The salesman made a vague claim about an 18 month 0 interest program (they don't) but also guided me to rebates I was unaware of. (Other salesmen offered no information on rebates). He also was very careful to only sell me what I needed (unlike other heat pump sales people) which resulted in a lower bid than others. The technicians were excellent. They made the process quick and easy and marked a blocked floor vent for me that had been covered so I could cut it out (no extra charge). They put the heat pump right where I wanted it and it looks great. And they were happy to answer any questions. read more

Sunset Air I would avoid at all costs especially if you live on Anderson Island. I have only once before done a negative review on any company but this time I feel compelled to do so. First of all they have to take a ferry to our island which is inconvenient for most businesses from off the island we understand that. The issue stems from their charges they use to come to the island. They charge a flat rate of $250.00 to come here for every customer they have that day they will only come over when they 2 or more appointments. The standard going rate from every other contractor is the cost of the ticket which is $33.00 or up to $75.00 per customer. We had them come and service our 5 year old mini-split it wasn't cooling back in mid September of 2025. We are snow birds and left the island the week after they were here to go to AZ for the winter. We came back on Memorial Day 2026 when about 3 weeks later we tried to use the AC but it still wasn't working. We called Sunset Air back to have fix what they hadn't fixed before. Their charge for the repair in September was $1,219.00. When we called them back they said it would be another $250.00 for the ferry ride plus a $250.00 service charge just to look at it! The repairman was average at best the 1st time he didn't even put it back together with all the screws I had to do it myself. Sunset Air trumpt up charges for a 30 min job. I needed the condensation pump tubing re-routed. I live less than 2 miles from Sunset Air, here in Lacey, WA. The workers arrived at my house at 11:45 a.m., put on jumpers grabbed the tubing, and crawled down under my house and set the tubing. They crawled out, took off jumpers and closed the back of the truck. They were under my house for 20 minutes. They departed at 12:15 p.m. The total for that was $243.91. I called the office and spoke with the section manager, he explained that my charges included the men loading their work truck with supplies & the cost of driving to my house. I said that the company should be covering all work before arriving to my house. I then said ok, thank you. I called the CEO, and explained my frustration about a 30 minute job, less than 2 miles from them costing $243.91. He said they were union workers. my thought was that doesn't mean anything to me or the work performed at my house. I kept it to myself. So, i told the CEO that i had been a loyal customer for 35 yrs and i was sorely disappointed The CEO said, I will charge you for only a service call + tax. That changed the total to $32.00 less. I will not be using Sunset Air in the future. read more

We moved into an 85 year old house in Olympia in July. It wasn't obvious until winter arrived that about 1/3 of the house had no heat (the fact that it wasn't mentioned by the inspector is a matter for another review). We decided to at least get a quote on adding heat and we were pleasantly surprised by the reasonable amount quoted by Britton from Sunset Air after a thorough on-site inspection. We got it scheduled for two weeks later. Tyler and Chris (?) arrived exactly on schedule and were cheerful and understanding about everything, including our occasionally obnoxious dog. In the course of performing the quoted work, I asked for several changes which added to the job. I expected to be charged, but the final bill was for the exact amount of the estimate. I should also add that the office personnel were very friendly and helpful every time I talked to them. We now have a house that is warm throughout, and Sunset Air has a loyal customer. read more

i recently installed heat pump furnace and a/c as well as a hot water heater with Sunset. i worked with Jesse Cherry and the whole process was seamless. this despite the fact that I am in another state and this was all handled as if i were there at the house in Olympia. All options were explained clearly and the final project accomplished exactly as Jesse estimated. The installers were pleasant, competent, and cleaned up the project site. We purchased a Heating and Air conditioning unit approximately 2 years ago...there is a warranty. It is now "leaking" solution, and not working. The first employee they sent out stated it had a faulty part.. and charged us $250.00 for that diagnosis. Sunset then called and stated that the employee did not know what he was doing. Then sent out a second employee who diagnosed that it is leaking. It will cost another $1700 to fix it. We are calling the Attorney General. read more

I have a carrier electric furnace and heat pump that was installed by sunset air in 2022. The quality of the install was poor as the furnace was installed in the attic but none of the ductwork was sealed to prevent air in the attic from being pulled through the house. My HP has also stopped working due to low refrigeration. This tells me that there installers cannot properly seal the lines. This caused my HP to short cycle and possibly damage the unit. I would highly recommend going through another company. read more

We were referred by our neighbor and now see why they recommended them. They were courteous, responsive and just all round a pleasure to do business with. We had our furnace serviced for the first time since we bought our home over 8 years ago. It was easy to make an appointment and they inquired if a new filter was needed. The tech came out and checked it over completely and even checked the thermostat and gave us new batteries. Then after he left I discovered he'd taken the old dirty filter, I'd left tossed aside, to dispose of it. I worked with Sunset Air to install a ductless mini split heat pump this summer. It was great to work with them - their office is highly responsive and orgnanized. I was assigned a project manager who oversaw the installation, demo of the old propane unit, electrical installation and subsequent inspection (thanks Britton!!). The whole project went smoothly and everyone was really professional. (I have a log home so we had to work with some eccentricities). Today David and Bradley came as scheduled to do our duct cleaning. This is the first time we requested this service in any home we have owned. They were on time, although for some reason we were unaware of them ringing the doorbell so David called me and alerted me they were out front. David and Bradley both put on booties over their shoes (standard practice I was told) which I appreciated since we don't wear outdoor footwear in the house. David explained the service and answered the many questions my husband and I had. He also added that he could tell that we maintained our home well and would be surprised if our ducts were really dirty. David and Bradley opened up a couple of duct vents and told us that the little dust/debris at the top of the vent was easy to vacuum out ourselves or they could do it. In the end we decided to do it ourselves which saved us an unnecessary cost as no special equipment was needed. What we appreciated was the transparent honesty that was given to us. I have had sunset air instal our furnace in 2005 and paid for yearly service ever since . This year they sent someone out that left me with little confidence in his work and I expressed this to his manager. So now I have called to get information on a smart thermostat and every time I halve to leave a message (3 times) and I have yet to talk to anyone. So the temperature started dropping early October of 2019, and all of a sudden my heating vents are blowing out cold air. I have two little boys, a three year old and a 7 month old. Last night my 7 month old woke up with icey cold toes, and I had to give him a bath to keep him warm. They sent a tech out that was so afraid of dogs he wouldn't do the work, I told him when he called at 11:50 that I had dogs and that they would be crated and that they would more then likely bark, but I told him they couldn't get him or hurt him. I had to call his superior and she told me that they would send out another tech by the end of that day and that they would only charge me half the amount. Well it is 9 pm and a no show or call! Diagnosis and repair of a York NG Furnace. My Furnace was shutting down after initial start up, step 5 if you will, Having dealt with this before I knew it was the Flame sensor (system), so I replaced the the flame sensor. I also had codes for pressure switch and Lock out due to repeat start-ups. All makes sense, after I replaced the flame sensor, I was getting the same flame off after a few seconds. this made me assume it was in the Control board and maybe a relay went bad. I work out of town so had to call Sunset to get it going again. The Boys came out and confirmed, and "luckily" they had a new board at the shop. They got it out to us quickly and replaced it, as we live less than 5 miles from their shop. As far as their professionalism, work, and worthy service I am happy as my wife would have told me if she were unhappy with that, so the Lads did a good job. I assume were Polite and Professional. I expect to pay for a tradesman, as I am one myself, I am a Commercial Diver and Dive Medic, I can charge as much as $110/hr as a Dive Medic, and $120 as a Diver depending on the work. I have owned my own small business and worked 1099 as well as been on salary, I get paying a tradesman a good wage. My issue is with Sunset charging $893 for a part that costs $150-$200 depending on if it is OEM or Generic. Even if that included an hour for install (That did not happen), the Lad was out in under an hour for the whole call. I expected the Emergency call out (rather than heat with a Mr Buddy while we wait for 10 days to fit the schedule) of $250+- ($285 actual) and can tolerate that. This Control Board Mark up, was in my humble opinion, RIDICULOUS. I should have just bought the usual suspects and replaced them all for way less than the price Sunset charged me for that one part. I've not been home to take a pic of the new part, but will update later. We have had a heat pump and a natural gas generator installed by Sunset air in the last 2 months. We have had excellent service and installation by professionals who are upfront with problems, if they occur, which they did, and do their best to come back and get the job finished on our schedule. The heat pump and electronic air filter works well, and we have to see about the generator with the automatic transfer switch. If we get snow and lose power in our rural area, I'll update this review with the results. The only concern I have with Sunset Air is that they tend to be more expensive than the other companies that do the same job, but they do not sub-contract as they have all of the trades in-house. Even though they are more expensive than other companies, I have had other companies give me bids and they do say the Sunset Air is expensive, but they praise the work that they do as first-class. Beware the Maintenance Service Agreement when buying/selling your house. When we bought our home last year, we were excited to see that our seller had prepaid for the annual maintenance for $180 for our first year of home ownership, which Sunset called an investment. The owner had the unit serviced right as we moved in, so we didn't think anything of it for a year. Well, then we realized that agreement has a back page, that says we needed to call Sunset within 15 days of ownership and pay an additional $25 to transfer the maintenance that the previous owner paid for. I'm very disappointed that Sunset took the full $180, put it in their pocket and said to us today, they'd be happy to service our equipment, the same equipment they serviced last year, for an additional $200. So take this review for what it's worth, and if you're thinking about signing the maintenance agreement, better think twice. It's a good source of income for Sunset. read more

We had Sunset Air do an air conditioner, furnace check up 2 weeks ago. Jeremy came out and did the work. He also reprogrammed our thermostat, which I was not aware of. It was a day that was 80+ degrees out and when I came home it was very warm in the house. Our thermostat is now not working properly. I called this AM at 9 and was told that Jeremy was who could help and he was busy with his schedule but would contact me as soon as he has a free moment. I called again at 12:30 and was told the same thing. They told me just to wait, he will get back to me. I did explain the situation and what was going on. It is 6:30, Friday night before a 3 day weekend. Guess we won't get any help now. Why he chose to reprogram my thermostat is beyond me. It was working great before. I am now very irritated and need to start calling again Tuesday morning to try to get Jeremy to return my call so we can get this working again. read more

New to the PNW and not much to go on, I looked around the area and settled on using Sunset to add AC to existing furnace. Exceptionally professional group that is there before and after the install. Sales guys and installers very professional, prompt and courteous. The work looks top notch and very clean. It's obvious these folks have pride in their work. Checked back several times to make sure everything was to my satisfaction as well as a one year tune up. I did have an issue that developed over time. It had nothing to do with the install work. Sunset diligently worked through the issue to ensure it was resolved completely. There was no additional money to be made but they kept at it to make it right for me. Service after the install can just as important than the initial work. Knowing that if it is a legitimate concern, they will do whatever it takes. Excellent service. I lost power during this recent outage ,but luckily I do have an automatic standby generator. The problem surfaced , when I had some very basic questions such as - How long can it run continuously without damaging it? I was afraid it would overheat, stop etc. Would it restart if I turned it off for a while? It is not unusual for my neighborhood to have brief periodic outages of usually 24 hours or less but this was going on 48 hours. I checked the owners manual - no answers , i tried to look on Carrier website but internet service was down. I called Sunset Air and eventually spoke to Keith Stottlemyre who patiently answered all my questions . He later came out and showed me how to check the oil level ( yes you do need to do this if the generator has been running for a while!) he turned off generator and added oil and then had me show him that I could check oil level. It had burned oil ( it had been serviced fairly recently so was full, prior to outage). Left me remainder of oil container and long nosed funnel. I was confident after his teaching about my generator and its needs and capabilities. We bemoan about the failure of modern customer service in our world - Thank goodness there are still people who deliver excellent service and companies who are wise enough to hire and retain people like Keith. read more

Once again this company has exceeded my expectations. They previously performed a very professional installation for me at a relative's house. There was a minor problem that was immediately corrected. Now they are on a job where another relative jad a heat pump failure. The Sunset proposal was better prepared than the competition. Jessie, the sales engineer, took the time to do a load calculation while the other contractors just proposed replacement in kind of what turned out to be an under sized unit. The existing unit then failed completely and Sunset was able to expedite installation. That is not an easy thing to do in the HVAC business. If you are looking for a contractor for service or installation you have to include Sunset in your research. read more

Sunset Air installed my heat pump in my new home. Today my one year inspection occurred and the fellow conducting it suggested I contact Sunset Air to schedule my one year check up. I did. After 2 rings someone answered and said, " I need to put you on hold", I said "OK"....15 minutes later I hung up and called back, the woman said "how can I help you" and when I told her I needed a service call she said the service dept was pretty busy with a 15 minute wait, I asked if the 15 minutes I'd already spent counted, she hemmed and hawed, said I'd hung up so had to go to the back of the line, I argued a bit and clearly irritated her, she finally said, " I'll connect you to the service dept." 40 minutes later she interrupted the very dreadful music and said, "we haven't forgotten you, only a couple calls ahead, I'll get you right in" and 20 minutes later someone from service answered. I have an appointment in 6 weeks. I hate to think it, but I do, I irritated the receptionist and she put me at the very bottom of the line - evidence? when the service gal, Spencer, answered I said I'd been on hold for over an hour and she said, "oh my God"....hoping the service call goes better. Selling my home and the buyer wanted the heater serviced, typical and completely acceptable. Sunset sent a tech out to do the inspection and found that the heat exchangers were cracked. I got a repair appointment scheduled for the following week. I was quoted $1500, $800 of it being for 4 hours of labor. The repair took 2 hour and I was still charged the full labor amount. I understand blocking 4 hours in the tech's schedule so you don't overbook, I don't understand overcharging the customer when the job takes half the time. $200/hr in labor is already insane. When I called to talk to someone in the service office, I was told they needed to talk to billing and they would call me back in a few minutes. So I waited for 3 hours yesterday evening (amount of time from when I called until they were closed) and then called them at 9 this morning (they opened at 7). After I was transferred to billing and then the service manager, I was told that travel time is included in labor charges (not explained at time of quote) and that according to GPS he was at my house for 2 hours and 45 minutes. He showed between 12:15 and 12:30 and left just after 2:30. They said they would refund me $135 for an hour of labor, $800/4 hrs is $200. They say that they will shred the check they were given for payment when they call me to take payment over the phone. They said they couldn't just cut me a check for the difference. I already stopped payment of the check to ensure they can't cash it too. I waited for 2 hours for them to call me back. When they did, they seemed like they didn't want to talk to me at all. They got my card info and email address so they could send me a receipt and got right off the phone. Ridiculous! I will be sharing this bs with everyone I know as well as filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. My realtor will also be passing all of this along to the 350 other agents in his office and all the agents they interact with. read more
