Staff could not be more accommodating to our needs. Sam was one of the best employees we have come across at any business.

It was due to the excellent reviews here that I went to Skokie Optical, not realizing that when…read moreRosen took it over it lost all the aspects that made it such a fantastic optical place. They only take appointments here on Mondays, and the lab is no longer being used. We booked our appointments 2 weeks out, only to have someone call us a week before the appointment in August to reschedule to a week later. When we got there, we were warmly welcomed and the optometrist did a decent job. We had decent optical insurance. I used to work in the optical industry many years ago, and I found Rosen's model remarkably similar in its predatory nature. Rather than point us to the frames and lenses that would receive the most coverage through our insurance, the optician pointed us to the most expensive lenses our personal money could buy. We bought 1 pair of single vision lenses and 1 pair of progressives through the insurance, plus 1 pair of single vision lenses out of pocket. After the insurance was applied, the out of pocket for the insurance-paid glasses and those I purchased out of pocket were nearly identical--upwards of $300 each. Tack on another $600 out of pocket for the progressives after insurance was applied and the glasses were $1200+. When I asked the optician to convert the lenses over to what was covered, she argued that the total amount we'd save was a mere $40, which was disingenuous at best because that was the difference in out of pocket cost, per lens, but my insurance covered a higher proportion of the insured lenses than the specialty ones. When I asked what was remarkably better about the upgraded lenses, the optician said "you can see better out of them" with absolutely no further explanation about how, qualitatively, they improved vision. The bonus was when the single vision glasses took over 3 weeks to arrive. When I called to ask about them, they said this was standard timing for all glasses throughout the industry, which I know is false because even 20 years ago with an external lab glasses were delivered within a week unless they were really specialized, like glass trifocals. The progressives took 6 weeks apparently because the first make didn't pass inspection. We will not be back to Rosen and resume our search for an ethical optical place for next year. What a racket.

What is great to see that is consistent from the prior owner is at the doctors are incredibly talented skillful helpful and personable. Dr. Lu is who I usually deal with and she is fantastic for not only myself but my entire family. What I like about her style is that she's very clear concise direct and focused on the health and vision of my eyes. This place continues to have an incredible selection of frames as well for all price points. The entire front office staff is completely different than it was with the prior doctor and that's OK because changes always happened. What I am glad is at the front office staff like their predecessors are super friendly and personable. They're always willing to help and always trying to be accommodating. I truly enjoy coming here because they don't waste my time and they're extremely great at what they do. I have consistently bought frames with lenses here and they are punctual and transparent in pricing and they never try to up charge you or sell you things you don't need. I appreciate this because they don't waste my money. If anyone is looking for an eye doctor and an office that takes insurances and does a good job for your annual checks and cares about your eye health and your vision, This is the place!!!

(This experience is from 2025. For some reason I was unable to post it at all by the…read moresystem/company, until now) I was searching for a new eye doctor in January (2025), and so I saw that this place was near my house and had strong reviews. My appointment in January was generally fine. Dr. Patel is considerably more personable, professional, and kind than the staff working in the front. I liked Dr. Patel, she gave me a new prescription, explained that now I need transition lenses and gave me options for getting contact lenses for distance vision and using readers for up close, which is what I opted for. The ladies at the desks upfront are clearly there to insist that customers purchase contacts and glasses through Eye Wellness. I learned a couple years ago- GET YOUR CONTACTS ONLINE!!! They are literally 50% cheaper or more. Same was true for this most recent prescription. They quoted me $250+ for a 6 month supply of monthly lenses. I got them online for $130. And opted to purchase my glasses thru Zeelool, and both of the ladies tried hard to discourage me from doing that. I declined. Fast forward to April, I'm getting migraines. I haven't gotten migraines in quite a while and began the process of elimination to try and figure out what was causing them. When I eliminated my contacts and went back to my old prescription glasses, no more migraines. As I was experimenting I also went back to Eye Wellness to request a follow up for Dr. Patel to double check my prescription because it just didn't feel quite right. My near and distant vision was never as sharp as it should be (as it has been) and this inability to see close unless I have on readers seems strange to me because without any contacts or glasses I see just fine up close. So one of the ladies took the glasses I had with the new prescription, verified the lens was my new prescription (despite them saying Zeelool may mess up my prescription) and proceeded to tell me it takes a couple of weeks to adjust to the new prescription from the "Alice in wonderland" effect. I replied yes but it's been months, and I'm getting migraines. I also explained I do not use my glasses much, I really wear my contacts everyday and use readers. So she made the next available appt which was a week away. I confirmed I wouldn't be charged for this follow up appointment and was given no other instruction. I showed up for my appointment expecting that I would be receiving another eye exam to verify that my original prescription was correct. That was not the case. I was informed by one of the front desk ladies who also does some of the diagnostic tests, that Dr. Patel will need to see me with my glasses to evaluate whether there's an issue with the glasses. I explained (again) that I don't typically wear glasses, I prefer wearing contacts, which are the prescription they wrote for me, so I assumed they were going to reevaluate my eyes and ensure the prescription was correct and that no one told me I needed to bring in my new contact prescription AND my new prescription glasses (that I don't wear). I live literally a 5 minute drive from the place and Dr. Patel was in with another patient so I said I can run and go get both and come back, and she said no we'll have to schedule you on another day, I asked why I couldn't be examined at least then since I waited a week to come in, and haven't been wearing my new prescription to avoid getting migraines, and no one told me I needed to bring them with me to be evaluated. So she went to consult Dr Patel and then said "yea you need to have your glasses with you so she can check the prescription on you". Again completely not getting the fact that I said numerous times I wear contacts normally. I don't even know whether she accurately explained the situation to Dr. Patel, so I can't even fault her in this situation because it was her staff that is responsible for the poor communication and inflexibility that occurred related to this follow up exam. So this front desk woman said the next available appointment is next Wednesday and that's when she could schedule me to come back. I won't be returning to this place as a result of the abrasive attitudes of all of the front of the house ladies working there. I hate to leave a review like this because I really liked Dr Patel, and I do not enjoy giving negative reviews to any women owned business. However, when the attitudes are not welcoming, and there is clearly an effort to suck customers dry by upselling glasses and contacts and discouraging tactics that actually save us money in the current economic conditions, I have to say it.
