Very disappointed with the customer service I am receiving at this time (people friendly, horrible response). I need to get my roof on my home replaced so I need the system removed and reinstalled but need an estimate so I can budget. First called on Friday Oct 9th and explained my situation. A case was created and I was told to give them 72 hours for them to get back to me, they did not and I called to follow up on Oct 14th. I was then told the WO had been created and sent to an (unnamed here) and they should be calling me and if they hadn't to call back the next day, which I did on the 15th. I was then told they would look into it and get back to me, they did not. I called back on the 16th and the same answer, we'll get back to you. At the same time I asked about my portal, I can't get on it, will give a few more days for that. I also asked about a section from my agreement with them that states. 4. SYSTEM REPAIR, RELOCATION OR REMOVAL (a) You agree that if (i) the System needs any repairs that are not the responsibility of Sunnova under this Limited Warranty, (ii) the system needs to be removed and reinstalled to facilitate remodeling of your Home or (iii) the system is being relocated to another home you own pursuant to the Lease, you will have Sunnova, or another similarly qualified service provider, at your expense, perform such repairs, removal and reinstallation, or relocation on a time and materials basis. My question to them was can I hire a qualified company to do it. The roofing company I'm dealing with has a solar company they work with but because I'm on a lease I'm trying to be cautious with that. They said they'd get back to me. I called again today the 17th again just to follow up and now they're telling me it could take weeks for them to process this and also gave me a completely different name of the company they sent the WO to??? I just need an estimate, I can schedule to work out 7-8 weeks from the time I sign a contract with the roofing company. Now I would wonder if sunnova could even keep a scheduled commitment. I've had my system since 2014 and never worried that much but now I've been looking at reviews, complaints, etc. in regards to sunnova. I was really amazed at what I found. I even saw one where a guy couldn't get his roof replaced because sunnova left him hanging. The reviews are horrible, BBB has so many complaints I quit reading, and ripoff report is interesting. Now I'm going to be looking very closely at my system productivity since I have noticed a significate rise in my power bill, If they can even fix the portal problem. You would think since they should know everything about my system that they would have a rate to do what I want, Temporary removal and reinstall. Not that difficult, heck, I could do it myself as and electrician and low voltage electronics tech whos done a whole lot more difficult stuff than solar (will admit I couldn't commission it). I work in installation and service with a world wide electronics company and if we treated our customers like this even after a few days heads would roll. I want an answer to this. I could get the work done when needed if i can hire a qualified company on my oun... Our panels were not reporting and was told a part needed to be ordered from the manufacturer (that took more than 3 months to be received). A maintenance appt was scheduled to which no one showed up. After calling, they did not know why and eventually said it was because of technician shortage...rescheduled later in the week. They sent an email the morning of that appointment, rescheduling again for the next day. The next day comes and no one shows up for the 3rd time. Upon calling was told they don't do maintenance on Saturdays because they send their people to Puerto Rico and they have no record of me having an appt for that day and what proof do I have (ummm, an email from Sunnova Solar Corporation). They say I have an appointment for the following Tuesday (which I did not make or confirm). I have left voicemails and emails to an issue resolution person which only returns with very scripted responses and no resolution. Just another voicemail that I have an appointment on said Tuesday and he will call me after to see if they came. Oh and to top it all off, they have continued to take the auto payment out of my bank for the past 4 months for a system that is not working and reporting. DO NOT use SUNNOVA!! BUYER BEWARE!!! I purchased a new construction home that included a Sunnova PV solar system. While the home was being built, their customer service called with annoying frequency (it was under construction, so they had no information to pass); if I didn't answer the call (I have a job), they would insist, calling sometimes hourly until I picked up and listened to them reciting their scripted remarks. After we took possession of the home, the frequency continued, though the message changed--awaiting permission to operate from your utility company..." However, they stopped calling with that regularity just before the 90-day mark, when they sent the paperwork to request permission to operate...yes, it took 90 days for them to prepare the form. Then, they went silent. When I called to get an update, they started fabricating stories. One time I called, they said they that everything was ready and they were just waiting for final permission to operate. On another call, they said that their inspector had been out and there was a note about a placard missing from the system (I have security cameras and it had been nearly 2 months since the last visit of a Sunnova person)--I asked which placard was missing, then while on the phone, I went to my system and read that placard to the rep and every other one posted there (about 10-12 in total)--then, I went to an earlier section of the community to look at the placards on their systems which had been active for months to compare with mine and none were missing. The tech said that there should be nothing preventing my system from being active in the next 1-2 business days. Hearing nothing, I called again and was told that they had no record of a missing placard or of my call 2 days earlier, and that they were still waiting for the electric company inspection. Finally, I called the electric company myself, and learned that Sunnova was informed more than a month earlier that irrigation valves had been incorrectly placed, preventing them from permitting us to activate the system; the electric company forwarded me a copy of their email to Sunnova informing them of the issue. When I called Sunnova, they started the placard story again. I told the representative what the electric company had told me and she changed her story, then said that she wasn't supposed to discuss this with homeowners because it was between Sunnova and the electric company. At that point I reminded her that they were working on my behalf, that she was misinformed to think that I wasn't permitted to be informed about THE SYSTEM I PURCHASED FROM THEM, and demanded to speak to her supervisor. In the end, I coordinated with my builder to correct the placement of my irrigation valves (and the irrigation valves for the other 18 homes built in my phase of our development) and was granted permission to operate within 2 hours of submitting photos showing that the problem had corrected. Sunnova did absolutely NOTHING to resolve the issue and had never contacted the builder to tell them that there was an issue; they had their $27k from my installation and didn't care whether my system was ever turned on. Bottom Line: DO NOT BUY SOLAR FROM SUNNOVA!!! You'd be better off buying the panels on your own and hiring people from the parking lot of your local box store to install them--you'd have the same level of service, but at least you wouldn't have paid top dollar for it! If you are stuck with them for whatever reason, don't trust a word they say, speak to the electric company yourself, and push them or they won't move. read more

My family last year bought a house that was on short sale. We found out that the bank would not give us the house until the lease for the solar was on our name. We went ahead and got the lease under our name so we can get our dream house. One year later after paying Sunnova a monthly fee, I receive a bill form SCE for $1,300. Unfortunately, I have a family of 5 and the previous owner lived only with his wife. Because the solar panels where set up for just the amount of electricity they accumulated in the past year, we are not stuck having to pay the difference. Sunnova, will not re-evaluate my household nor my first year billing in this house. I now, approximately pay about $5,000 a year. read more

Do not use Sunnova. We had a local company in NY install our panels and Sunnova is servicing our loan, and as part of that we have to use them for all service. We needed our panels disconnected so we could service the electric panel in our building, and they were extremely slow to respond. Once they finally responded they said they had to charge us a fee, even though our original agreement doesn't require fees for basic maintenance. They couldn't use our payment on file for the fee, they only thing they accepted was a check...in the mail. After they received the check they never followed up, requiring us to reach out multiple times. It has been a month and we still have no connection and no timeline for basic service. read more

Never consider Sunnova as a solar provider. I purchased a home in Pheonix area with a Sunnova Solar system on the roof. since I am from Canada and have no US credit rating, they forced me to put a deposit of $1000 on account to allow the transaction to get signed up. I was told they would hold for 12 months until they could establish that i was credit worthy and paying my bills. since my 12 month period was up in September 2022. I have tried to retrieve my $1000. They do not deny taking my money but they say it is being sent to accounting to process. Repeatedly 25-35 attempts to get my cash back has only caused me grief. They say they are so sorry, and i should just give them more time. ha ha it has been 8 months now of the same old story, and i fear they will never give it back. Please do not work with these criminals. Sunnova, will not hold up their end of the bargain. over 25 years how will you repair your roof? who will pay. I wish I could give negative stars! I bought my home with this system installed and within the first year the system stopped communicating and I was forced to pay for my local power (SCE) and still pay for Sunnova. Call after call to their very hard to understand various customer service reps, and eventually (2 months later) a tech came out and fixed it. Recently I had a roof leak from the solar installation point (now 8 years after it was installed). Reading through the online info it appeared I had a 10 year warranty, being I could find nothing in my online account. I called and mentioned the emergency leak and was advised someone would get right back to me. After calling them for the next 6 days, sending emails, while it was still raining and leaking inside my home, no one would tell me anything. Just that my "case has been upgraded". On the 7th day I called again and was told my warranty was only good for a year but they would send someone out, for a charge, and remove the panels so I could pay a contractor to fix it. All the while, the HORRIBLE customers service reps were rude and careless. They couldn't tell me there was no warranty the first day so my house didn't get even further damaged for the next week by delaying my getting my own repairs? This company is ridiculous and the absolute most horrible customer service of any home service business I have ever dealt with. read more

Short and sweet: Sunnova is absolute garbage. I have been trying to relocate my panels to my new house which I moved into 6 MONTHS ago after starting the relocation process in June of 2020 and I keep getting the same exact response from Josue Dominguez: we are waiting for our operation management team for an update. Literally has been 6+ months I have been getting the same scripted, robot response from this "supervisor." Not to mention the BS that Toni Thomas and the customer reps comment on every negative review on here. Your scripted response only adds fuel to a fire that has no end in sight. The negligence I have received during this process is by far the worst thing I have ever had to deal with in my lifetime. They have caused enormous amount of stress not only on my family and I but also the family that bought my old house which still has the panels on them. I was also told another supervisor by the name of Ignacio Herrera was going to be handling my case but he has yet to return my 6 messages that I left on his answering machine. Customer service, let alone any kind of service, is nowhere to be found in this company. DO NOT USE THIS SOLAR COMPANY. Pull up your phone records since you say before every conversation "this calls are monitored for quality assurance." This is a cautious tale that everyone should read. A client of ours had to sell her home in the San Bernardino area of Southern California, after her tenants gave notice they were leaving. The tenants took three and a half months to move, all the time not paying rent and left the property destroyed (bed bugs, roaches, filthy, left behind 6 non-working TV's, multiple heavy electrical items, appliances, broken furniture, urine smoked carpet, rooms saturated with cigarette smoke and they even stole the microwave). She was not in a financial position to carry the mortgage during the vacancy and was in no way able to fix it up. She was living up in Northern California, working 2 jobs, renting a house with her parents, daughter & son-in-law and as if that's not enough right there, her husband was struggling with a fatal disease and ignoring his health which caused a hardship on their marriage. Her mistake was allowing the tenants to put in solar. The tenants ran an adult home care facility for mentally challenged adults. One of the licensing requirements was that the AC had to be ran most of the time in the summer months. That was very pricy for the tenants, so they asked her if she would agree to having Solar installed. She was told by the Sunnova sales person that the system could be moved to her location if she ever sold the property if the new buyer didn't want the solar. So basically, she could take it with her if need be. The contract stated that as well, but there were limitations on that, that the salesperson should have explained to her. You almost need an attorney to understand their installment agreement and all the legalese used, is to protect Sunnova and not the consumer. What the contract doesn't say is that Sunnova only covers a limited area in California. They are based out of Texas and they don't collaborate with any other local based companies to expand their coverage area for their clients. It also doesn't state in the contract, that they record a lien against your property. One for the equipment and one for the contract. What that means is that you can't sell your property until you pay them in full or the buyer qualifies and assumes the agreement. So basically, they are in control. I find it interesting that Sunnova can sell you a system, over the phone, process a verbal application over the phone, approve you and send you the contract via docu-sign and record two liens against your property without your knowledge or having you sign something stating that is what they are going to do. She did not agree to that, I could not find anywhere in her contract that said that is what they were going to do, and I think that's a real problem for consumers. After all, when you purchase a home, anything recorded against the property requires your signature to be notarized. The house had many offers but they fell through after the buyer got a chance to review the solar agreement. After the 2nd offer didn't go through, that was when she called Sunnova to have it moved to her home and found out they don't service that area. The house had to be purchased with the new buyer assuming the solar contract and since the contract was only in the 2nd year, a buyer would have to sign on for 28 years, and not own the solar unit the end. The only other option was to pay the installment contract in full for $57,145.01. After the broker amended the listing terms to state that a buyer would have to assume the solar installment agreement or purchase it outright for $57,145.01, the property was shown less and less and since she could not make the mortgage payments, the property was facing foreclosure. As each month went by, she hesitantly agreed to reduce it substantially, by $30,000,00, to jump start some interest in it. It was either that or she would not receive anything out of the sale and the property would be foreclosed on. She even wrote a hardship letter to Sunnova, explaining her circumstances, asking them if they would work out a settlement price that was very generous and fair for both parties. Sunnova's response was a generic, we can't help you letter. After the price reduction of $30k, she got an offer and escrow was opened. She was behind in the solar payments and Sunnova would not release the lien and transfer the contract to the new buyer until the outstanding $890.00 balance was paid in full and they would not allow that to be paid from escrow. She had to have a family member make the payment because she didn't have that kind of money laying around. There are legitimate solar companies out there, but PLEASE do your research. Read reviews and it would almost be worth it to have an attorney look over the contract. Needless to say my husband and I will not be looking at anything Sunnova has to offer when we decide to purchase solar. We are in the real estate industry and will spread the word to beware of this company. read more

I signed a contract with Sunnova back in July to have three batteries added to my existing system. I completed all the requirement the credit app and began patiently waiting. I have all of the confirmation emails from Sunnova. I got an email from Sunnova stating that my contract has been canceled because I did not fill out the automatic payment ACH from my bank. I have nothing installed but yet they are demanding payment information? I got this all straightened out and they rescinded the cancellation. One week later I get yet another contract cancellation notice and I am directed to call my sales rep. I have called and called and called along with email and all I get is crickets. I was hesitant to give any info and told the agent that i did not want a physical search engine giving my personal info to a bunch of different companies, that I wouldn't even do that online. I have since received several emails and phone calls from different companies in the area with the idea that we all have an appointment on the same day at the same time!!! Coincidence? HA! I truly regret working here. It was a waste of my time. I read the comments and reviews before coming to this job and I should of listened. I wasted a month and a week of my time and trust me you will too. The drama and OT it's truly not worth it. I experience discrimination by a supervisor (she thinks work is high school and she's the main character) "You are doing great" " within time you will get better" "I only have the people I like here" those were the comments she would make to me and in front of other agents. And I remember on my last day I had my headphones on and I had asked a question on the chat, and she said " if I just sent it through teams she won't understand ughhh" and walked away. And the agent by me told me she heard her say "she's so dumb, over a work related question" and remind you it was on our last day of training. After a 13 hour shift and when your on your way home from work they will call you to let you know you have been let go. That was my experience at Sunnova, worst company to work for. read more

We have been at this for a while now and this company is not very good. We were alerted by Sunnova that our solar panels were offline and they would have a contractor come out and take a look at them. Contractor came out and stated that a modem needed to be replaced and only Sunnova can provide the equipment. I figured this was pretty simple and straightforward especially since Sunnova caught the error. Boy was I wrong. I've held off making a post because I figured they would fix it sooner than later. However after us repeatedly calling and emailing, I needed to tally up enough info to see if they were really this bad? Well, needless to say the response time to fix the issue, lack of customer service knowledge, and an unwillingness to respond to our emails shows that this company is terrible. We actually believe because the panels are leased on our home is reason why they've pretty much ignored us. We've tried all forms of communication ( outside of writing a letter) to get Sunnova to see that we are diligent in getting this matter fixed, especially when they alerted us in the first place! This is the worst experience I have EVER encountered!! I bought my home in October, NO ONE would send me a copy of the contract and with everything COVID it was e signed. I have called this company at least 10 times and EVERY time they have lied to me, the change the price you pay, they show you $62 a month and then bill you $77 a month and then lie 100 times when you call. There is NO customer service. And all they say is oh well your stuck for 25 years and there is NO option, RUN AND RUN FAST, NEVER TURN AROUND, THIS IS A SCAM, my neighbors electric bill is cheaper then this solar bill. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have never dealt with such bad customer service in my life. This all began with the sell of our home and attempting to have a smooth transfer agreement to the buyers. We followed their directions to the tee and made sure our buyers did as well. Our situation was unique as the panels were moved from my father's home to my home in 2017. During the relocation process we were assured by Sunnova that we did not have to transfer the panels from my father's name to my name, as long as my father was a resident in the home, which he was. Fast forward to present day and the start of our transfer process, never once did they notify us that we would need to transfer it to our names despite multiple calls to see what the delay was. In the process, I was told that someone dropped the ball during the relocation in 2017 and it should have been transferred to my name. I was assured that since it was their mistake, they would honor it as is. It was not until 2 days before our expected closing date did they decide that the transfer had to happen to my name before it can be transferred to the buyer. Sunnova essentially held up my escrow due to their lack of organization, which in turned caused us to have to credit the buyers for their inconvenience. To top it off, whenever we requested a call from upper management, no one ever called us back. There was one call where we had to wait almost two hours to talk to a supervisor, even then, she was rude and was unable to help us out. It wasn't until I emailed the CEO did someone call. We are still waiting for a resolution. I do not recommend doing business with this company. read more

Their customer service is the worst. If I could give a 0 I would. I have been trying to get a email that our lease is paid off and still have not received it, trying since March 22. They are holding up our loan and obviously no concern of theirs. This is the second time we tried to get info from them. Last time we tried to get a payoff amount- two pages of notes calling them to get it and never receiving it. Then they sent it and sent somebody else's info. Then we got it fast when they realize they screwed up by sending us someone's personal information. Worst customer service ever I had to deal with. It took me calling the BBB in Houston, TX., to get a $500 deposit from a solar lease that came with a home that I planned on purchasing. I decided to cancel the deal due to different variables. Once the owners signed the cancellation agreement, I emailed a copy to Sunnova on the 18th of January 2021. I did not receive my check until the 12th of March. They have the worst customer service, I hope they don't try and steal any money out of my account! I called to remove my payment method off of their webpage and spoke to "Walter L" who informed me that they cannot remove my payment method even though it states to call customer service to remove that info. All that Walter could do is send a request to remove my payment information. What a scam! I've called my bank and had them block any payments from coming out of my account. If you are thinking of selling your home in the next few years, I wouldn't get a solar lease. Solar companies are notorious for being very slow to deal with when you are in escrow on selling your house. Instead of being organized and asking for all they need upfront, they do it piece by piece, and everything takes 3-5 business days on their side, so it could easily add up to more than 30 days to complete the transfer of solar lease from seller to buyer, more like 45 days. There was a snafu with their Docusign program that emails documents for the seller to sign. I heard they sometimes have problems with it. They didn't come up with a solution quickly and kept attempting to send by Docusign which wasn't working for 3 different emails we gave them. They don't have intelligent problem-solving systems in place - you get a cheap call center in Belize who have reps who don't know how to solve your problem. They wasted a lot of our time and delayed the escrow by 2 weeks. Pros: The lease is a little longer than other solar companies (5 yrs longer than most) but they charge a smaller percentage increase per year in cost than other companies, and definitely less than So Cal Edison. read more

Now that I sold my home I submitted the transfer case back on July 27th and they have not completed the transfer..... Im supposed to close escrow today and its being held up by this piss poor company. I called into the customer service and I am told they do not have any supervisor I can speak too, she cannot transfer any calls, there is only the ability to send a message for a call back.... not holding my breath as I am still waiting on a call from a supervisor from a message sent a year ago for the installation process..... Wonder if I would get a call if I just stopped paying their bill? I am a 100% disabled veteran and they are about to cost me the sale of my home. I have done everything with double the amount of time they said they needed to transfer the solar and yet they have failed to make their deadline. This is the absolute worst solar lease service anyone can have the unfortunate experience to deal with. I have been in Escrow and been trying to have the current owners lease contract transferred to my name so we can close and get funding for the home purchase. After 5 phone calls and spending 3 weeks trying to have this done, Sunnova could not deliver a transfer contract to me for signing to close the deal. There is no sense of urgency on Sunnova's part for the clients situation. Sunnova does not return phone calls and has not once follow-up when they could not process accordingly. If there's ever a company that seems to not give a hoot about their clients or potential clients, it is Sunnova. In contrast, Solar City/Tesla was asked to transfer their contract to me and the entire process from credit check to signing the contract took less than 30 minutes after 1 phone call to Tesla. I have never been so frustrated with any business more than Sunnova. I write this review because of sorrow for my own situation, and I hope if you're reading this you will not make the mistake of doing business with them if you have a choice. If you have solar panels install on your property affiliated with Sunnova, you could be in for this same disaster when you try to sell or buy. Sunnova, this is not how to do Business! Simply unacceptable and shame on you for creating such a bad service to ruin people from home purchases. Sunnova, you know who I am. My elderly parents were duped into a contract with Sunnova. They needed a new panel box ( Sunnova would provide ) Roof was in need of replacing, they installed anyway, and stated they would remove panels when roof was under replacement. 22 panels ordered, 12 were installed. The old panel box was not replaced, as a result their system began to burn the connectors and components , had we not caught it, our house would have burned down. Commercial electricians documented the same thing, and stated that no system should have ever been installed utilizing this old panel. The shorted solar panels on the roof provided a 50% offset ( contract stated that as well ) Who would bother with any solar program that only provided 50% of ones needs. When all said and done, my parents were told it would be $95 a month for the entire 25 yr contract. Sunnova charges $95 a month for just monitoring the system. Out of pocket 5000 in upgrades to my elderly parents just to run this company's equipment. Elderly fixed income parents now pay more for their electricity than before Sunnova. read more

My solar hasn't worked since July 2019 - their monitoring system is a joke - I found out panels weren't producing when I got a bill from electric provider in Sept. Contacted customer service again & again & again finally got appt. scheduled for Nov. - no show, no call or email. Contacted customer service again & again rescheduled for early Dec. & guess what - no show no call no email. contacted customer service again rescheduled for Jan. 7 - service guy showed up left tag on door knob "return will be needed soon" emailed customer service wanting an explanation - SURPRISE no response. Called again on the 12th - Girl feels me it needs the inverter replaced with no info on when this might happen SURPRISE again. I now owe electric provider $1200 - wouldn't recommend to worst enemy. read more

Sunnova had an employee come out to my house to change the meter and he never switched the disconnect back on. Now I owe the power company $80 and Sunnova $80. And their customer service could care less. They didn't even use my name correctly, calling me Bob in their response. Also, the system never covers my usage in the summer and I always end up paying hundreds of dollars in power bills every single summer from the beginning. This company is awful. I'll be reviewing them with this truth in every spot on the internet imaginable. If you see a Sunnova representative selling solar, run the other way as fast as you can. read more

Horrible customer service!!! They have third party companies taking the call who barely speak English and its so hard to understand what they are saying. My system is not producing effectively. I scheduled an appt for dec 14, 2020. No show and no call. Mind you I waited about 2-3 weeks for this appt. I called sunnova to find out why the technician didn't show up or give a courtesy call- couldn't provide an answer. I rescheduled for 1/5/21, and again a no show or courtesy call. Called again to find out what is going g on. Why the technician didn't show or call Nd of course couldn't provide an answer. I was promised a call from the supervisor David melara and an appt for for 1/6/21. Again, no call from the supervisor or an appt. So I called again and scheduled an appt for today 1/7/21. Be careful with these guys or better yet, avoid them altogether. The performance has not been what we were led to expect and their idea of customer service is a long wait followed by a surly, unresponsive representative. When we called with a service request we were told it would take thirty days to get someone out. We complained and asked to speak with a supervisor but were told that was not possible. Finally they promised they would pass on our request and have someone call us back. It has been a month and no one has called. read more

Surprise, Surprise, about 15 minutes after I left a bad review for sunnova, I received a call from sunnova, from Ignacio, who called me last time I left a bad review on another site, called to tell me everything I already know, and when they ask me to email them, i even put in my email not to call me and tell me that they are aware of what's happening, materials are ordered and that's exactly what happened, then told me there's no one I can talk to to resolve the situation, they won't remove the system, but yet they won't repair or maintain my system, and they are gonna call me every week to keep me informed of what is happening, meanwhile this is the first time I've heard from them in a month and "gonna call me once a week" to me, that means they have no intention to repair my system, but have no problem taking my monthly payments though. DO NOT do business with sunnova, read the reviews, do your homework, I wish I did read more
