After 2+ years of looking for just the right truck, we found it at Sunset Ford of Waterloo. Kudos to Mark Springer, Manager for hiring Julian Henson, a top notch Closer, that's right, Closer! Unlike other salesmen at the countless dealerships whom we met over the past two years, Julian hopped in the back seat like one of the family. During our test drive, Julian and Kent talked about the various trucks they both have had throughout their driving years, while at the same time, never missing a beat answering all of my important questions, such as "what's this knob do", "where's the USB port", "where do I control the temperature on my side", and many more. It was as though we were at a family reunion, and these two cousins who hadn't seen each other for years, were catching up on old times! I'm so grateful for Julian. Julian is a down to earth young man who honestly cared that what we were looking at, is what we really wanted. Julian went the extra mile to ensure we drove away without any regrets. Julian, being new to Waterloo, helped pass the time while we waited for Bill, by asking about the different golf courses, fishing holes, and local events. Together, we googled Ann Briar, Mystic Oaks, Acorns, Trapper Falls, as well as the local nightlife uptown. Yes Waterloo has come a long way since I moved here in 1969, and Julian Henson is a wonderful, welcome addition to our town. Sales dept was great Every time I call to schedule an appointment for my wife's truck it is a hassle with the lady working the service dept.... Constant attitude and back talk from a "professional" After spending 60k on a truck and countless others in the past this will be the last one. I'm not going to spoken down to and dis-respected over warranty work on a new vehicle.....even a simple oil change is a hassle to get scheduled with this individual. Such a shame for a small dealership to treat people this way, i thought it would be different staying local but I was wrong. read more

Buyer Beware: A Cautionary Tale! I wanted to share my recent negative experience with Waterloo Sunset Ford to help others avoid the same frustration and deceptive sales practices. I purchased a new car from them at the end of last year, and when I was uncertain about going through with the purchase, the manager 'sweetened the deal' with a promise of free car washes for as long as I owned the vehicle. I didn't get this agreement in writing because I mistakenly thought they were a trustworthy dealership. I didn't take advantage of this offer until recently, when I went in to get a code for the car wash as directed at the time of purchase. To my surprise, they informed me that the policy had changed, and they would no longer provide that service. This was part of the deal when I bought the car, so changing it now feels unfair and fraudulent. The manager acknowledged that he had promised the car washes but said he couldn't do anything because the decision came from his boss. I reached out to his boss as well, and he wouldn't honor it either. While it may seem insignificant to argue over some car washes, it's really about principles. I'm not asking for anything more or anything different than what was originally promised; I just want the dealership to keep its word. I hope saving a couple of dollars on car washes was worth tarnishing their reputation and losing a loyal Ford buyer. After posting about this incident on social media, I received at least two dozen comments or messages from people who reported that the same thing had happened to them at this dealership over the last five or six years. This is not an isolated event. They have been practicing this scam for several years now! read more

Terrible customer service. Walked in a few weeks ago for a headlight. No one was at desk and this lady named Lonnie told me to move as she was helping someone. I didn't see anyone but moved aside. When it came to me, she just said I would have to leave my vehicle there overnight for over $200. It was 2 in the afternoon. Mechanics were walking around not doing anything. I just said ok and left. I called and asked to speak to manager. No call backs for two days. I called back and Lonnie answered. And her response was "oh i know who this is". When I asked to be transferred, she hung up on me. I called back. I finally got a phone call from a lady named Jen who said she would look into it. I provided her with everything. Nothing ever came of this. I have never been treated so rudely by this Lonnie lady. I personally know a salesperson there and he said she is terrible to work with and no one likes her. Had a conversation with a neighbor last night and he had a terrible experience as well. Do not go here. I don't know why she stays employed there. read more

Terrible Service department.. Service manager didnt even listen to the issue i was experiencing on my Ford.. But rather shoved in my face the $200 diagnostic charge 5 times before listening to the issue i have been experiencing.. No empathy what so ever for their customers... Their technician's did the diagnostic, and the "issue" they identified was not even related to the issue i was experiencing, but was rather some preventative maintenance. In which I repaired myself... I still have the original issue with my Vehicle.. I now paid $200 for a diagnostic on my vehicle that this dealership was not able to identify and will be taking to a different shop to get identified and fixed.. Ill will not be taking either of my Ford vehicles to this dealership ever again. read more

I called them for a warrantied key fob that is 5 months old with a 2 year warranty. it starts the truck, but no longer locks and unlocks. I have another chipped key that starts my truck. lonnie pope, the service manager, said no warranty when it had a two year warranty. I talked the sales manager who is over her and then they had me come so them could look at it. Lonnie came back and said my ignition switch needed replaced at $800. I knew better so I called four other ford dealers' service departments including their sunset hills sunset ford location (mother store). All four refuted what she said without knowing about the first false diagnosis from Lonnie pope. My truck starting with two keys also does. She took a legitimate warranty issue and tried to lie her way into an $800 sale. I wish I would have seen their low stars here before I went. this cost them a repair for my heater blower that she nows i need repaired. Don't go here. The bbb and yelp reviews of their service center is pathetic. I'll never go back again read more

I sent my vehicle to Sunset ford of waterloo because i had a wrench pop up on my dash. With my vehicle being only 2 years old and having only 26000 miles I figured that this should be covered under my basic manufactures warranty. I called Sunset ford of St louis and was told I could be put on a waitlist or I could take my vehicle to Sunset ford of Waterloo. Needing the vehicle I decided to have the vehicle towed to the Waterloo location because the Code that I could see on the app said that the vehicle had a Powertrain malfunction/ Reduced Power. When the vehicle was received at the shop they looked at the vehicle and couldn't find any issues with the vehicle a second technician they said that it looks like something was spilled on the gear shift and nothing was spilled on the gear shift. I spoke with another dealership and was told that it would be submitted under no issues found and I wouldn't have to make a payment for a diagnostic charge instead they charged me $206 for a diagnostic charge and weren't at all willing to submit the request to ford. Seems like Sunset ford doesn't want to take care of their loyal customers. I have bought 2 vehicles from sunset ford and am in the market for a truck and will be sure look for a different dealership in my area! read more

We have had nothing but trouble with this business. We had a water pump replaced on our Dodge truck and in little over a year we had to have the water pump replaced again. We had a wheel bearing replaced on our Ford Focus and it to had be replaced again in less than a month. Sure they have warranty but it is time specific and it only includes the parts not labor. Labor is $106 an hour. In response to your reply you did not mention a warranty and I would have not been $0 out of pocket when the labor charge was $l06 an hour that was not covered under the warranty. This whole incident could have been avoided if the repair was done properly in the first place. read more

Our salesman Kyle Brewer was awesome. We were close to a deal but it came down to our trade in. The manager Mark Springer evaluated our 2016 town and country mini van. After driving it, he came back and tried deducting for "missing a seat" which is a stow and go and he had no idea what that was. He also said our starter button was loose but it is removable so you could also start with a key. He had no knowledge of that either. When we questioned his ability to appraise a vehicle he knew nothing about he became agitated. He talked down to my wife. Very sarcastic. We gathered our kids and walked out with Kyle who repeatedly apologized for him. When we got to our van it " conveniently "wouldn't start. Josh Evans, another salesman took me to get a battery to see if that was the problem. While we were gone, manager Mark Springer yelled out to my wife and the other salesman Kyle "I guess we can deduct $400 for your vehicle now and laughed. Mark Springer is very unprofessional. I wish the nice salesmen welll but I don't think they can succeed with a manager like that. Stay away from Waterloo at all costs. read more
