The Orthopedic surgeon has nothing to with scheduling an appointment. Please take the previous bad Yelp ratings with a grain of salt. Rady Children's Hospital Orthopedics is one of the leading orthopedic hospitals in the world and Dr. Mubarak is one of the reasons for this high rating. Dr. Mubarak has treated my kids for years. When the cast finally came off one of his incisions was blown open and his skin on his foot was going necrotic. I was told it was "normal" and to go home and walk on it. I'd thought I'd come to the end of my PT experiences with my Knee Replacement and, most recently, a Shoulder Replacement, but then got referred to work on my spine. Mark is an encouraging person who explains both the big picture, and the specifics of the attack plan to get better. He is also creatively flexible, responding to feedback from patients to craft a more effective workout. Mark flipped my disappointment with having to go back to PT, into a renewed motivation to address my spine, and to incorporate the weak knee and shoulder into continued strength-building and range of motion improvement. Mark's treatment team (the folks who set up the exercises, help patients do the exercises, and help patients maintain success momentum) are Jett, Miguel and Matt. These are the guys who help me get my form right, transition between exercises, and generally help with whatever a patient needs to excel. They are upbeat and full of energy, as well as perceptive enough to help patients fine-tune details of their performance. They help put each individual's plan into action; they are where the rubber meets the road. Last, but definitely not the least, is the Huge Smile patients see when they come in the front door: Mareya. She checks everyone in, and gets everyone organized for their sessions. We have been going to My Kids Place since my son was 3 years old for Speech and OT but more…read moreregularly in 2024. He is now 5 and 1/2 years old. He has high sensory needs and severe speech and language delays. He loves the equipment and toys at this center for OT. Some speech sessions can be challenging because he's not motivated to talk, prefer to be under the table instead, etc. Our main Speech Therapist here is Ms. Vidya, she is fantastic! She has made so much progress with my son's speech. Chris and everyone here are very knowledgeable, experienced, and professional. These sessions not only have helped my son but also helped me with being a better primary caregiver for my son. It's really just from observing what work or doesn't work with my son during sessions and by asking questions to Chris and his team. One of the things that these sessions help me with is having a better understanding of my son's physical needs and being a better problem solver. For example, I was able to practice certain things outside of sessions to help my son with like desensitizing loud sound from hair clipper/hand dryer, putting on his clothes independently, etc. Overall, we are so grateful to have MyKidsPlace in our son's life.

The sessions are advertised as 30 minutes, but in reality they feel much shorter. The therapist usually spends the first 5-10 minutes letting our son play, then about 15 minutes on actual therapy, and the last 10 minutes cleaning up and wrapping up the session. When I called to ask about it, the person I spoke with said it's because insurance only allows them to bill for 15 minutes of therapy. It's frustrating to pay so much when only about 15 minutes of the appointment is actual therapy time. Overall, we were not impressed and ultimately decided to pull our son out.

From Stephanie (the owner) who was the first person who called me and took the time to understand my concerns and questions, to the wonderful staff and therapists, it is such a great experience! Sabrina and Marissa are especially amazing! But all of the therapists there truly care and do their best to support you and your children. OT is a world I didn't know much about, but I felt very supported and got a lot of information and help. Their facility is also really big and has so many fun things to engage your kids like a zip line; trampoline, ball pit; games, feeding room, etc. I highly recommend going to them and you will see your children grow and develop.

I went to Kaiser and they made sure it wasn't a stroke or anything really serious. The Dr. said I had Vertigo (something about crystals in the ear out of place) and said she could send me to P.T. there but that they were not very good treating it at Kaiser. I already knew that because my mother and another family member had been treated there for the same thing. both got a sheet of paper showing exercises they could do at home and not much more. Anyway she recalled a presentation she attended previously by DR Will Bernaldo with Empower Rehab and suggested I might give him a call. I did and had an appointment the next day. This was outside of Kaiser so not covered by insurance for me, and I won't quote his prices but it wasn't as much as I expected. The time he spent doing the diagnosis and some therapy was probably 90 min or more, I walked out way better than I walked in, aggressively followed his at home therapy instruction and two days later 100% cured. Worth every penny and more. I recovered way faster than my other family members did without him. A big thank you to DR. Will G.Drake
