We went to Sunny's to purchase a wig for my mother. This is the first time we had to purchase a wig and the first time my mother had to wear a wig. The saleswoman there was very helpful and patient. She was very knowledgeable and understanding. Her prices were also decent for synthetic hair wigs. There was also a nice selection of real hair wigs too. If you need a wig, it is something that needs to be purchased in person to see if the color and style fit your complexion and features. I have to admit this is my first wig shop review and it's likely going to be my only one. As a man stepping into a ladies wig shop, I can't begin to tell you how far out of my comfort zone I was in. I was truely about to walk in to another dimension. And as soon as I walked through that door, I was just blown away by what I saw and I was compelled to yelp this new reality even though I have absolutely no experience in this field. So here goes. This business is located in an older small strip center with 3 other businesses. It is located right on Airport Boulevard by MLK with 15 parking spaces. Needless to say, this is primarily a ladies wig shop, but they do have a smidge of men's hair pieces. As soon as you walk through the door, you are immediately taken aback by the hundreds of mannequin heads staring back at you sporting every imaginable hairstyle. It's enough to make you stop in your tracks thinking you've entered the twilight zone. The shop is about the size of a small efficiency apartment, but it is crammed full of wigs on heads of every conceivable make and design. They have both synthetic and human hair wigs. The quality of the hair pieces here are of great quality and it's easy to drop over $100 or more on a wig here, especially on real hair. My wife decided on a $80 synthetic wig as the perfect choice. On Saturday, August 16, I came intending to locate a wig. The owner showed me a variety of synthetic wigs. My request was to view real hair wigs. They were either too long, or the color or curl pattern wasn't right, but I still wanted to see a few. I asked about the other wig I saw on the shelf. She angrily remarked, "You're just wasting my time; I've shown you what I have," she said angrily. Horrified, I turned to go. She was impolite. I shall never return to that location. read more

I've been to a couple of wig places in Austin and this one is my favorite! The wig selection had impressive variety, and the prices were pretty affordable. The owner was incredibly patient and helpful as my friend and I were trying on quite a few wigs--and we found the ones we wanted. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

I hate to waste ergs and Yelp's page real estate on this business, but I feel I have a duty to do so. Suffice to say the woman working (the one pictured in the gallery. Owner?) was the rudest person I think I've ever encountered at a retail business. Having to deal with chemo hair loss for the first time, I decided to visit a couple of these stores to see if this solution might be right for me. On Saturday, 3/25, I went to Sunny Wigs, as it's close to my neighborhood and the other Yelp reviews here seemed to indicate that it was a pleasant shop. Nothing could be further from the truth. This woman could barely be bothered to glance up from unpacking merchandise boxes to see who might have entered to join the one customer who was browsing. When she saw that I was male, perhaps she determined I just wanted a wig for costume purposes, as why else would someone of my gender even darken her doorstep? I don't know the reason, other than the fact that I was male, for her to go from simply ignoring me to turning actively hostile and abrupt when I approached her with what I thought were legitimate questions. Any entreaty on my behalf was met with a variation of "Here are the wigs," pointing to the shelves of them which line the store's small interior. I tried to explain my predicament and would appreciate her help. No dice, same answer, barely looking up from the boxes on the counter. All this until I realized I was getting absolutely nowhere, while the other customer just watched this scene play out until I backed toward the door, said "thank you," and got out of there as fast as I could, truly disheartened and frustrated. As I mentioned above, I don't think I've ever been the recipient of such rudeness by a small business owner. In writing this review, I noticed that most of the reviews I'm seeing are several years old, so perhaps ownership has changed hands since then. That is literally one of the only reasons I can think of to explain this behavior. To the store's credit, it did display many lovely hairpieces. read more

The selection is huge with tons of current wig styles and colors. I tend to purchase my wigs online because prices are higher locally but I also like to spend & support local businesses. And once you tack on shipping and handling online pricing isn't to different in some cause. However I did find this beauty at Sunny's and she's not an easy online find. I'm very happy with my purchase and the lady working was very nice and helpful. I will go back when I buy locally. read more

I came here for my first hairpiece ever and Joan was soooo helpful! We spent about 20 minutes looking for extensions to match my multicolored curl pattern and unfortunately we couldn't find any. She suggested that it would be better to buy a synthetic wig that matched my curl pattern and cut it into a crown extension piece! Brilliant! She helped me cut it, and even showed me how to see the clips in :) I can't emphasize how helpful this woman was. I recommend this little shop (with not-so-little inventory) to everyone! I only got a synthetic piece, but I know she has name-brand pieces (reckon, Rene of Paris, etc) as well. They also have cheap eyelashes too. I definitely snagged a few. $1.99 lashes? I bought a wig here for the Texas State production of Noises Off! and was quite pleased with the price and the result onstage. Sunny's has a wide selection of wigs and (since we were the only people in the store) our service was pretty good. She wasn't too pushy like some of these places are, and she wanted to make sure we had the right color and style. She also let us look at the wig on a head form and offered to help us style it if necessary. The store is a little messy and doesn't have the best lighting, but when buying a wig I will most likely choose this place again. read more

I went by Sunny's today to get a hair piece to keep my shoulder length hair up off my neck in the hot summer. Service was not friendly, and a hair piece was being strongly suggested because it was "close." I didn't feel comfortable there at all--woman seemed unfriendly, grouchy, something.......some of products looked pretty good but who could look with someone talking over you criticizing what shade you wanted to look at. Bought a human hair wig from here, the quality was good. The lady is a nice little Asian lady who lets you try on all different wigs. She can even steam them for you if you don't like the flatness of some wig tops. The price is pretty good for the quality. I they have more synthetic than human, but if you need an every day or go to wig, you can find one here. The store is dimly lit and older, but you can see the hair well. read more

The ladies were very patient and helped me try on many different wigs. I was indecisive about the color, but they allowed me to retry the wigs until I had made up my mind. They steamed the wig for me at no extra charge, to give it more lift in front. It was a reasonable price. The biggest advantage in buying from their shop is that you actually get to see how it looks, and get it steamed to fit. When you buy online, you cannot see how it fits your face until after you have purchased it. Also, they see wig accessories: wig stands, wig shampoo, and so forth. read more

About 3 years ago I went through a tragedy in my life that caused an extreme case of PTSD and at my late 20's caused my hair to fall out. After several recommendations from my hair stylist at the time and my friends I went to Sunny's Wigs to get several that looked more like my real hair to make me feel more comfortable in my skin. They had a professional on staff who found one that best matched my curly hair which is VERY hard to do while teaching me how to put it on, how to clean it and how to pin it to my head. They made me feel beautiful again and I am forever grateful. I would recommend this shop over every shop I have ever visited. No matter your situation - Sunny Wigs can find the perfect wig for you even if it needs to be ordered and they come in a variety of shapes, styles and prices that wont kill your pocket book. I went in looking for a wig for my friend who had cancer. The wig she'd purchased elsewhere looked awful on her and she wanted a "red spikey wig". Staff helped me and without her even being there, I was able to find what she needed.My friend was thrilled. It was perfect.
