Good service and very great staff. Not a big place but just right. Everything went smooth and the glasses were ready in a week.

We found this optical shop through Yelp and are so glad we did! We stopped by to ask if they could adjust a pair of glasses, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They adjusted the glasses for us at no charge and provided excellent customer service. A wonderful experience and a well-deserved 5-star review. Thank you! read more

I had a small frame repair job. I was waited on quickly by a friendly clerk. He did the repair in no time and sent me on my way. Service like that needs to be celebrated. Please do use this shop!! read more

Stopped in to get an adjustment after my son jumped on me and messed up my glasses. no more slipping, great professional service, and I can't wait to come back and buy a pair of super cool glasses from them! read more

Free glasses tightening and adjustment from Neelo! Super kind and generous of him. I'll be back for the next purchase I have to make.

I rarely leave negative reviews for a place and I don't want to make this entirely negative, either. Everyone was friendly here and I never got the impression that the doctor was anything other than professional and knowledgeable. However, it turns out that my pupillary distance was measured incorrectly, so when I ordered my glasses, the prescription was way off. So this is just to say - check your pupillary distance against previous prescriptions and make sure it's right! read more

Super friendly staff! I had a pair of zenni glasses that needed a nose pad adjustment, and they kindly helped me out free of charge. I was able to walk in and have it taken care of in a few minutes. Glad I know where to go next time I need any help with my glasses! read more

I have eyeglasses, not from this business. But, I recently sat on my glasses, and a lense popped out. I finally figured out how the lense could be put back into the rim of eyeglasses, but not by me. My vision is not good enough to unscrew that tiny temple hinge. Went to Big City Optical in Evanston. The man working there cheerfully and generously screwed out the hinge, inserted my lense, and even adjusted both temples (which were out of whack because... I sat on them) . I asked what I what I owed them, but was told this repair just something they can do. Really, I have to say, they won my business the next time I need to change my prescription. read more

Disgustingly incompetent workers broke my frame within 5 seconds. Not remotely apologetic. Told me they broke it like how I asked them to.

staff was so helpful and friendly. they patiently got me into new frames and a comfortable with a new look. I am looking forward to the new me! read more

My family of four has gone here for a few years. Unfortunately, this year the service has taken a steep downward decline. Customer service is the differentiator and with so many other options, their lack of professionalism and follow-up means we're taking our business elsewhere. From getting our names wrong, to not following up with their commitment to order sample contacts for me to try on (a rip off since they CHARGE for fitting)...highly recommend you try another location or chain all together. read more

This place is so fabulous. I truly can't say enough about Barbara, Cole and Chuck. They are smart, collaborative, have a collective great aesthetic sense and are just very helpful. I'm switching to THIS location because of the excellence I've experienced here today. These people have a terrific work ethic--and what your grandfather would've called "Can Do" sensibility. You go for the service. Everybody knows eyeglasses are going to be expensive. This company knows what they are doing. Clearly, I am knocked out by them. read more

Great service and incredible doctor Larisa . Special thanks to Nathan for his help fixing my husband old pair of glasses. Definitely 5+ for this place. read more

Front desk staff were extremely helpful, friendly & professional. Sadly can't say the same about the doctor. She took minimal time with me, wasn't a full exam, gave no summary of her findings, my eye health, or a treatment plan. It was in an out, no bedside manner not informative, and no aftercare direction. Would love to make this my eye place but due to the experience w the dr, will go elsewhere. read more

Christina was very helpful serving another customer and also making sure I had what I needed to take care of my glasses. Great customer service! read more

I haven't wanted to schedule an eye doctor appointment since the start of the pandemic, but it was really time for a new prescription. Thankfully, Big City Optical was not only amazing on the customer service front, but also their cleanliness during Covid times. Chuck and company were a joy to work with to get check ups and glasses for myself and my family. They had a really stylish selection of frames, everything was explained to me easily on the pricing front, and I felt taken care of. Hands down the best experience I've had in my 20+ years of wearing glasses. Can't wait to pick up my pairs! read more

Nathan at Big City Optical was a life saver today. He repaired my glasses that had lost a speciality screw by pulling one from a display pair. Talk about going above and beyond to solve the problem! read more

The best customer service experience I've ever had. Christina was a life saver and repaired my glasses that were completely bent. She went above and beyond to help me. Can't recommend Big City Optical enough! read more

Hmm, maybe I am used to going to my own optometrist or opthamologist, but I found this sort of like going to a Verizon store. After my full exam in the back, I was sent to the front to someone who was going to help me with frames. All he wanted to do was sell me the latest, greates, how much do I want to spend, etc. and I sincerely doubt he had any clue how to fit a frame to a face, etc. As if that's not all, I requested a copy of my records the following day and the record states that my purpose for coming in was due to blurry vision (not true) and that it was blurry without my glasses (gee, I have been wearing glasses since I was 7 - ya think??) I told them I came in just to get my eyes tested and perhaps a current prescription for lenses, since it had been a few years. Did not seem very professional to me. Even the optometrist not very experienced. read more

Excellent excellent customer service from Nelson. He helped me get a replacement pair of glasses and got me a great deal after my insurance changed. Nelson also arranged for shipping to my home and made the whole process so easy for me. Although this location is further from my home, will be going here from now on, so long as Nelson is there. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand, they are unfailingly professional, competent, and convenient. Very easy to schedule an appointment and get other things done. On the other hand, they're hideously expensive. I was charged over $350 for a pair of lenses that I found out later could be purchased for less than $100 on Zenni. And that was AFTER insurance, and not including the frame. Go here for your exam and eyecare, but get your glasses and contacts somewhere else. read more

I love Chuck and everyone at Evanston Big City Optical. The very best service and attention to detail. They have an excellent, well-curated selection of new frames...and, most importantly for me, the ability to resurrect vintage frames that I brought in to them for use as my daily glasses. (Pictured below: mid '50s American Optical frames...I love them!!) Highly recommended!! read more

The staff here really know their stuff. I came in not knowing anything about my insurance and wasn't even sure I was going to get anything covered - left with minimal co-pays (insane savings) and an awesome pair of glasses at a big discount from the regular price. I usually buy with Zenni/Warby Parker but wanted to make a switch for designer frames - highly recommend Big City Optical if you're like me and looking into making a long-term glasses purchase. read more

This is the second time in a year that I have bought glasses from Big City and this place has incredible customer service and selection. They are trained professionals that care about the customer and know their products. This time I lost my glasses and I needed a new pair as soon as possible. Nate put a rush on it and I got a great pair of glasses and got them much sooner then expected. They eye doctor was incredible too. I am two for two with Big City Optical in downtown Evanston. read more

I have usually gone to LensCrafters because it was easy. This time I looked at my benefits page and came up with Big City, great choice. Chuck, Barbara and the Doc were great. Perfect COVID procedures. I would like a bigger selection of frames but that is my problem. Chuck pulled one from the drawer that he thought I would like and they were perfect. Great experience, highly recommended. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Barbara and the team at Big City Optical. They went above and beyond fixing my sunglasses for a business trip without batting an eye. Their eyeglass selection is also very high-end AND reasonably priced. My husband and I plan on going back for our yearly check-up and to get new glasses. With that white glove service, how could we not! Thank you, Big City Optical. We'll be seeing you soon! read more

Amazing selection and Nathan, Mary, and Dr. Larisa were incredible! Definitely recommend

I had an OUTSTANDING experience at Big City Optical. To be honest, I assumed I probably wouldn't get the 'best' treatment as I was bringing in my own frames that just needed lenses, and I didn't want to spend a fortune. However, Chuck was so warm and friendly and gave me quite literally one of the best experiences I've ever had at an opticians establishment! Not only did he measure my eyes quickly and proficiently, he also called my insurance for me and ensured that I would be getting the best price for what I wanted. Once they were done, he outfitted me with a new case, cleaning spray, and took great care in doing a complimentary adjustment on a pair of sunglasses that I didn't even buy there! Seriously, this place is the best. Go there for all your eyecare needs...you won't be sorry!!!! read more

The front staff seemed welcoming and patient. The doctor seemed personable, friendly, honest. He seemed thorough with eye tests. The front staff helped pick glasses and didn't mind I tried on many eventhough they disinfect them because of covid. They offered coffee while I waited on zelle money to come in. read more

I came in yesterday with an old pair of glasses that needed an adjustment. Chuck Stephenson adjusted them for free. I offered to pay but he didn't want any compensation. He also told me that if I wanted new glasses but didn't want to get an eye exam, I could transfer my prescription from my other optometrist to their office. I used to go to My Eye Doctor on Central Street in Evanston, but they have bad customer service. read more

I was in Evanston today when I had an eyeglasses emergency. One of the lenses popped out of my frames so I called Big City Optical. They said to come on over and they would help me. I LOVE Big City Optical! My last two pairs of glasses have come from them and I am always thrilled with their selection. I had the BEST experience at the Evanston store! The service was phenomenal from beginning to end. Dr. Tamulavichus was very thorough, informative, and made me feel very comfortable during my exam. Chuck and Lana made picking out the perfect pair of glasses so much fun! Lana chose frames for me to try that fit my face shape and style. They definitely know what they're doing, and I'm so glad they're in my neighborhood! read more

OK...guess I have to chalk this up to a series of miscommunications and a new web site. After my initial review, they reached out to me within 15 minutes. I received a phone call from a very nice sales manager, who clarified that they had the frames I was looking for and they would be transfer to Evanston. She also included a couple other options based on the frame I liked. Today I went and looked at frames...the one I had my eye on (no pun intended) was perfect! I liked the other options as well, but those frames really clicked. The staff was great, paying close attention to the measurements and really walking me through the fitting. Now for the important part how much? I was totally blown away...a designer frame (retailed for almost 3X my current 2 yr old Ray-Ban) top of the line transition lenses and the cost came out to less than what I paid for my current pair. Wha???...well they are a premium provider for VSP insurance and damn that made a difference! The My Eye DR. store that I'd been going to for many years has been fleecing me and screwing up my glasses order! Never again! The staff here showed me the exact breakdown of cost and what was covered and I have to tell you the overall experience "Made my Day!" I got the glasses I wanted at a great price...I could not be "HAPPIER!" I don't plan on going to any other store for my optical needs...wow factor 11...can't wait to pick up my new glasses...which are a new look for me, but it is a new year! 10 Stars********** read more
