Came here last night with a party of 8. Ordered 2 rounds of drinks, multiple apps and entrees. My husband and I both ordered the scallops served with mashed potatoes. He took his first bite and found a large piece of plastic wrap mixed in with the potatoes. We told our waitress immediately who took the piece of plastic, looked shocked and said nothing. Never came back to apologize or offer to replace the meal. Several minutes later I pulled a smaller piece of plastic out of my mouth. Disguising. After tracking down the waitress she took it away and I had to ask if we would be charged for the meals. She acted annoyed and said no. The manager never came over. OK, we were a party of 7 on a Sat. night, but had reserved weeks ahead. Service was completely incompetent and the band was way too loud. Our primary server was quite young and seemed new to her job and completely overwhelmed. Our drinks took forever to arrive, then the entrees started coming before the apps! We told them to take the entrees away until after we'd had our apps, which was a big mistake because then we got NOTHING for quite some time. The food, once we finally got it, was very good, but the total confusion and chaos was almost comical. Amazing views! Super amazing appetizers (especially on more of the raw seafood variety... and if that is all you are into - then you have found heaven. That is what we were looking for, so this place was great for us. HOWEVER, for normal people - you will find this annoying: 1. Awkwardly located, and you don't realize how awkwardly located it is until you get there - I wish they made signs that gave you instructions 2. The main menu entrees were super boring, that is why we skipped them. Even if they were great - my thoughts are seriously, this is as boring as an applebee's menu. 3. Staff was nice and fast too us, but they just looked grumpy and did not want to be there. 4. I brought a group of 14 women for lunch. The food was OK to Good, but that wasn't the problem. When I made the reservation, I specified that we would require separate checks. They said there would be "No problem." But when it came time to pay, they would only give us one check, saying 14 checks were too much trouble. I asked the women to figure out what they owed, based on the menu price, tax and tip. It took another woman and me an hour (with a calculator) to work it out and we were a couple of dollars short, which I made up. I run a luncheon group that goes to a different restaurant each month. I've been doing this for six years. Every restaurant we dine at gives us separate checks. I see no reason why Sunset Grille can't do the same. We will not return. read more

You can't beat the setting when the weather is nice and overall the food is good but it's expensive and the service can be very slow. Drink service is especially frustrating which is surprising since the place is mostly one large bar. The baby back ribs and the kids burger are the best values and very good. The fried shrimp and linguini and clam sauce are also good but the portions are small for the price. On nice days, expect large crowds, loud music and slow service. read more

Water tends to have particles/bugs since they keep it outside--check before you drink. Service teetered--waiter was very nice and accommodating but we didn't see much of him. Busboy was overly anxious to remove dishes from our table, when they were still full of food. The second time he tried to take my boyfriend's dish away (which still had 2 of the 5 scallops on it), my bf said he was still working on it, and the busboy sighed long and loud as he walked away. Great venue, food and service. We've never ordered off the regular menu and always gone for the specials. Specials have included seafood over linguini, a captains fried seafood platter, tuna tartare and steamers. All excellent! I suggest the manager look at how many people order off the menu and consider some seasonal upgrades. The major fly in the ointment continues year after year to be the hostess staff. This gauntlet is very customer unfriendly, couldn't care less about the painful experience that they put people through and are barely organized enough to get their job done. They don't have a clue on wait times. No tables on the water can be reserved but when you ask for an open table on the water they tell you that "it's reserved". Once you get over this wall of ineptitude the experience is a good one. One star off for the constant hassle on arrival. read more

It is a seafood restaurant with no presumption beyond serving well flavored and cooked seafood. It does this very well. I decided to graze, because my decision making got bogged down on the first page of their menu. I ordered a Maryland Crab. It was a generous portion that was reasonably well flavored. My preference would have been for more seasoning and for more evidence of crab meant. I also ordered a marinated shrimp, scallop and fish dish. It was also generous and surprisingly tender. Mrs. Sultan ordered fish and chips. The fish was cod with a lightly fried panko batter and French Fried Potatoes. The French Fries were a disappointment. We have been visiting Sunset Grille once or twice a summer. We will continue until a restaurant of higher quality opens. read more

food unfortunately did not warrant the high cost for meals. technically a place for people who have boats in the boat yard to eat. service was ok, could have been much better for the cost. because we had a party of 6, an automatic 20% gratuity was added to our bill, which I understood at the time of payment. some how my charge was correct and then 3 days later it changed by additional $100.00. I called the restaurant to get it credited back, since I didn't authorize it, and 3 days later, $100.00 was credited to my credit card with no explanation or call for the error. We have been to this place many times over the years. It's always been one of the best places for a cold drink and a great view. The food has never been as great as the view. We went the first Thursday in August 2017 and got there around 7:15. We were told it was a 45 minute wait for 2 people which was fine. It didn't look that busy. One annoying thing they do now is allow the right of the fence to be first come first served and they don't take reservations. It took 40 minutes or so to be seated. The service was bad. I never had the chance to order a second drink. My salmon was over cooked and the mashed potatoes and spinach were cold. We were never asked how our meal was. Wife's scallops were overcooked. Things were never this bad last year or in years prior. Next time I will grab dinner somewhere else in SoNo and come here for drinks and watch the sunset. This is my favorite spot,But was very disappointed last night and it was my Birthday dinner. It was a very Hot night which wasn't their fault so we ended up inside where there were so many bugs, Flies/Mosquitos that were biting the whole time that made it miserable to eat. We spent $100 on two drinks and two appetizer sized meals. The drinks are tiny, bland, watered down and $13/each.The service and seafood dish was ok but the pasta dish was flavorless and child sized portions for $36. It was also borderline inedible - how can you screw up pasta? You can honestly get much better food and drinks at Ripka's across the street. I have been going to the Sunset Grill for the last three plus years. It a nice little hide away, next to Calf's Pastor Beach in Norwalk, CT, tucked into the Norwalk marina side. It draws a crowd from the rich boaters, bikers, to the average Joe who is looking for a nice place to enjoy the scenery and spend some time relaxing and enjoying the sites. Since it just opened for the season, I was excited to go back and have a nice time listening to the two man band, having a nice lunch, and, enjoying a few beverages before the start of another work week. Depending on who you get as a server, makes all difference for your lunch at the Sunset. I landed up getting a server that I recognized from last year. This person should find a new job, since she is not a happy server, and rushes you out the door. Unfortunately, it's always been a bad experience with her, and this visit was no different than last year. The food today was mediocre, not very good at all. The fish tacos were horrible; and the blackened chicken sandwich came in at a close second. I noticed many other tables just picking their food; I can see that they were not happy with their orders. It's a great location, excellent atmosphere, fun, and, the band makes it relaxing and entertaining, I hope they do a better job with the food, and, hire people who want to be there to server and make your experience fun and worth the visit. As of today, they lack the personal attention and the menu and chefs need an overhaul. I will try this place again, but, I'm starting to lose hope. It's not that difficult to prepare sandwiches, and, for the price, it's been a real disappointment. I can see this place overtime starting to lose their customer base if they don't start improving their service and quality of food. Brought my family of six here on a Saturday, we shared a couple orders of the shrimp and oysters and caprese salad, by Sunday night/Monday morning all 6 of us were very sick for 3 days. We live in two separate households so the only thing in common was the one meal we all shared. I called the city health department and after several days of interviews and investigation it was clear where this food poisoning originated from (verifiable fact). I called the restaurant to let them know what happened, the first time they put me on hold and said I'd get a call back. No one called back. I called again the next day and got a manager on the phone, he said it was probably the shrimp. He took my information and said the owner would call me back. Owner never called me. Seasonal staff couldn't care less about customers, while management must be using as a tax loss write off, as they seem set on alienating locals. I live a few blocks away, but the menu is switched so frequently as far as when lunch and brunch are offered that I've had to walk away more times than I've eaten. Important because the dinner menu is way overpriced and limited. They stop serving food at a random hour each day and cut off lunch at their whim leaving locals fuming.. Again their attitude is "so what - we don't need business". This even though tables are usually empty, even during peak times and season - when other competent area restaurants are packed. If you do manage to find an hour where they lower themselves to provide food it will be a bus boy or maybe the owners nephew held back from graduation serving you. They would have closed years ago due to being the worst run restaurant on the east coast, but the great location and actually decent food saves their demise (I feel bad for the chef - he may want to find a real restaurant). My wife runs a prime NYC restaurant and we always get a kick watching the kids out of summer school detention try to run a restaurant. Tragic. I keep praying chef Ramsey will bring kitchen nightmares to fix this place. read more

We just returned from a very pleasant lunch at the Sunset Grille on a perfect weather day, not too hot, not too cold, not too windy...you get the idea. We were seated as we requested in the sunny area and soaked up the sun and atmosphere. It was pretty busy for a Thursday afternoon. I read other reviews about the food but what we had was fabulous and fresh. I asked if the lobster salad could be put on greens and they were accommodating enough to do that. My husband had a fried fish sandwich that was generous and he said it was quite tasty. I would certainly recommend it for lunch, we'll have to return so we can sample the dinner menu. read more
