I have United Health Care advantage plan. An annual eye exam is included. I called and got an appointment. Got there on time and I filled out some paper work and they saw me right on time. They asked if I wanted a glaucoma and retina exam for $39. I said sure. I'm old so wanted to see if I had cataracts and Glaucoma. The exam was quick and luckily I don't so it was worth peace of mind. Then I got my prescription updated and the Optometrist was friendly and efficient. I'll definitely return. I didn't get glasses on this trip but I might return because they seemed to have a decent selection and the people are super nice. read more

Eye exam was easy but thorough, getting the prescription turned into an order for glasses was easy, and what pushed them above merely what I needed was that the pricing and explanations were clear and honest. WARNING: Visit may waste time! I must start by saying the three stars awarded are SOLEY for the optometrist, Dr. Kamran Hussain, who, if not for For Eyes itself, would've gotten five stars (sorry, doc). To For Eye's credit, they are diligent about protecting against COVID-19. A representative must let you inside upon arrival, and temperature readings and hand sanitizing is required before entry. The doctor was ready right away. He was attentive and patient, which are rare qualities nowadays. He took his time explaining all of his recommendations and armed me with the knowledge to make the best decision for my circumstances. This is where things go awry. The For Eyes staff tasked with finishing up the visit were clearly not interested in providing the same quality of customer service that Dr. Hussain did. They threw a bunch of information out, without even taking the time to understand my personalized needs. They didn't even address the insurance options until I brought it up. And things got even worse. That's when I learned that I had an insurer that they do not accept for the purchase of frames and lenses-- yes, the contracted practitioner accepts the insurance, but the establishment itself does not. Something the establishment could've forewarned about as they KNEW my insurance beforehand. This is beyond my level of rational. As if the shock and confusion over the insurance miscommunication wasn't bad enough, the moment the sales rep realized my insurance, she completely checked out. Ready to dismiss me and move on to the next, certain that I didn't have the necessary funds to cover the financial responsibility myself, which is presumptuous and ignorant. Oversight on insurance is one thing, but utter discrimination is indefensible. Corporate needs to train on these matter, because this notion is clearly lost on their workers. Beware of For Eyes, The 100% guarantee is only if you pay for it. I purchased glasses from For Eyes in Sept of 2022 Since that time I've had lenses pop out numerous times. The last time, it was unrecoverable. I went to For Eyes and was told it would over $130 to fix. The lenes have popped out on Feb. 2nd, Jan.1st , 21st, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th. That was this year only with more last year. For this to have happened so often, there had to be some sort of defect in the frame or lenes. No way should I have to pay anything for this repair. This store has really changed. I bought glasses here in the past as well as had an eye exam. All was wonderful. This time, the doctor exam was ok but the hour wait (with appointment) was ridiculous. Looking at eye frames was a solo job. None of the employees was busy yet no one offered any help. I picked out my frames on my own. When I had questions, I had to go to the desk to ask them. They did not offer to come to me. After the eye exam, I had to wait again in order to find out how much everything would cost. One employee was doing nothing but apparently only the other employee could tell me the magical number of the cost of my glasses. Another wait for that. After the person I was waiting for finished with a customer, she made me wait longer while she shuffled papers. By that point, I had been there three and a half hours. I finally got the ridiculous formula for their "Buy one get one free" sale. What they were really promoting was a 70% off sale. I have a very mild prescription, yet the doctor recommended that I pay for nearly the highest package for lenses. I knew none of this until the very end. The previous posts about customer service were right on. This place has changed. Terrible service. If it were not for the price, I would have left in the first 15 minutes. All the other eye glass places I visited helped me pick out frames, gave me a straight-up price, and had me in and out in a jiffy. Most were much more expensive than this place. Dr. Hussian gave me an eye exam and altered my prescription. When I picked up my new glasses, I had a difficult time seeing with the new prescription. I complained and was told that I'd get used to the new glasses. My left eye was mostly affected - my vision was blurry. Eventually I began to wear an older pair of glasses and my vision improved. I do not recommend Dr. Hussian. I do not trust his method of eye exams. read more

I got a good deal on 2 pairs of glasses I got from For Eyes in Chicago - they threw in some discounts that I did not realize I would qualify for and that's why I went with them. The first pair (with polycarbonate lenses, which are supposed to be scratch resistant) got so badly damaged by what should have been a minor scratch that I had to replace them after only a couple of months. The second, also polycarbonate, within 6 months got destroyed by something I still don't understand - several optometrists examined them and called it "crazing" of the lenses - extensive spider web-like cracking. It can happen if you, e.g., leave them in a hot car for a long time (something I never did; they never left my face). For Eyes said I was out of luck since they were outside the 30 day warranty. I'm done with For Eyes. Currently I am using readers from Amazon (2 for less than $20), which so far are fantastic. read more

Love this place. Travel almost an hour to get here and I've been coming for almost as long as they've been open. What For Eyes is about is designer frames that you can't get anywhere else. They are often / always ahead of trend: meaning that I buy frames and start getting massive compliments six months later. I go to a different eye doctor, so can't speak to that aspect (which seems to where the negative reviews concentrate) but I love the staff always, find them very knowledgeable and on point with recommendations. I thought at first this was a great place to go, because it was convenient and they seem to do a good job examining the health of the eye. But my vision test was way off! As soon as I was out of the store, I tried to read a sign with my new distance glasses. It was blurrier than with the old pair. When I got home, I tried out my new computer glasses, but could not see the screen as well as with the old pair. Yet the optometrist said I really needed the new ones, that I would see better. I said I would be returning the glasses. I no longer had the credit card I used to purchase them, so they said they'd send a check. It's been a month and no check. I've called twice and got the run-around both times. I should have listened to a friend who said they messed up her prescription! I thought it was just a fluke. While she was in the store, she overheard another customer whose prescription was wrong. They won't stay in business with results like these. If I don't get a check soon, I'll change this review to one star. read more

This was the most unprofessional doctor experience I've had. The front desk assistant was not only rude but began the visit by giving me someone else's HIPPA form that was filled out. She then told me that their fax machine was down so they had none of my records which I had sent over. She asked how I got their fax number and why I would send the documents over if the machine was down yet when I scheduled the appointment, the woman on the phone was who gave me the number and assured me that sending over my records was fine. When I arrived on the day of my appointment, the WiFi was also down so they couldn't receive emails or charge copays electronically. They failed to make anyone aware of this prior to the visit to remind them to bring cash. The front desk worker then did my eye exam while she was on her cell phone with another worker--never apologizing for being distracted. She was rude and careless before finally directing me in to the room with the doctor where he then asked where my records were. I then detailed again that I had tried to send them to no avail. When I went to order contacts, the gentleman was anything but nice and let me know he couldn't place my order that day because their WiFi was down. I asked if he could call me to place the order when it was back up and he assured me he could. I never received a call so I'll be eager to take my business elsewhere and never recommend this doctor's office or store. read more

One lens popped out of my frames for the second time in a couple weeks. Because the contour of the lens is different from that of the frame, it doesn't seem to hold tightly in its setting. The first time, Janny reset the lens as best she could, but it happened again. This time, she offered to send my glasses back to their lab in Florida, but with Thanksgiving approaching I didn't want to give them up for a couple weeks. She then did something both creative and unexpected. She disappeared into her workroom and soon came back with an amazing solution - cleverly re-contouring the frame to match the lens! - and now the lens is secured properly in its frame. Janny did all this with a calm, professional, and friendly attitude - and at no charge. The epitome of exquisite customer service! read more

I've been coming here since I got glasses in 3rd grade (they were red plastic and alittle too big for my face). That would be 1991. I've never gotten my exam, glasses or lenses anywhere else, actually. Good promotions. Good selection. (designer and cheap brands) Great salespeople. The adjacent optician's office is convenient. I CAN'T SEE!! No, seriously, I cant. I'm farsighted in my right eye ... nearsighted in my left. My left eye also has a slight astigmatism. I've been using For Eyes since my days in DC -- in fact - THEY are the ones who discovered my astigmatism!! prior to that, there was always problems with my prescriptions! Somehow, my last trip, I got a bad frame for my readers ... the screws kept backing out - just cleaning them, they'd pop right out. Taking them to a store to adjust them didn't work for long. For the first time in my life I bought a eyeglass kit for "just in case" Today, the worst thing happened. I LOST the right lens. *silent scream - projectile tears* The right eye compensated for the left, with out that lens, I was effectively in blurville without an escort! I called in a panic, in tears. I didn't realize just how much I depended on my glasses! DESPITE my hysterical dialogue, Maryanne was a gem! I went to the store, and gave her the defective frames - with the left lens still intact, but it fell out as she inspected the frames. I picked up a pair of cheap readers in the mean time -- I'll be eating Advil for the headaches I'll be getting -- until the new ones come in, but at least I know it's a short term solution! My replacement glasses are on their way, I am very happy with the customer service here. read more

My husband has been coming here for years and likes it quite a bit, but I have never stepped in the place with my superhuman 20-10 vision! But, the inevitable letter came home from school that my daughter flunked the school eye exam and needed a check-up, so off we went to For Eyes. Exam: The waiting area is just adjacent to the actual For Eyes store (points for convenience) and was immaculately kept... even in the midst of a blizzard. The receptionist was kind and professional and even double checked to see if our insurance would give us a discount on the exam, even though we do not have vision coverage. We saw Dr. Karina Nikogosian, who could not have been nicer or more professional. She calmly explained each procedure and what it was for to my nervous pre-teen. She was thorough and patient and spent a significant amount of time determining the exact nature of my daughter's vision issues. The total bill = $44.00! I had been quoted 4x that at another - dare I say 'more chic' - eye shop nearby. Store: Huge selection! We worked with Madeline, who directed us to the glasses that would fit my daughter and what the price points were. She explained the best deals, letting us make the decision if we wanted to spend more. I mentioned that my daughter is a pre-teen, so we were in the store for over an hour, trying on glasses and texting photos of them to family fashionistas. Ultimately, my daughter selected two pairs of very cool glasses and we will have them in hand in one week. Madeline was awesome and treated my daughter like a client, not a kid. This place has fantastic optometrists (my husband is a big fan of Dr. Haskins), great customer service, a terrific selection and great prices. Have used this location for years but had not been here in about three years. The clerk and manager were extremely rude and poor communicators. When I arrived for my appointment the door was being held open by a clerk. I stopped just outside, was wearing a mask, and did not try to come in. The clerk raised her voice and demanded I step back. I did, wondering what was going on. She asked if I had an appointment. Yes, I did. She ran through a litany of CDC guidelines, which I listened to. She told me to hold out my hands. I did. As she pumped the Purell into my hands she asked if I minded her doing so. I said it was a little late now. She immediately ran through the CDC litany again and I rubbed my hands together and held them up to show her it was no problem. Her manager appeared and rushed to the door asking, "Is there a problem?" The clerk said I was refusing the Purell. I started to say I was not, but the manager interrupted me, saying she "did not feel comfortable" with me coming in. She repeated the CDC guidelines. By now I'd had enough and held up my hands again and said I didn't need this, that I would happily go elsewhere. The manager said some derogatory remark as I was leaving that convinced me they do not know what they are doing and definitely don't know how to treat customers, or truly care for people during a pandemic. I had my glasses broken this Sunday morning. I googled and yelped for an optometrician's office which is open on Sunday and found this in my neiborhood. The lady who repaired mine did a very nice job and didn't charge me a penny. While she was working on it, I looked around and found they also have a great selections at affordable prices compared with Grinman's office having selections only outrageously expensive but not worth the money. Unfortunately, For Eyes Optical is out of my vision plan's network and so they may not be my primary optometrician but I will visit them for my next sunglasses frame. read more

I didn't get my eyes examined here, but I did buy two pairs of glasses. Very decent selection of frames for a place that advertises itself as being cheap (but spends tons on expensive television advertising), and the people working there are helpful, pleasant and happy to help you find the best choice for the best price. They have coupons on their website, but they pretty much offer you the same deal walking in. I have a moderately strong prescription. I was getting a pair of sunglasses, and the sales person suggested I try the (less expensive) plastic lenses first, and if I thought they were too thick in the frame, I could switch up to higher-index lenses. The plastic ones are fine. Lots of eye shops would have pushed the more expensive choice. If you're shopping purely on price, the internet places are cheaper, but if you want frames you can try on first to make sure you look ok, not to mention a modicum of service, For Eyes might do it for you. read more

I needed minor repairs (tightening of the arms and a screw placement) to both pair of glasses (prescription sun and regular), and since I live very close to this shop and do other business in the mall 2-3 times a week, I stopped in. The service person, a young lady, was unable to place a screw in the frame of my regular pair and told me that my sunglasses were not polarized (which I knew them to be polarized), as she tightened the arm. I wasn't quite in the market yet for 2 new pair of glasses, so I left out and went to Grinman Opticians on Davis St in Evanston. Dr. Grinman's technician fixed my screw with a smile and refused to charge me. Needless to say, a few months later I returned and bought both pair of glasses from Dr. Grinman. Thank heavens for competing markets in my small town! This was the 2nd time in my lifetime that For Eyes has disappointed me, the first time being some 15 years earlier (not this particular shop), when they gave me a hard time about returning a new frame that they had damaged themselves. I've been to the frame/lens shop (after an exam with Dr. Haskins next door) three times now and have had good experiences. The staff is very friendly and eager to help. They also had no problem with tightening my current frames, purchased at another store, free of charge! Why don't I buy my frames here? The selection. I would love it if they widened their frames selection. (I wear both contacts and glasses, but usually only end up filling my contacts needs here. I'm picky about frames.) The only thing keeping this location from being a 5-star shop, in my opinion, is that there's often a lot of confusion, and it takes a lot of time for staff to figure out (and confirm, even if you already know), vision insurance coverage. read more

I used to like this place a lot. My eye doctor was great, the lady at the front knew what she was doing. But now not so much. My eye doctor left, the staff turned over. I came for my yearly exam and they were clearly running way behind. I was not called into my appointment until nearly 40 minutes after my scheduled time. The eye doctor made it seem like this never happens, her boss made her go to some meeting instead of taking scheduled appointments and it just wasn't her fault. Well, I already had scheduled an appointment for my daughter so I figured I would just keep it even though I was mad. Sure enough they did not call her back until 30 minutes after her scheduled appointment. I also don't really like the selection of frames they have. They are all pretty boring and I always go elsewhere to get some more interesting frames. read more

I've been myopic for 35 years. I have a little experience with spec hawkers. These folks are good. I've seen three of the docs to get glasses and be fitted for mono vision contacts. They have helped me out. I'm still figuring out what works, but no pressure and simple explanations. Daryl the optician selling glasses is a good salesman, but honest. He saw the glasses I had on when I came in - I paid over $400 for them 2 years ago and was asked to shop while my eyes were dilated in a "cool alternative friendly" shop on Clark street in Andersonville" - and told me they didn't fit later the docs told me the prescription was off. Go figure I've hated the things - liked the style, but function sucked - since I've had them. Visionary Eye Care - my blurry eyes!!! The specs I got at For Eyes were cheaper, fit better and work great. Once I get these mono lens figured out with their help, I'll be cooking with gas. read more

I went to Four Eyes to see if they could help me swap the temples on a new pair of Ray Bans I purchased. I showed up without an appointment but they were very gracious and invited me inside and asked me to have a seat. An associate came over a few minutes later and I explained I was unable to do this task at home with my crude tools. It should be noted I did not even purchase these sunglasses at this store and they didn't even ask me about that. I was flabergasted when he swapped out the temples in under 2 minutes and I thanked him profusely and asked: "Where do I pay?" He said: "No worries, no charge." This is the kind of goodwill that gets customers coming back and recommending them. I'm sure I will. read more

Just horrible and a ripoff with incompetent office staff. Went there for routine eye exam and contact lens prescription. I should have left when the receptionist did the usual glaucoma and other computer aided tests. I've NEVER had anyone but a licensed doctor/optometrist do those in over 40 years, The doctor was fine. Then they overcharged me at checkout, sent me to the desk next door, tried to overcharge me again for same co-pay, refused to give me my full insurance benefit and refused to give me my prescription to take my biz elsewhere, I had to call my insurance agent to follow up on this scam biz. I do think it's complete incompetence instead of active scamming as LITERALLY FIVE PEOPLE IN AN ONE DOCTOR OFFICE were all involved in clicking through and "working" on this. This is for a visit/experience I had several years ago in 2006-07. The staff there were very rude towards me and I had to back and forth several times regarding issues I had with my glasses. I also paid an arm and leg for my glasses too. I have warned people ever since to avoid this place if possible.
