I'm having surgery soon and I am thrilled that Dr. Bhoyrul is doing it. I saw some bad reviews re: staff and they're not wrong. The surgery scheduling team has really fallen short - 2 people. One I sent 2 emails and no response (I sent it to the email the surgery team wrote down and I double checked it) she said she never received it and the other left 2 voice messages and an email and no response so I had to call the front desk to try to get a response. I have no idea why he has staff like this when he is so wonderful. You just can't ignore people when they have questions re: upcoming surgery. His nurse and the person who scheduled me for my first appointment are awesome! I'll edit my review after surgery. read more

What other great things can I say about Dr. Bhoyrul that has already been said in other reviews but I will give it a shot. There are many people who have trouble finding their calling but that's clearly not the case with Dr. Bhoyrul. He is the best Gastro doctor and surgeon, period. I was having gastro issues for quite a while and I had seen several other gastroenterologist and none of them could come up with an accurate diagnosis. I did some research and homework and thank god I found Dr. Sunil Bhoyrul. He is extremely professional, caring and an expert at his craft. I went in for a routine laparoscopic hernia repair - straight forward repair. I woke up from surgery several hours later screaming with pain, found out I had a catheter and learned that was because he sliced my bladder open. Then when he put the mesh in for the repair, it strangled big nerves leaving me in immense pain for months. He blamed the bladder slicing (which is insane by the way for this type of operation) on "scar tissue" from a hernia repair i had in infancy (note: the surgeon that fixed this disaster said there was no scar tissue... so he also lied to me with a fabricated excuse for his extraordinary incompetence). I finally got it repaired by a world renowned expert at significant expense to me. I lost feeling in that area from his operation and am still experiencing complications. I should have written this long ago. This guy has had a horrible impact on my life and I will probably live with it forever. STAY AWAY! read more

DR. Bhoyrul does NOT care about his patients. I had Gastric Sleeve in 2019 with him and have had several complications/issues after. I have asked for help so many times and he has brushed me off and disregarded my concerns. If he had paid closer attention to my concerns and my endoscopy before I had the sleeve surgery he could have saved me the pain of going through a hernia repair surgery and the trauma of being botched/scarred. I cannot express how frustrated traumatized and angry I am with him. If you are getting any bariatric procedure done I would cancel and go somewhere else. read more

Starting with our first appointment, Dr. Bhoyrul showed so much concern for my husband's total health. He has Parkinson's and a heart condition and needed hernia surgery. Dr. Bhoyrul checked with his cardiologist to be sure hernia surgery was safe. We are getting ready to move to Chicago very soon. Dr. Bhoyrul examined him and realized the surgery needed to be done before we leave, and was able to schedule this procedure quickly. It's been nearly two years since my ill-fated Nissen's Fonduplication. The ultimate effect of this procedure to me is permanent damage and severe pain almost every meal. I'd say throwing up at least weekly with severe chest pain resembling heart attack (complete with palpitations) is about par for the course. The last incident occurred at a lovely wedding at Quail Botanical Gardens. Spent much of the time crouching in the bushes trying to not "steal the spotlight" from the bridal party in the worst possible way. I also frequently experience severe nerve pain and tingling in my mouth which is associated with meal times. I recently penned a letter to Dr. B detailing my struggles. It was completely ignored. I had been encouraged by Dr. B and his staff to believe that these unpleasant issues would resolve themselves over time. Probably because the SOL for Med Mal is just one year. So now I'm the one that's truly SOL. If you are even thinking of this procedure, do your homework and be aware that the outcome is often NOT GOOD. I wish I would have. And if you do have problems, the office will simply "wash their hands of you." read more

I work in healthcare myself and developed a symptomatic umbilical hernia several years ago. I met with a few surgeons when it was clear that my hernia had to be repaired. Dr. Bhoyrul and his staff really stuck out to me in the initial consultation. He was personable and took the time to give me a thorough evaluation. Even though a hernia repair is a fairly simple and routine procedure for most surgeons he understood that it was still a really important undertaking for me. He explained everything in detail and described his method of repair and why he felt it would be better for me. My interactions with the office and the staff were all excellent. The office got my insurance authorized quickly and scheduled my surgery efficiently only a couple weeks out from my initial consultation. On the day of surgery I felt that I had amazing care. Dr. Bhoyrul was a true professional and an expert surgeon. I was extremely pleased with how quickly I was able to recover, resume activities and work and my final result. Dr. Bhoyrul was one of the only surgeons that seemed to care about the details like minimizing the size of my scar and hiding it further inside the umbilicus to make it less noticeable. It's been over a year since my surgery and I have no symptoms whatsoever, can do any activity I want, participate in sports/heavy lifting, and can't even see my surgical scar. I wholeheartedly agree with the kudos regarding Dr Bhoyrul! He is an amazing amazing amazing person and physician. Best I've ever met---as skilled as he is compassionate. All good there. I did want to give a shout out to his supporting cast too. His office staff follow his lead of being equally compassionate and professional. There is one particular person who really stands out for us and that is his right-hand person, Nurse Practitioner Kirsten Goshen. I can't say enough heartfelt good things about this caregiver. Seriously. If I could, I'd rent an airplane with a banner touting her excellence all over the county! My spouse was super high risk for the gastric bypass surgery itself, let alone the recovery and maintenance stages. Due to a host of medical conditions, he could not be under anesthesia for more than 2 hours. As I huddled with friends in the waiting room, alternating between praying and pacing the floors, Kirsten and Dr Bhoyrul did their thing in the OR and did it so well, the entire procedure was done in just over 1 hour! And the care didn't stop there either. Kirsten was especially thoughtful with her ministrations and upon his release from the hospital, she continued her vigilance on monitoring his care. She made herself completely available to us to contact day or night with questions and concerns. No one does that! She checked in on us regularly and basically said, "Hey, you're family now." That's how this practice operates. And they have people like Kirsten--who so obviously adores what she does and has such a heart for it--embracing the patient AND their family and helping every step of the way. From going on 5k walks with patients and family every month to coming alongside to cheerlead and advise and encourage, Kirsten is the consummate compassionate caregiver. This practice will not leave you alone in this journey towards health, not with folks like Kirsten around. Dr. Bhoyrul is a terrific surgeon and really cares about his patients, but the smartest thing he ever did was to hire Kirsten Goshen as his Nurse Practitioner. She is extraordinarily caring and reliable. I had complications, so I was under Dr. Bhoyrul's care for a few months and Kirsten was there for me big time! From my first encounter with her, I could feel that she deeply cared not only about my physical condition, but about how I was navigating the experience of surgery and hospitalization. She was there for me every time I needed her, nights and weekends it didn't matter, she got back to me promptly with good advice, the right medication and emotional support when I needed it. I saw another surgeon before going to see Dr. Bhoyrul. That surgeon was not a good fit. At a friend's recommendation I went to Dr. Bhoyrul and instantly fell in love with him and the office staff. He is so incredibly caring and passionate about his work. I saw his dietian for 6 months pre-op at my first meeting I was so scared because all I've ever had from other dietians is how awful I'm eating, and nothing but negativity. Not so with Mary, she's a sweetheart and worth paying OOP to see her. I had my RNY surgery in the beginning of May 2017. I had several complications and Dr. Bhoyrul and Kirsten Goshen his amazing Nurse Practioner were there for me every step of the way. I called after hours, weekends, holidays and they were always available and doing everything they could to help. It is such a comfort to see such sweet loving faces walk into your hospital room and greet you with love and caring the way these two do. I will forever be indebted to Dr. Bhoyrul, Kirsten and the rest of the staff at Del Mar Surgical. Dr. Bhoyrul is one of the most caring, knowledge and professional doctors I've ever seen. He and his staff are the reason I'm in the best health and well-being I've ever been in my life. I had gastric bypass surgery December 2018 as I weighed 286 lbs and my body fat was near 75. Thankfully I didn't have diabetes, high blood pressure or any other ailments that are common for someone who is obese. I started exercising 3 weeks later, 2x a week then 3x and now 5-6x per week. I had never exercised before being that I have been an asthmatic kid since 8 years old. But I listened to their recommendations about diet and exercise and I applied them. In April 2019, Dr. Bhoyrul gave me the green light for skin removal surgery as I weighed 166 and my body fat was under 30. He recommended an excellent surgeon as he said he would forever take care of me. I am now recovering from a breast lift, arm lift and tummy tuck surgeries which I had on May 14th, 2019. I had less than 5 lbs of skin removed since I had worked so hard at reducing the fat in my body. I have gone from a size 26 to a size 8 in clothing and my shoe size has reduced from a size 10 to a size 8 1/2. I feel amazing, blessed, beautiful but most of all HEALTHY !!!
