Fun to go to a little café in a small town. We ordered a cheeseburger and corned beef hash/eggs, both with homemade home fried potatoes. The cheeseburger was great - cooked medium and very juicy (advertised as ground chuck). Oddly, the cheese consisted of some large shreds of cheddar dropped on my hamburger and bun after cooking. I would have preferred to have the cheese melted onto the hamburger itself. My friend didn't care for his corned beef hash, which consisted of the home fried potatoes and pieces of corned beef, saying it was dry and unseasoned (you can sort of tell by looking at the Yelp pictures). My home fried potatoes were unseasoned (or tasted that way) as well - a little salt and pepper helped. I do have to say that I saw lots of dishes coming out of that kitchen, and they all looked scrumptious, especially the omelets and eggs benedict. read more

Horrible experiance. Sat down and was ignored by staff while they served everyone around us. Ignored in the sense they wouldn't serve us, but we got plenty of "looks" while sitting. When we decided to leave a waitress finally asked if we had been helped. When we said no she told us "normally people come through the front door for service". When my boyfriend and I first started dating we were every weekend Walnut Cafe patrons. But one day I talked him into trying something new and now I can't remember the last time we went anywhere else for breakfast! Sunrise might not be anything special to look at but can always guarantee a good meal and friendly faces. The wait is never too long, even when they're crowded and there's always the best coffee while you wait. The one and only time I ever had a problem with my meal they took it back and fixed it, no complaints or attitude. The staff is young, friendly and attentive. I just can't say enough good things. Lots of options on the menu, whether you want to be a fatty or more on the healthy side. The choice of local products (Corralitos sausage, Santa Cruz coffee) is always an added bonus. If you're in Soquel or the surrounding area and looking for a good breakfast/brunch joint, this is the place! read more

I went with a party of 4. We are from out of town and we went here because it had good reviews. First it took a very long time to receive our food. Everyone else's food seemed decent but mine. We went here for the second time the other day. The first time was not memorable. I ordered a ruben sandwich and was excited to see the menu list it as "Lean". However the sandwich I got was anything but lean. When it was sat in front of me I quickly noticed and said "that is not lean", the girl responded with "what" and I repeated "this is not lean". She simply walked away. When she came near I asked for "another plate so I could remove the fat". She gave me another plate. When I started taking the fat off I could not believe how much fat was on the sandwich, the meat content was about 1/4 to 1/3 fat. What was left was chewy. We were asked if there was anything else they could get us and I told her they needed to change their menu, as the ruben was not lean as advertised. She did go to the counter and complain to the other person working there. At no time was I offered an adjustment or for them to make the sandwich correctly. I will not be returning. and if I could I would post a picture of all the fat taken off the half of sandwich I ate. read more

What a wonderful breakfast! We are in town for my mother in laws 90th birthday and all went out for breakfast. We were greeted with a smile and they were able to creatively accommodate our party of 8. I had a 2 egg scramble with cheese, mushroom, spinach, peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, avocado and garlic. This is a cute place but we were disappointed with our food. Coffee and service were good but the food was very greasy. I really don't understand what they did with the tofu in my tofu scramble. I think perhaps it was deep fried (the way you'd get it at a Chinese restaurant)? It was just loaded with grease and chewy. Ugh. On the flip side, the potatoes were tasty. read more

Next time I'm craving a burger, this place is at the top of my list. The gourmet burger was tasty and piping hot with bacon that melts in your mouth. My friend had a breakfast which she said was average. The waitress was nice and let us know that the restaurant serves food for the bar next door. It was good to know for the next time I want a bloody Mary. Plus, the place is small and probably gets busy during peak hours. PERSON...that doesn't have a plate, and the people who are coming in to take it to go, because the food gets served one order at a time. I started eating breakfast here a 3 or more days each week. I tend to get in early which may explain why I'm so happy with the responsiveness of the service. I rarely have to wait long. I typically have a veggie omlet, I have them add tomatos and artichoke hearts. In virtually every other restaurant where I pay for and ask for additional veggies, the cooK ALWAYS simply removes some of the original vegetables and makes the same sized omlet as if I hadn't paid for the extras. At Sunrise, I end up with a huge, nutritious, non-greasy, extremely tasty omlet every time. The potatos are excellent, also non-greasy, sometimes I substitute fruit or yogurt, which is always fresh and good. I highly recomment Sunrise Cafe. Just don't go there too early or I'll have competition for the great service! read more

Great food just the way I ordered it. Crispy bacon and the home frys were pretty good and that is what I judge the hardest. We were surprised at how fast we were seated I guess perfect timing this place is always packed. If waiting make sure to grab a cup of coffee out side on the side of the house. Went to this cafe for breakfast with my family of six. We had to wait an hour for the food to arrive, and only 4 of the 6 meals we ordered were served. Apparently the cook didn't see the other two orders so we waited another 15 minutes for the last two meals. The food was not worth the wait. The eggs over medium were actually burned to a crisp on the bottom. The biscuits tasted like baking soda. The coffee was weak and tasted like dirty dish water. The waffle was worse than an eggo waffle from your toaster. Really disappointed in the amount of time and money we wasted on this place. I've been to the Sunrise Cafe twice now and the food is what you would expect from a typical cafe. It wasn't bad nor spectacular, but the wait staff are hit or miss. The first time I went there the person was very attentive. The second visit, a different person from last time took my order and never checked on me again. Luckily the other wait staff did. In fact the teenager that they had there hustled way more than the person that took my order. The teenager refilled water and coffee, bussed tables, and did everything except take orders from customers. My server should take note and get a clue. read more
