He had indicated I might need a full shoulder replacement and then referred me to PT. For two months I have been at a pain level of 9+ and have not had any sleep. I finally had to demand MRI imaging because the pain was so excessive I needed to find out what was really going on. His office also totally messed up the request for the MRIs and I had to go twice. Another delay and more pain. I knew I needed a second opinion and was referred to Dr. Skyhar by two friends, and I have to say was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. He is one of the most caring and intelligent doctors I have ever spent time with. He reviewed the MRIs slide by slide and explained in detail what each slide was showing. He determined that I did not need to have any kind of surgery and that my pain that I was experiencing was neurological in nature. He even explained the MRI report by the radiologist that to be honest was not written correctly. He is a wonderful doctor. He is a kind and loving person and I cannot thank my friends enough for referring me to him. My husband said OK. we now know any orthopedic issue that we have guess where we're going: to Dr. Skyhar. I back-padlled for 2 years with this option for my lumbar problem. I finally acquiesced after consulting with 3 other orthopedic surgeons who couldn't provide a solution for my lumber. After the approximately 9 hr surgery, I had to relearn basic daily physical activities,i.e, bathe, dress, etc. At 6 mo follow up I told him how dissatisfied I was in my new body and current symptoms. On my 'after visit summary' with Dr Mundis he said: Ouote; "I was very open and honest with her that correcting the scoliosis was not a necessary portion of the operation". He also stated that "my goal was to make her more balanced". I didn't feel out of balance before the operation. I'm completely out of balance now and dizziness is chronic after the surgery on my scoliosis that "was not a necessary portion of the operation". I've sent Dr Mundis messages to please talk to me about this on 09/24, 09/26 and 10/22. I'm still waiting for a response.

He is a corporate sellout who works for workers comp companies like Concentra, so that should tell you a little something about his integrity. I saw William Holland 10 years ago before Concentra bought out US HealthWorks in Marietta, CA. I crushed my index finger on my right hand while working at the City of Temecula. It was so badly crushed that the skin burst, breaking open an artery that supplied blood to my finger and requiring several sutures across the pad. Concentra assigned William Holland to be my orthopedic specialist after a couple of weeks of therapy. I showed Dr Holland that my finger had lost much of its functionality and explained to him that it was my trigger finger and that I enjoyed shooting being a retired law enforcement officer. The tendon that ran across the top middle knuckle would get stuck and jump. Additionally, I showed him that I was unable to make a monkey grip with that finger, which would totally mess up my ability to shoot accurately. Dr Holland told me that my finger would heal and that soon I would be able to have my monkey grip back. He wrote me off as 100% with no disability even though I had a major disability when I saw him. It has been 10 years, and I still only have about 50% use of the finger when it comes to grip. I can only get about halfway to touching the pad of my hand. Dr Holland lied to me! I believe it is because he has invested interest in keeping the contract for concentra/us HealthWorks who he works for. He knows if he saves money for the cities and large businesses, they will keep the same work comp company, and he will continue to be employed by them. If you have to see Dr Holland because you were assigned him for your workers comp case, be careful not to let him deceive or mislead you like you did to me. He comes off convincing, but if I were you, I would definitely find a different doctor on the list of providers and get another opinion when he tries to downplay your injuries! I learned the hard way!

It is not easy to write a negative review for I like Dr. Swenson personally. He had been my…read moreorthopedic hip surgeon for over 8 years. In May of 2016 he did a revision on my left hip for the initial replacement had to be removed for he had put in the DePuy hip, metal on metal. The two surgeries went as planned and I had a good outcome. In 2020 I had the right hip replaced by Dr. Swenson at Scripps La Jolla and immediately I knew something was wrong for it wasn't healing, where I normally recover very quickly. On multiple followup visits (at least 6+) I conveyed that I knew I was infected and he persisted I wasn't. He did the simple aspirations of the right hip and I requested the sample be held in the lab for over 12+ days, allowing any bacterial infection to grow. That was never accomplished. To appease me he went in and did a revision about 1 1/2 years later, extracting the prosthesis, replacing it with new hardware for he suspected the prothesis was moving and causing the pain. I continued not to heal post revision and continued to have severe hip pain when walking/weight bearing. After two years of this ongoing pain he got exasperated and recommended I get a second opinion. I went to Dr. Worsley at Scripps Green where he had an ultrasound done on my right hip to try and detect any bacterial infection. It was found immediately in a significant pocket behind the prosthetic ball. Dr. Worsley did a revision in 2023, now my third surgery on my hip. He was not able to extract the metal rod for fear of having my femur shatter. As a substitute I was put on vancomycin drip 5 hours a day for weeks to try and kill the bacteria, for now it was a chronic infection after over 3 years rather than an acute infection. I got deathly ill and had to be hospitalized for 10 days for my kidneys were failing due to the vancomycin intravenous drip I stopped the medication and was done with Scripps, moved to UCSD where I received excellent care. Had two more surgeries where my femur had to be cut in half horizontally in order to extract the metal prothesis that was harboring the chronic infection. Due to both extensive surgeries I was under anesthesia for 18+ hours, which I know is not good for one's brain and health. After 5 surgeries over 5 years, I'm still in pain when walking/weight bearing, but thankfully the infection has been eradicated and I won't have to be on antibiotics for life. Had Dr. Swenson just listened to my pleas over and over for 2+ years the acute infection could have been treated from the get go and I would not have experienced 5+ years of ongoing daily pain. The long term prognosis is not good for both my quad and hamstring muscles have been highly compromised due to 5 intense surgeries over 5 years. Unfortunately it has been and continues to be an awful experience that has totally compromised my ability for any sports or travel. I so wish the outcome had been different and that I had been listened to.
