For the mains, ended up splitting amongst a few of us and got the Classica and Tartufo Carbonara. The tartufo definitely had way more flavour and unfortunately we had that one first so the classico was a bit of a letdown. We also had the Linguine Allo Scoglio which had a good amount of seafood but again nothing overly special. As for pizzas, we tried the Salsicciotta and the Romana. Again, nothing overly special with the Salsicciotta but the Romana was probably my favourite dish of the night with a lot of stronger flavours but still very balanced. My two children and I have celiac disease. We clearly told our server this at the beginning and explicitly asked for gluten-free pasta, stressing that it was an allergy. We ordered gluten-free pasta for both children. Another child at the table ordered regular pasta. When the dishes arrived, they all looked identical. That immediately raised concern, so I asked again to confirm which ones were gluten-free. The server appeared unsure and had to check with the kitchen. He returned and assured us that all the pasta dishes were gluten-free. Based on that direct confirmation, my daughter ate almost her entire meal. Only then did another staff member come over to inform us that she had actually been served regular pasta. This is completely unacceptable. This wasn't a simple mix-up--it was: * Failure to properly label or distinguish allergy meals *Failure in communication between kitchen and staff *False reassurance when directly asked to verify an allergy-sensitive dish Now my daughter is sick, vomiting and in significant pain--because of this negligence. This happened over Easter weekend, on her birthday. Yes, the manager comped the meal. That does not undo the physical harm caused or the complete breakdown in basic allergy safety protocols. If you cannot safely handle gluten-free orders for celiac customers, you should not be telling people that you can. This experience was not just disappointing--it was dangerous. It's the main production location where you can get bread that have been freshly baked, and, of course, Jamaican patties. I have been visiting Tastee's east Markham location regularly as of late. I've been enjoying its patties that I needed to restock. I came to this location after work yesterday, on a late Thursday afternoon. It was a beautiful, unseasonably warm day. I walked in with a t-shirt and joggers on with the temperature at 18°C. I backed into a parking spot a few steps away from the main entrance. I then walked in. I let my nose get me to the main counter. There was a display case full of hot patties. It smelled incredible. It was enjoyable browsing. I saw everything from Limacol after-shave lotion (a total eye-opening experience as someone who doesn't shave her face) to bags of salted cod bits. I kept thinking about ackee and saltfish after looking at the latter. I am a beverage person. I enjoyed looking at drinks with island flare. The Grace peanut punch still sticks in my head. I need to get a drink box and check it out. The large inviting fridge with what looked like endless boxes of frozen patties. made me so happy. Veggie. Chicken. Non-spicy beef. Regular spicy beef. Spicy beef. There is something for everyone. My favourite is the regular spicy beef. I find that it's cheaper to get a dozen patties here at $15. The McCowan location lists a box at $15.50. There isn't tax on top of the price. The difference in price is likely because the McCowan location allows you to pay with a credit card. It also has hot foods. It's cheaper getting a box of 24 patties for $24.25. If you get five cases or more of 24 patties, the price goes down to $22 per case. I love patties. I don't think that I can do a box of 24 patties unless I am having a party or I eat patties all day, every day. I learned when I got to the counter that you can only pay with cash or a debit card. I walked in with a credit card. I got the most understanding woman with blue hair at the payment counter. I let her know that I didn't have a debit card on me and had to head to my car to fetch it. She was great and nodded. I returned in less than a minute armed with my debit card. I thanked her for her patience. I tapped and was good. She asked if I needed the receipt. I took it. I was happy that the box of patties were mine. I wished her a wonderful day. She reciprocated. I left with a cheerful box of patties. Maybe I should get a 24-pack of patties next time.
