The master bathroom in my recently-purchased 2-bed/2-bath condo has slate floors, a limestone vanity, and slate and limestone walls. The problems included: (1) parts of the limestone vanity were stained and/or discolored; (2) the (awful) housepainters I (stupidly) hired left a zillion paint specks all over the slate floors; and (3) the silicone sealer used in and around the glass shower looked horrible (the "colorless" color somehow stuck out like a sore thumb, and the silicone was all blobby and outside the lines--it looked like it was applied by a blindfolded 8-year old girl with some physical disorder causing extreme spasticity). Worse yet, my slate floors must have absorbed 10 years worth of filth (slate is very porous), because every single time I took a shower and walked barefoot in the bathroom, the undersides of my feet turned literally black.
Sungloss performed a deep cleaning of all the slate and limestone, honed all the stone, got rid of the paint specks as well as all the gloopy silicone, applied a deliberately and wisely selected colored silicone, and re-sealed all the stone, including using a "color-enhancing" seal on certain tiles and portions of tiles that had originally looked fundamentally mismatched (I quite like color variations in natural stone, but the problem in my bathroom far exceeded that kind of variation--in certain places, it really looked like a mistake, as though tiles from some other condo or building were used!).
When I moved into my condo, I encountered many mystifying problems (as in, "how on earth did this [fill in the blank with the name of any appliance, amenity, or finish] get this [filthy, or damaged, or broken]?!"). Misery set in, as did home-ownership-induced suicidal fantasies. Making matters worse, the companies I hired to deal with each problem promised me the moon ("sure, we can fix that in no time, and it won't cost much at all!"), but then always seemed to deliver a uniquely enraging combination of unexplained delays, baffling incompetence/ineptitude, and, to cap it all off, ridiculously high bills.
Thankfully, Sungloss was different. Sungloss's Lisa Park called me back right away, and promptly came to my condo to inspect the relevant areas and prepare an estimate. Lisa is very knowledgeable about all things stone-related (my other home-repair nightmares taught me a lot about how to spot loads of bull, and the people who spout them, and Lisa obviously did not fall into that category). I was also truly impressed by Lisa's honesty: stain by stain, and problem by problem, she patiently explained what results she thought Sungloss could--and could not--achieve. She didn't promise the moon, but she assured me that Sungloss could resolve the vast majority of my slate and limestone "issues" to my satisfaction. Lisa's estimate, which I received promptly after our meeting, was completely in line with what she had led me to expect during our meeting. When I got Sungloss's detailed contract, I called to ask various questions about the descriptions of the work to be performed (the world of natural stone, like so many other industries and trades, is replete with an arcane vocabulary, which the rest of us mere mortals cannot hope to understand). Lisa was out of the office when I called, but Mike, Sungloss's President, immediately offered to help me. Like Lisa, Mike was extremely patient and thorough, explaining all the terminology, answering all my questions, and accepting all the changes I wanted to make to the contract language.
The 2-man crew sent by Sungloss to do my job was top-notch. Both men were friendly, and worked diligently and without breaks (they even politely refused my repeated offers of beverages, a sandwich, etc.). From time to time, they would call me in to review their progress in a particular area, and each time--even when the job was less than half-done--I nearly wept with gratitude. Finally, I was actually getting what I was paying for!
Looking at the final results of Sungloss's work I am overjoyed. The bathroom looks worlds better: my feet are squeaky clean (not even a little bit black!); the paint specks are gone, as are most of the stains/discolorations in the stone (the few that remain are much improved, and in any event are precisely the stains that Lisa specifically told me might not come out completely!); the slate floor is much more evenly colored; and the silicone now looks like it was applied by a true professional and craftsman rather than a blindfolded child. As I told Lisa when we spoke after my job was completed, this was the very first time, in all the long, sad months of being a home owner, that I was quite literally HAPPY to write a check for services rendered!!! I highly recommend Sungloss to anyone who needs work done on any natural stone! read more
