The fish was not very tasty (both grilled & battered) nor all you can eat. Little variation on the potato choices (waffle, sweet potato, or beer battered fries). For the same price $13.95, I could've went nearby or a few miles down the road to their more popular counterparts & gotten all you can eat, salad bar, & au gratins. My suggestions; work on improving your beer batter for the fish, & seasoning of the grilled. Think about all you can eat & a few more potato choices. Baked beans were excellent though! read more

I have an out-of-state, MN ID. Rather than the bartender (who we later found out was the manager), telling me she was going to get a book to look up the ID or get a second opinion, she blatantly said "Is this you," "just so you guys knows, if you're using a fake ID, you will be the ones who get in trouble." A great place and service to match. We are only really summer customers. We travel by boat and usually there are 2 or 3 boats in our neighborhood that all head out together. The stars are for the service. Friday night blue gill we would never order again. Normally we would just pay and not go back. This is not how I feel about this place. So I thought I would share with the lady that is an owner about our food experience. She was not happy and said if you would have told me before you paid I would not have charged you (not happy with me). She is missing the point. It is not about paying. What a terrible experience I had recently on July 5th. O.K., it was a busy Saturday after the Holiday so maybe staff the place a little better. Bartendress was grouchy, grouchy, grouchy. We had to bus our own table, get our own drinks and ask for menus and then provide the order to Mrs. Grouchy. Tried to order a burger medium rare but forget that. I got a blank stare from Mrs. Grouchy. I asked to run a tab for the first round of drinks but was sternly rebuked with a "NO!" I hope the locals get better treatment for loyalty. I witnessed the next two parties get the same crappy treatment as me so I didn't feel as bad. I put myself in Mrs. Grouchy's shoes and would have relished the chance to work at a fast pace and get some great tips. I feel bad now that I even tipped at all. read more

My personsal favorites are the reuben sandwich( one of the best on the lake), the wings and the crab dip! Stopped in for refreshments and munchies yesterday on the boat. Keep in mind we stopped coming here over a year ago because of rude staff, service and patrons. But my husband wanted to give it another try. Much to our great surprise the new owners have really started to clean it up, food was great, service is awesome and staff very fun and friendly. Sue made the best Effen brand Cucumber/Jalepino drink! New on the menu and let me say "very refreshing" one of our new favorites. Lots of dinner specials during the week. Sunset is a great place to stop and have a cocktail/beer and some pretty darn good bar food. We would go there more often, but the attitude of the servers leave something to be desired. Not every server, but I'm assuming it is the bar manager, as she is always there and seems to be running the place. She is very unfriendly and seems quite bossy to the other workers. We've been there about 4 times in the past year and is the same every time. We would go there more often if it weren't for the unfriendly bartender. I don't like posting negative feedback, but it's happened multiple times and when we've talked about Sunset to others, we get the same feedback. read more

I am very much a local to the area around the area and I have been to Sunset dozens of times for all different occasions. I have been there both with my family and with my friends as well. The big difference in the experience, however, depends on how old you are and who you are with. I am 20 years old and I am also a server in the Wisconsin Dells for three years so I have experienced people from a variety of backgrounds as appose the the bartenders at Sunset, who mainly tend to local customers. I know what I am talking about when I say that, depending on who you are with and what you are ordering, will determine your experience at this establishment. When I go to Sunset with my family, the service is great and the food is fantastic. I have nothing against their food; it is some of the best I get from any local establishment. However, when I go with friends, that is where the problem for this Bar "and Grill" arises. I will recall my most recent visit. There was seven of us that walked through the front door. All of us were bigger gentlemen and all of us were 20 years of age (for the record we know we are not of drinking age obviously). We order our food from the bar and order a pitcher of Mt Dew and water. The bartender makes our drinks and, as we walk to go sit down, rudely says "Hey I don't deliver drinks" When I had just watched her take a beer to another gentleman. We gladly took our drinks and sat down. The wings arrived a short time after that and we all finish the drinks and the wings. I went up to the bar to get another pitcher of Mt Dew and the bartender rolls her eyes at me, fills the pitcher, and walks away without smiling or saying a word to me. After that we wait for her to ask if we want reorders on the wings and she never does so we leave. I left her a 15% tip for all of us and I actually hoped the table next to us took the money off the table before she did. I give Sunset 4 stars when you are with your family but if you are with friends and not ordering "bar drinks" expect a rude, incompetent bartender. read more

Poor service. Went in for dinner around 7pm on a Monday after the attendance drawing. They had 3 bartender/servers and only 35-40 people in the entire bar/restaurant. Waited at bar +15min. to order drinks while family found table. Bartender served all locals including people that came in after us first. Once they finally got to me, they had me get IDs for the rest of my family at the table (all of them 35+ years old). As I have bartended for years, I understand. Did as they asked. While making drinks they used a pre mix for old fashioned which I assume is just bitters and sugar water so they don't muddle anything as old fashioned's are traditionally made. We then had to find menus for ourself. After waiting for a server for 20+ mins we were then told we had to order from the bar if we were going to sit outside. Family decided to move from outside patio to inside because of the service issues. Server than took another 20+min to come take our order. Got our appetizers 15 min later and our dinner 45min later. Kitchen served tables that came in after us first. So they only tailor to people they know. Had to go to bar on multiple occasions to ask for another drink or something they forgot with dinner. Server did check on table but only after I had just got up to ask the bartender for other things. By the time we left almost 2hrs later. They had 10 people left in the place and had practically ignored us. I work as a bartender and server and have done so in the Sauk area for some time. I was very patient and understanding for the first hour but after all the issues...I felt the need to write this post. This is probably the worst service I've experienced in the area. I did NOT tip and was very disappointed. Had they provided some level of decent service I would have gladly given at least 20%...I would only stop here for a beer during slow time if you know the bartender by name... read more

Went on July 6 for taco Tuesday's. Ordered the taco salad and it came with only about 3 table spoons of meat! Another table sent theirs back and had to ask for more meat (wish I knew that before I ate mine). The soft tacos also had very little meat in them. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it came with NO bacon. The waitress was ok but not great. They will NOT take the restaurant.com certificates. I was told they were not getting paid for them and the owner also made the statement "the locals are abusing them" not sure what that means but I received mine as a gift!
