One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. The way I was treated felt openly racist and humiliating. We were craving gyros. When we searched in our area...lo and behold, Sunset Bistro popped up. I've gone by here twice a day for years. We didn't know what we've been missing. We ordered takeout during Phase 2 social distancing. When we arrived, they had good signage limiting patrons and excellent food safety rating. When hubs went in, our order wasn't quite ready, so he came out to wait. The owner popped out when it was ready - thank you. The gyro plate was soooo good. Generous portions of lamb, lots of pita, both tzatziki and hummus on the side. I opted for no fries, and was given a generous salad with a delicious range dressing. Portions were good sized. If I could leave no stars, I would. While I'm not familiar with Romanian culture, both the fellow who came out of the kitchen were extremely short and rude. My wife looked up gyros in Renton and came up with this place and Gyro Makers. Since this one was close to home, we figured we would try. I was particularly excited as they have more items on their menu, not just gyros Not my thing, but my wife loves them. We walked in at about 1:15 this afternoon. The women barked at us, "you got reservation?" No "hello; how are you; what can I do for you." We said no; she said "have to have reservation," and disappeared. We were confused, and we waited. As it wasn't busy at all, we didn't understand. When she passed us again, I asked if we could get seated since it wasn't busy. "No!" Maybe later." That's when the fellow came out and said the no reservation thing. My wife said this was not stated on your website. He just turned and back into the kitchen. I grew up on a restaurant family, so I know crazybusy, and this wasn't it. Maybe they just lack communication skills, but, dang. We just didn't understand the rudeness and unwillingness to talk to us. Needless to say, we went to Gyro Makers in lower Renton. Had an absolutely amazing experience and the food was so fresh and delicious, with a super nice fellow behind the counter. After a long day if hiking we we're in need of food and my friends, who are Romanian, wanted to check this place out. I never had Romanian food before so I was going in blind, but my friend says that the food here is very authentic and that it's as good as it get. We ordered the three soups they had which was the tripe, meatball, and smoked pork. We also had an order of pork stew and cabbage rolls. The soups came out first and after sampling all of them, I couldn't decide what my favorite was. They were all unique in their own way. The tripe soup was creamy and rich, the meatball soup was tart, and the pork was heart and savory. The meat was very tender and tasty as well. The soups also came with bread for you to dip with. The cabbage rolls was super tasty, it was soft and tender and flavorful. The pork stew was similar. It came with pork, liver and sausages. Each of those dish also came with a side of polenta and the polenta was very different from what Im use to. They are thicker and stickier. Everything tasted really good. Portion was good, service was good, price was good. Overall, I would definitely come back to try other things here read more

I am 100% sure that I was just food poisoned from here. The owners were so rude to my 7 year old daughter who needed to use the restroom. The sign that you had to be a customer to use the restroom so we purchased food and then we were refused the bathroom. I was upset, but paid for my food to go since they had already started cooking and now I've been sick for 3 days. This meal was the only meal that I ate separately from my family and I'm the only one sick, and again I only bought it so my miserable little could go to the bathroom:( They were so worried about Covid guidelines that maybe forgot basic food handlers safety???? Waited an hour for Doordash to deliver before I called the restaurant. When I told the gentleman at the restaurant that I hadn't received the food, he very abruptly said, it's not my fault! I had your order done in 15 minutes! Very rude to me. Not his fault here. But the delivery driver brought the food but never knocked or rang the doorbell. It sat out there in the cold. The order was wrong. I asked for a hummus salad and only received a scoop of hummus. When I called the restaurant, nobody picked up. I tried many times. The restaurant said my name was displayed on his phone, so he knew which order was mine. I believe he didn't answer my call because he knew it was me calling back (caller ID). We have long been looking for that perfect Gyro joint in our area and sadly have not been able to find the perfect one. Until now. Tried Sunset Bistro which is run by a Romanian family. You have 2 choices for your gyro. Lamb or chicken. I went lamb, wife went chicken. The presentation is fantastic . It's almost like when you order fajitas at a Mexican restaurant. The pita bread comes on the side and all ingredients are separate. You have the opportunity to make your own gyro. Even the Tzatziki sauce comes on the side. Fries are covered with feta cheese. This gyro platter was everything I could have asked for and most importantly tasted great! We will be frequenting this place for our gyro fix! read more

On our previous visit, there was an extra charge for a slice of bread that we thought was included as part of the meal. This time, neither of us got any bread but there was a charge for it on the bill. I complained, and the server said he "fixed it" Later, after we had left, I noticed that there was now a "Surcharge" item on the bill. If you're not a fan of this "monkey business", stay away. This place caught my eye because I had never heard of a Romanesc Restaurant before, or even knew what that meant. After looking at the reviews I had to give it a shot and I am SO glad I did! Four of us tried the place for the first time and we're all very impressed! We ordered the Eggplant salad, oven roasted lamb, Tochirura pork and the cabbage rolls. The lamb and pork fell apart, the eggplant salad was tangy and delicious and the cabbage rolls were my favorite of all of it. We even ordered crepes and baklava for dessert and they were great. The waitress needs a major attitude adjustment unless you are okay with authentic in Romania crappy service. The food item prices are steep for what you get (expect to pay upwards of 50 for a appetizer, entree, dessert and a drink, food quantity's are small). Summary: if you want Romanian feed and cannot cook it or get it from someone who knows how to cook it, this is a place you can get a sample of some Romanian food types. Would I return here? After ordering our food, the server (only employee I saw) came over seldom. We waited for drink refills quite a while. Additionally, the food was a) Not quite what the menu stated. b) A fairly small portion. I wasn't quite so concerned about the food being slightly different than menu as the substitution was something I liked better anyway, but it would have been good manners for the server to mention this. A pleasant and cozy spot to enjoy what seems to be the only authentic Romanian food one can get in the Seattle area. Tried the meatball soup (ciorbă de perioare) and cabbage rolls (sarmale) on two separate visits, and the skinless sausages (mici) on both. All were delicious, served hot and seasoned perfectly. What was initially an excursion to try out Romanian food cooked by a professional in order to better understand how to make it at home has quickly turned into a favorite spot of mine, and I'm sure to visit again for its own sake. Certainly the best spot for gyros!! I have tried many Greek places in Kent, Covington, Renton, and Seattle, and this is my new favorite spot to go. I was really excited about trying this place and wanted to love it but, I just can't. The overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke when you walk in is disgusting. No one greeted us when we walked in, I had to ask for menus and then we were seated. The food came out fast but I am confident it was reheated in the microwave by the sound of that melodious beeping coming from the kitchen...and food to follow like ten minutes later. The hummus was weirdly chunky? Not chickpea chunky but maybe defrosted, I'm not sure. The cabbage rolls were really bland and the gyro was dry as a covered bridge as my grandmother would say. The smoke continued to creep into the restaurant while we ate and we sat way in the back! I can't imagine having sat through that smell if we had been up closer to the doors. It wasn't the worst food but being surrounded by cigarette smoke billowing in through the doors is enough to not make me go back to round two. If you are looking for something good and different, you need to try Sunset Bistro. New owners and the food is good! Resembles the home cooked dishes of my Grandmother. The first meal I had was the pork schnitzel. The salad was good and the ingredients were fresh. The pork was tender and the light drizzle of sauce was the real kicker to take the taste to the next level. The next are their gyros. At first I was a bit skeptical because the presentation was different, but don't worry, the first bite of the tender lamb was amazing. Best lamb dish I have had in some time. The tzatziki sauce and the flavors in the hummus bring the dish together nicely. If the fries were fresh cut I would give it a 5. My server was Florin, who was very prompt and friendly.
