Over that time, my blood work and treatment results were generally positive, and from a clinical standpoint things were going well. That said, there were a few issues that became frustrating over time. Even when visits were only to review routine lab results, Dr. Ho refused to do phone or virtual appointments. I often waited 30+ minutes in the lobby, drove through traffic both ways, and then had a 10-15 minute conversation that easily could have been handled remotely. The bigger problem came recently when my insurance changed from UnitedHealthcare to Cigna after more than seven years. I proactively called the office to update my information and was told they do not accept Cigna. No real explanation was given beyond "we're not set up with them." I then offered to pay cash and handle reimbursement myself through my insurance, which would have required no extra work from their office. That was also declined, simply because I technically have insurance -- insurance they don't accept. At that point it became clear the office no longer wanted me as a patient. For someone in the middle of long-term treatment, this was extremely frustrating and disruptive. Between the rigid appointment policies and the refusal to work with either my new insurance or a self-pay option, I've decided to find a new primary care doctor. Very disappointing experience after being a loyal patient for two years.

They took their time doing what needed to be done and explained everything adequately and the appointment was over when I had satisfied everything I came there to address. We have a PPO and the Dr required a referral from our sons doctor, any chart work concerning treatment of the Hoshimotos and previous labs concerning the same. As a parent I realized this was a lot to require for an initial appt, but when it comes to your children, you do what you need to do! Dr Swe has been proactive since our sons first appt. Dr Swe looked at his previous records, had a conversation with him, and told him the plan going forward. He was exhausted, having major mood swings, having a hard time focusing, and not eating the way he should. The doctor ordered blood work ASAP and called him personally a few days later. (what doctor calls their patients personally anymore?!) She told him that she had called in a higher dose of Levothyroxine and he was to start that. Dr Swe ordered that he have blood work done again within 90 days so she could check his levels and make sure he was improving. In Dec of this last year, he was doing very well, everything had balanced out and he was feeling good! Dr Swe ordered a scan of his thyroid. She called him the day after the scan and told him there was a small nodule on his thyroid, he needed to go have it biopsied. The nodule was so small it couldn't be felt. The day after the biopsy, she called and told him he had Thyroid Cancer. She talked with him and told him if he would like to come in to the office and talk, she would sit with him. (Again! What doctor does this anymore?!) She told him she has an excellent surgeon (Dr S. Battaglia) that she would refer him to and she thought it best to take the entire thyroid out. Within one months time, he was scanned, biopsied, diagnosed, and had a Thyroidectomy. Dr Swe was there for evry phone call he made, every question he asked, and as an encouraging support thru the entire process. I have thanked The Lord many times for her, her knowledge and wisdom, her compassion, and her strength. Our son is now cancer free! He continues to see Dr Swe as they continue in trying to find the fine balance needed when one's thyroid has been removed! I understand it can be quite a frustrating journey, but there's no doubt in my mind that Dr Swe is up for the challenge!
