I am writing this review for my elderly neighbor (from Las Vegas) who doesn't use the computer. She had a system installed with Sunnova a couple years ago. Her panels were installed too high off her roof and the pigeons are getting under them and nesting. So her foster son recently sprayed the hose to clean out under the panels. She said it was just awful...lots of nests, eggs, bird crap. I also have solar, installed by Solar City, and I do NOT have the problem she's having because the panels were installed closer to my roof and the birds can't get under them. She talked with someone who said that they had a similar problem and she called her solar company and they took care of the problem for her. So my neighbor called Sunnova, who told her they are not responsible and that for $600, they could fix the problem. That is SOOOO wrong of Sunnova to be taking advantage of an elderly lady (who recently lost her husband)! She has very limited income and cannot afford the added expense to fix a problem that SUNNOVA created!! To top it off, her & her foster son have been having some health issues since they've worked hard to remove the pigeons (who will return!). We opened a case to temporarily remove our panels in April 2020 for a total roof replacement. Now it is June, no progress, no one we call at Sunnova can name their boss or give us a supervisor to talk to. We plan next on taking legal action, as our house is accruing severe water damage while we wait. We have had a roofer ready to go since APRIL, and we can't get an individual on the phone at Sunnova who has any authority on the case (which they mistakenly closed once already and had to reopen at our request). No one has ever called us back, every contact has been established on our end. The company Sunnova has made us feel wildly unimportant and disregarded, not to mention is costing us a great deal of money in home damage. I moved into my house in February, signing into a 25year contract with Sunnova. Since February, my solar panels have not been productive AT ALL. I've been in contact with their customer service team who have not been consistent with the information they've given me. Some customer service reps say my panels aren't producing, others say they are producing - but no one has been able to help me with this issue. Instead they say maybe there are too many trees blocking the sunlight from the panels - RIDICULOUS. My home gets plenty of sunlight. So now I am paying full price monthly for the solar panels and my electric bill. Terrible customer service. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I moved out a month ago and have not been able to get anyone to transfer my panels. No one can give me an estimate on when I will be getting my solar panels that I am still paying for but cannot use. Everyone of their customer service representatives cannot help, they all say they have their hands tied and that someone will get in contact! Obviously that's not happening. I have emailed / called everyone I can think and no one can give us concrete information, everyone has their hands tied. I do not recommend anyone go with this company. 1/28/18 I'm updating my review with more positive feedback on Sunnova's customer service. I have to say that they are really trying hard to turn the negative feedback around. Last week, after Pete came out and fixed my solar system problem, I got a follow up call from Bianca Contreras, again the rep from the Intervention Solution Team. She wanted to make sure the system was working good, and wanted to find out more about the history of the problem. After thoroughly explaining the entire story to her, I asked that if I were to receive a bill from Edison the next month, that they pay for it. She actually took it one step further and said that she would have a whole month of my solar bill credited due to all the troubles. She took a step to show what true customer service is, exceeding the customers expectations!! I can say that I am very happy with the results of this whole debacle. Yes, I'm still bummed on how the whole experience went, but Bianca and Pete both are doing their part in this company to try and change the image of Sunnova. Since I have been on line with sunnova My lights statreted to flickler then aftter a few weeks the electric woud go out for short periods of time. I called Sunnova and was told to call a electrician or call PSEG . Which meant I had to pay an electrician. I was told by PSEG and the electrician that it was sunnovas problem to correct. Pseg checked the pole and current from them coming into the house and all was fine with there work. I called Sunnova again and received a case # and that was it. Today is 4/14/18 I have not had electric in my home for the last 10 hours and cannot reach Sunnova. I do not have heat, hot water and my refrigerators and freezers are not working. read more

We've sat on hold for a combined total of 4 hours trying to get customer care to help with changing a lease over to a Buyer of a home. Sunnova has blown of this transaction and the new Buyers would like to cancel the contract to purchase the home because they are such a pain in the ass to deal with. We applied to refinance our home and the lender requested subordinate document on June 23, 2020. Sunnova told us it would cost $300.00. We sent the requested check overnight with a FedEx label for return. Since July 6, 2020 we still don't have that document. I called customer service 3 times in this time with the same story "we'll send out immediately'. Today is August 3rd and still nothing. I am sending them a letter to discontinue service for breach of contract. read more

We started contacting Sunnova after we hired a roofer to replace the roof on 11/4/2019. Our request was to take off the panels and replace them after the new roof was installed. We paid $250 for a processing fee as per the request of Sunnova. We had thought of installing the solar panels on the ground instead of putting back on the new roof. We asked Sunnova for a price to do this with no return response. We did get the name of the installer that would be doing the work who said we had to work through Sunnova to get an estimate. We found out from a solar installer that it cost almost double to relocate the panels on the ground so we threw out that idea. Thirteen phone calls have been made to Sunnova from 11/4/2019 to the present, 2/4/2020 with no results of progress. As of 1/28/2020 the customer service representative (answering service, really) told us that our case description they were following had the project of relocating the solar to the ground. We told them that was not what we asked for and that project was just an inquiry. So the representative closed our case and reopened a new case with the panels re-installed on the roof. So far it has taken four months to get nowhere. The question is: Is it going to take another 4+ months to be contacted by Sunnova? What's next? We think legal action might be the direction to go. read more

I am a Sunnova customer for 3+ years in California and it's been a horrible experience!!!!!!! Wish I would have never even taken the time to hear them out when they showed up at my house. First off the amount of panels they installed on my roof where no enough so we are paying Sunnova a fixed amount every month for a total of 25 years and still paying Edison. So WE ARE ACTUALLY PAYING MORE NOW than before we got the solar panels. I complained for the first 3 years calling them numerous times stating their panels are under producing what was promised to us on contract. But they would always say my options were only to 1) start a new lease to add additional panels and/or 2) wait for my 3 years to be reached so they can review my system production and if they find my system indeed under produced THEN and only then could they amend my contract to lower my promised Guaranteed Annual kWh and my monthly payment amount and issue me a credit. Every time I called them it was a waste of my time and energy and always felt like nothing was even achieved. When I finally reached the 3 year mark they did amend my contract to lower my "Guaranteed Annual kWh" numbers and my "Guaranteed Energy Price per kWh" which would lower my monthly payment for the remainder of my lease AND they would issue me a "credit" for the difference paid in the first 3 years. After loosing so much money in those first 3 years this was "their" way of making things right. Before I signed the amended contract I specially asked if they can issue me a "refund" instead of a "credit" and Claudia and Jared who I was speaking to about my amended contract told me I can request a refund instead of a credit. Well guess what...now they are telling me No I cannot get a refund. Oh and get this...after I signed the amended contract I received a copy of it (26 page PDF file) which says ..."you will be provided a refund check for underproduction...". Yet THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE CONTRACT! My neighbor has had similar issues with Sunnova so this is not a one off situation. I would highly recommend you look at other Solar companies to AVOID YOURSELF THE HEADACHE OF DEALING WITH SUNNOVA! Here is the section on my amended contract mentioning the refund they do not want to honor: Output Warranty The System's electrical output during the first ten (10) years of the Lease Term shall not decrease by more than fifteen percent (15%). This output warranty is in addition to the Energy Production Guarantee in Section 2(c)(i) of this Exhibit 2 and you will be provided a refund check for underproduction as set forth in Section 2(c)(i). read more

This company is the worst. I've had their solar panels on my house for about 5 years and have probably spent around 25% more on my electricity bill every year. It's also a pain when you want to lease your house and even a bigger pain when you want to sell. They devalue the house also because barley anyone wants to buy this house with this shitty solar contract. They are a total scam. read more

Beware of the longterm caveats of signing a loan contract for your solar with Sunnova. If you plan to refinance your home during any part of the life of your Sunnova financing, you will need to pay a $300 fee for them to "temporarily release" the lien on your home so that the lender will approve your home refinance. In addition, they have no way to electronically accept the fee, so you must mail a check or money order to them in Texas, which of course, slows down the entire process. After that, they have a processing time added to that. My broker warned me that he has had clients in the same position and it took weeks for Sunnova to do their part. He added that most other solar financing companies don't charge a fee to do this for their customers at all. Something to think about if you plan to ever refi your home while still paying for your solar. read more

Had to have a new roof installed so I had to have them remove and the system and I had to PAY 2750.00 to do so. THEN the guy they hired to do it stole the panels. I am not holding your panel hostage but currently having problem with sunnova putting my new company on the approved vendor list to do work. Which I have no idea would take more than 3 weeks and still no update. They told me that any job that I do right now will not be paid until my new company is on the approved vendor list. At this point I am stuck and will not do anymore work until this get clear on there side Irene called Sunnova (spoke to Ricardo) to advise of situation. Was told someone would call me back by Friday 8/18. No one called. I called late afternoon Friday about 430pm and was told "management" had my case and someone for sure would contact me Monday. Eileen from legal was supposed to call. She never did. Monday 8/21 Nothing,no call no contact from Sunnova. Tuesday 8/22 Irene called Sunnova(spoke to Ricardo) to see status so that I can have my system reinstalled. Again, no help and said I would get a call by 3pm. I gave work number also. So they have my cell and work number. Ricardo sent a request to have my August Lease payment refunded to me as I do not have my system running and no one can tell me when or what is happening. I went out for lunch and received the following text from Kein the contractor. Hey Irene, so I was going to send my guys out tomorrow to finish with the reinstall of your system. I have been dealing with sunnova director regarding the internal issue I am having with them and this don't seem to be working out. I also told them about that in currently holding on to materials with open cases that need to be reinstall and they seem like they don't even care. Me and them will go our separate ways and until I get my money which is over 20k I will not be doing any work or release anything to do. I'm sorry that you got caught up in the middle of all this. I came back from lunch and called Sunnova again to relay the new text message. I received a call from Diana at Sunnova and read her the text and she asked to place me on hold and went to speak to God knows who and came back on the line to tell me to ignore the contractor he is just harassing me now. (Ya think?) She said my case was with legal and someone is going to be in contact with me in the next 24 to 48 hours. No one ever called again. Tuesday Aug 29th I called Sunnova to see what was going on. Again no one had an answer to give me. I finally threatened to have the system removed from my house by a contractor myself and was told by Sunnova that I would be in violation of my lease. I told her that THEY were in violation of my lease because they were not reinstalling my system and I was currently on the grid. She said she would call me back. FINALLYYYYY I received a call back from Sunnova to tell me they were coming on 9/6/17 between 8am and 9am to reinstall my system. 9/5/17 Technician leaves vm telling me he will arrive on 9/6 and to please return call. 9/5/17 I return call to technician Chad to confirm and also tell him the racks and all the junk is on the side of my house. He asks me to text him a pic of everything that is there. This company is a joke AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. Their customer service is awful to deal with and they can't keep their stories straight. I have a roof leak where the wires penetrate my roof due to the sealant (probably putty) failing. On the website it states "25 year component, 10 year roof warranty". After multiple calls with them they are sticking to it only being a 1 year warranty on the roof. So now I have a roof leak that I can't even repair due to it being under the panels. If you are considering solar find another company that will value you as a customer. Its looking like the next step will be getting a lawyer involved. read more

So it has been almost 4 years, since they Illegally filed a lein on my property almost preventing me from selling my home at the day of signing, and I was forced to pay them $11k to buy myself out of the contract to release the false lein, they said it was the only way they would cancel the lien. Even though I had a lawyer draw up a letter stating what they did was illegal. they refused to budge. As of today I am still getting emailed a "STATEMENT" monthly that show my name and said house (address) as the account is still open. The panels are still on that house and are still producing wattage for someone else. I am at this point ready to file a civil lawsuit against them for my $11k back. That money had to be put on my next house doc's as "buying out of contract to Sunnova" yet 4 years later the contract / account are still currently active and someone else is getting all the benefits. SUNNOVA IS HORRIBLE IN EVERY WAY. For starters, it took them 6 months to set up the system and get it running at our house. Their customer service is the WORST, and they NEVER return calls. All they say is, "I'm sorry, somebody will call you back in 24-48 hours"... and they NEVER do. I had to reschedule an appointment once and they never told their NJ technician, and he STILL came. What a shame. Their salesman LIED to us in 2014 and said the cost to remove and reinstall the panels in order to get a new roof would always be $500. I knew nothing about solar at that time, so that seemed normal. Now in 2022 they are telling us it is $6,350. Actually, in the past two months they have told us it would cost $4,000, $4,800, $6,100, and now up to the $6,350. If I knew that, I would have waited until AFTER I got my new roof to convert to solar. I can certainly understand the price rising from $500, but now it is borderline extortion. I filed a complaint with the BBB, only to see that Sunnova Energy already has 470+ outstanding complaints as of October 2022. IF I knew in 2014 what my Sunnova experience would be like in 2022, I would NEVER have answered the door when their salesman rang my doorbell. STAY AWAY FROM SUNNOVA ENERGY... Buyer be ware! Do not sign anything, unless you have taken the time to fully read it. When I received the contract info, I had the sales person on the line and they were waiting for me to receive the email and sign the contract on the spot. This is absolutely ridiculous and it should not be handled in this manner. I live in California and was under the impression that I could try out the service for 30 days and cancel with no charges. Well, that was not the case! It turns out that a contractor was sent to my home, without my consent and without an appointment, someone just came into my property and replaced a perfectly good working meter. All of a sudden, one morning, I noticed there was a new meter on my panel! Well, first of all, that was very unprofessional that someone trespassed into my property without my permission. If I would've received a call, I would have had questions and most likely not allowed to have the meter replaced. When I called to cancel before the 30 days, I was informed that I needed to pay the cost for the new meter installation in the amount of $725.01. This situation is even worse for anyone who lives outside of California because they have less time to cancel or maybe Cancellation is not even an option! So, as someone else already mentioned in the reviews, if you see a pattern, trust your gut instinct. Unfortunately I did not do my homework ahead of time. To my bad luck, I am out almost 1K due to not taking the time to read through the info that was sent over to me. Just a warning and hopefully you will not fall into the same trap. read more

They continuously quote outrageous prices for critter guards. I refuse to pay almost a thousand dollars to fix a problem that their product created. Their customer service is atrocious. This is an ongoing issue. My son's mother passed away recently. She was the only signor on the lease agreement with Sunnova. My son has now inherited the home and wishes that all Sunnova equipment be removed from the roof. What I understand at this time is that Sunnova thinks their contracts can extend beyond death. My son says Sunnova will remove items for some ridiculous amount of money where as my son (who is mechanically inclined) could remove the items himself at no cost. At that time we asked about selling the property and what that would mean for solar they told us " just give us a call and we will take it" turns out thats not how it works, our fault for not reading the fine print but why not be honest? Now we are selling the house. I have been up front with them from day 1 of escrow. They refus to be up front about what they need. They continue to leave out major details. We will be closing our house 10 days late because of them. When I call and try to get answers I get told the same thing " it takes time" or " i am escalating it should be tomorrow. They are a disaster . Firstly their production doesn't work well. Secondly I was told I need to give a $500 refundable deposit when I bought a house with Sunnova panels on it. I called in July to get back the $500 as the year was up and was told the money will come back . Its been almost 2 months and every time I call a different person in customer service says something else. I was told I would get it back by last Wednesday the latest but nothing came . Now when I call they just say they don't know when . This is unbelievable they are just giving me the runaround and their agents have no idea about anything. I called in to get a copy of my power purchase agreement and was told they "lost" my contract....when asked what that meant they said they will have a supervisor call me back. 2 weeks ago!!! I called 5 times since asking for a copy of my power purchase agreement but all I get is "a supervisor will call, so I asked for an in house supervisor and was told they don't have any ..... THEY DONT HAVE ANY!!! Then I asked if you lost my contract why am I paying you? Because technically if you have no proof of my contract then I'm not supposed to pay.... I got hung up on for that. Horrible company and their services. Sunnova deserves no stars. There are better solar companies out there. My mother's electric bill is $250+ a month. She is paying Sunnova and Hawaiian Electric separately. Sunnova was suppose to remove Hawaiian Electric from her payment, but Sunnova did not follow through on what they promised. Once the papers were signed and the solar was installed, a representative from Sunnova said the solar is working. Turns out, the solar and battery was not turned on. Sunnova has sent their workers to my mother's house multiple times. Yet, they have not solved the problem, it seems they keep messing up. I believe these workers do not know what they are doing and are not professional. They keep reinstalling and replacing their materials but nothing is resolving the high electric bill. I have sent Oscar, a Sunnova representative, all my mother's electric bills. My mother even called the company about the issue. Yet, the representatives did not update her with the problem and the representatives said they will get back with her. It has been weeks now and no answer. read more

My system was down for almost half of the previous year because technical errors. It took me 5 months to wait for a tech guy to review the system. Now they are saying that the production for the previous year was almost 100%. I want my refund and that was a bad info. Every time I make a complain they keep changing the values of the reading. I would have given 0 stars but their product does work. However, Sunnova has NO customer service. No one replies to emails or phone calls. Last year they installed the first portion of the solar panels needed for my all electric home. After some time I was able to see some savings in my electric bill but I was already aware that I would need additional panels. The sales person came back and we signed a contract to complete the installation. A few weeks later they told me they could not complete the installation because of NJ law regarding solar panels. After contacting the NJ department of energy I learned that the regulation Sunnova was referring to was not applicable to my situation. I sent them the specifics from the state of NJ and spoke to several people. However, nothing has come of it and now no one will return my calls or emails. It is a shame that I am left with a half done solar project. I would NOT recommend Sunnova! read more

Sunnova is nothing but another solar scammer. They claim in their contract that they won't put a lien on your property and advertise they can't prevent you from selling your home. Well, I've sold my home, the title company shows a lien on my title and the buyer does not want the panels. Sunnova wants $25,000 for me to buy out a Power Purchase Agreement. Now I need a lawyer. I'm paying more for electric than my local utility company. Their price is 12.4 cents and National Grid is 9.7 cents right now! read more

Update - We are in our 3rd year with EZ Own System with about 4 months before I get my first (of many) check from Sunnova for not making their cumulative production guarantee. In contract there is guaranteed production and if they don't make it they will send us a check equal to difference which will be pennies on the dollar for the amount we paid for the system. Do your homework when it comes to selecting a Solar Company and panels they use. Each year the production guarantee is reduced and for now I don't see them making there production amount in any of the next 22 years I have left. When i purchased I purchased based on the production so far they haven't met what that promised. Very disappointed. New 2/1/2019 - just passed my 3 years with Sunnova and production guarantee. What a disappointment from what you are guaranteed vice what you actually produce. System has under produced all 3 years. They state as long as it produces 85% of what is guaranteed that is acceptable because they pay for the difference as the written in the contract but that is pennies compared to the price the system was purchased for. read more

Solar Sunnova energy company installed a solar system on my house in April 2015 and the sales girl told me that my electric bill would be ALWAYS be less than that of Nevada energy. Well, For 3 years the bill was lower and now the Sunnova monthly energy bill is more expensive than Nevada energy. Our solar panels have not been functioning for over 16 months. We were not aware that our system failed until receiving a substantial end of the year bill from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). I have been trying for over 4 months to get Sunnova to a) replace the broken meter and b) reimburse us for electric expenses incurred while the system was not functioning. To date we have gotten nothing but the runaround from Sunnova customer service. I have been told that the part is on order and assigned a case, and still we have not seen any results. I have been told that I would receive a reimbursement for high utility bill by 1/30/20, but have received nothing. Several times, I have requested a response from a company representative who has the authority to resolve these issues....I'm frustrated and still waiting! read more

WORST COMPANY TO WORK WITH EVER!!!! I don't know how many times I have been on the phone with them, but things never get resolved. We are currently buying a house that, unfortunately, has sunnova solar panels. They are not able to give the buy out amount or the pre pay amount. Not only that, it's impossible to speak to a supervisor. I spoke to Michelle (a supervisor), B1297, and she was not helpful at all. I asked if I could speak to a supervisor above her and she told me THEY DON'T TALK TO CUSTOMERS!!!!!! I was asking for paperwork about the difference between buy out and pre pay, and all I got was an email (below) that didn't cover ANYTHING. DO NOT BUY A HOUSE THAT HAS THESE PANELS!!!!! How does a big company like them not have paperwork regarding the difference between a pre pay and a buy out? How do we know what our rights are, what we're supposed to do, or anything about the process? I have only written two reviews in my life, and this is by far the worst place that I have dealt with. Customer service always has different answers and are never on the same page about anything. I call one day i'm told one thing, I call the next and it's a completely different thing. This email is in regards of the information requested for Buyout and Prepay. Buyout means you are purchasing the system and you will be the solar owner. However in buying out system you lose your maintenance and warranty. Prepayment you are paying the 25 years of the agreement before the time. In prepayment you still have the maintenance and warranty as system will still be Sunnova's property. DEPLORABLE!!!!!!!! I've been dealing with the nightmare of this company for almost TWO YEARS now!!! I signed the contract, it took 6 months for them to begin the process! They were to replace my roof then install the panels. They removed and installed the roof at the end f DECEMBER! Below zero temps n an inch of snow on my roof! While installing my roof, they added an extension onto the exhaust pipe. In doing so they dislodged the pipe from the heater INSIDE MY HOME! Unbenounced to me, myself and cats were subject to carbon monoxide poisoning for weeks! Luckily when the township inspector came to my home... he saw that the pipe had been dislodged from the heater. He pushed the pipe back into place n stated that we were lucky to be alive! I have a home filled with soot damage, my one cat has been to the vet 5 times, the other has damage to his vocal cords. I myself have been to the emergency room! They damaged my driveway, and back deck! After sending THREE of their own people into my home, and learning that I have people who actually SAW their workers on my frozen roof pulling up the exhaust pipe to add an extension to the pipe to clear the roof level needed to accommodate the hight of the solar Panles. One of the guys actually grabbed onto the pipe to prevent himself from slipping off my roof!!! They damaged my deck, and instead of telling me, used the roofing nail gun to try to fix it! I now have roofing nails in my deck!!!! One disaster after the next! Proven by their own people, yet I'm still being told that ALLLLLL THESE DAMAGES AN ILLNESSES WERE PREEXISTING!!!! From WHAT?? I climbed onto my roof and dislodged the exhaust pipe myself??? I made my beloved pets and myself sick( I am now required to take high blood pressure medication) and I waited for a year and a half to blame it on them????? I will do everything in my power to make sure their negligence doesn't hurt their pets, make them sick n distroy their home!!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! damage and assured correction.
