I am from NYC and I have to say that I enjoyed the flavors at this restaurant more than back at home. The broth from the pho was so tasty. The noodles were thin and cooked perfectly so it's easy to chew. I had the combination beef bowl and my husband had a veggie one. My daughter had pan fried noodles that came with the kitchen sink! Solid place for Vietnamese on the island! I had been in the mood for pho since I moved to the area recently and this place was the only one listed in the area but the Yelp rating showed some promise. We decided to try it one night and so glad we did! Service was a bit slow since there was only two going around taking and serving orders but they were nice. The wait time between ordering the pho and getting it to the table is a bit longer than what I'm used to but the taste was there so it was worth it. My husband got the large brisket pho while I got the medium chicken. The broth was light but full of flavor and tasted great with the chili paste and sriracha! They also come served with the usual bean sprouts, basil, and lime on the side. We also got a pair of fried eggrolls that were very tasty; seemed like they were made fresh since there was a bit of the wait on those as well but they were fresh out the fryer and tasted great with the chili paste (or fish sauce that comes on the side). I also saw they serve bubble tea as well so I got the mango bubble tea. The tapioca was very fresh since the first few I bit into were still warm, though I did find a few hard ones; the mango smoothie part of it tastes like they mix milk with it so it kind of threw me off but not too bad. Silly that this place even is rated as high as 4 stars. This place does NOT make authentic Pho and shouldn't claim to do so. It is also pretty OVERPRICED for the quality of it. Visiting Newport for the summer and I always try new Vietnamese places in every city/country that I visit that is rated highly to get insights on how to improve my own cooking at home for my family. My family and I ordered 5 Pho tai bo vien (beef eye round with meatballs) and 1 Pho Combo (combination of all meats; flank, tripe, tendon, eye round, meatballs). First off, the pho noodles are stuck and so clumped together that when you try to pick it up it all breaks and shatters.... Second, I like my beef medium rare so I always ask for the beef to be on the side so that I can cook it in the sizzling hot broth when it comes out... this meat was light brown instead of the bright red fresh meat typically comes out fresh. Third, the broth... my gosh how can I even start with the broth? This is just mixing water you simmered the bones in with just pure MSG. There was no smell of the anise seed, cinnamon, onion or ginger in the broth and these are main ingredients for the flavorful aromas of an authentic bowl of Pho soup. Sadly to say, none of us finished our Pho. We also ordered 4 orders of Summer Rolls that was accompanied with a drippy, watery peanut sauce (as my kids described it)... Pho- $10.50 To add meatballs to it was an extra $2.00!!! All it was is 1 meatball that they sliced into 4 slices!! Viola! Inflated, overpriced up charge $$$$ Summer Rolls- $4.50/ 2 Pretty normal, bland. What makes a summer roll good is the sauce that accommodates it. Drippy, watery peanut sauce did not cut it for us. Was visiting from out of town and on a rainy day pho is the perfect soup. We had a large party and the restaurant was able to accommodate us right away. It was a Thursday early afternoon so the lunch rush if there is one wasn't there yet. Prices are pretty high, but we were hoping the portions would make up for the cost. We were sadly mistaken. The pho was mediocre, spring rolls skimpy on the meat, and egg rolls lacked flavor. I opted for bun bo hue. The broth did not have any lemongrass flavor at all. Instead it tasted like a packet of ramen with loads of spicy chili oil. Similar to all the other items the portions were really minimal from the noodles to the meat. The beef was stringy and not your typical beef shank or ham hocks. There was a few slices of pork sausage which was this dish's saving grace. As I neared the bottom of the bowl, I noticed a long black piece of hair in my soup. Definitely not mine since I don't have black hair Service was pretty shotty as we were never checked up on after our food was dropped off. We did observe the staff ask their other patrons how their food was but we we didn't even get water refills. They have a wide selection of bubble teas in addition to an extensive food menu. They accommodate special requests (for example, we ordered summer rolls without pork) so you know everything is made fresh. We found sunrise on Yelp and couldn't wait. It's in a little strip mall next to Monro. I ordered the spring rolls. The lady bright us a plate filled with goodies and the wraps in a neat container that you spin the wrap in water to make pliable. The rolls were incredible and the nuoc mam was one of the best I've tried. I ordered the beef vermicelli and it was too die for. It was so good we ordered a bahn mi for a later dinner in our room. In a big city with a lot of diverse ethnic restaurants this place would be a 3 or a 4 star vice a 5 star rating. Fortunately for the business and for the very small Newport / Middleton Community, this place is the only authentic Vietnamese joint in town. Therefore, the things that would get this place crushed in bigger markets, are able to be overlooked because the next best option is an hour drive away. Sometimes, location and convenience trumps everything. In this case, that is true. Sunrise is a Traditional Vietnamese style restaurant that specializes in noodle and rice dishes. The wife and I have not had good Vietnamese style soups in over 2 months. We visited South East Asia and we love the rice noodles from the area. We were surprised to find that Newport/Middleton had a Vietnamese joint and even more surprised when we tasted the dishes and realized it is really authentic and really good. I had the beef brisket pho large which was absolutely enormous. The broth was rich with the subtle beef and vegetable notes that make this dish one of the most treasured things from Vietnam. The brisket definitely was the meat cooking in the broth as it fell apart in my mouth. I added the home made chili paste to spice things up and it was some of the best pho I have had in a long time. The time they took making the noodles was very evident as I didn't run into a single clump of rice noodles. Some places just toss the noodles in a pot and the noodles clump and don't fall apart. All the noodles were done well. The wife had the pho with chicken that she enjoyed. The fried egg rolls were pork goodness. I did dine in and not take out so I don't know about the quality of the take out containers. The location was clean and the hostess was really nice. It seems to be a completely family run business and I always enjoy supporting places that aren't chains. I was craving pho on a cold and snowy day and didn't know where to go. Seemed like Sunrise Restaurant had some nice reviews. It is a humble little place in a strip mall in Middletown, tucked behind the ubiquitous Dunkin Donuts. Plenty of parking. Plenty of tables available. The menu is larger than I expected with all sorts of things I'd like to try. I was seated in the fairly empty restaurant - one other single and 2 other couples were dining. I ordered the flank steak pho and the summer rolls. Great sauce on the summer rolls, and I was surprised by a piece of beef in each summer roll - a little treat? The pho had a side dish of bean sprouts, cilantro, and lime...I'd love some jalapeno, please! The bowl of pho was enormous - steak, noodles, scallions, and lots of broth. Sriracha and chili paste are condiments on each table. The food came out and it was pipin' hot. It could have used some more spice but that can always be added. Went here the other night to grab some Pho. It's a small Vietnamese cafe set set back in an unassuming mini strip mall in Middletown. It's located next to Big Dawg's. The decor is simple & there's probably ~15 four top tables. The waitress was quick to ask for my drink order. She came back & I decided on the medium pho with rib eye slices. There were a handful of other people there likely bc it was about 8:30 pm. The pho was timely in it's arrival. Steaming hot & softly fragrant of beef broth, cilantro & spring onion. The noodles had not yet softened fully so I picked at the Thai basil & plunked the leaves in the broth, stirred & ate a few bites of the rib eye. To me, the broth is the true test of really good Pho. This was lovely & clearly was authentically steeped from real beef bones in a big Kitchen pot. It was very good Pho. This place is great! It's been here for a while, but I never tried it until recently. It's interior is humble, and the food is delicious. I usually get the pho. The broth is always flavorful, and I like to add lots of sriracha and hoisin. Very nice place! The service was fast and our server was very nice. I ordered the brisket pho and the broth was lovely and the brisket was cut super thin. Brisket can get tough but the thin slices ensured very tender meat and it was a really great bowl. The noodles were also slightly thicker than I've had at other places so they kept a nice texture in the soup. My mom ordered the chicken vermicelli and said it was excellent compared to others she has had! If we weren't from out of town I could certainly imagine we would be regulars here. read more

There was a male that comes out from the kitchen that could help her out. I ordered the B8 pho, the one with all of the beef pieces in it. We also ordered the spring roll. The spring roll was whatever. I had better. The peanut sauce was really thin and wasn't that flavorful. The pho was decent. The broth has good flavor.
