Polina and Roman are an eyecare 1-2 punch! Don't know the breakdown, but it seems like Polina handles the Evanton shop. Roman spearheads the downtown store. Great little shop with good selection of frames, etc. Contemporary, as well as current "retro" styles. I needed to replace a pair of beloved Silhouette frames. They are the only place I could find them in Chicagoland. Later, I later needed an adjustment on the Silhouettes after I accidentally smashed a temple arm. Roman did an excellent job. Been a reluctant client here ever since Dr. Fostiak left due to the pandemic. I only wanted a refill on a contacts prescription, but they forced me to come in for an eye exam I didn't need. They then made me wait 45 minutes past my appointment time without even offering a quick 15 second apology for overbooking and wasting mine and other peoples' time. Nice selection of designer glasses. I was able to get lenses replaced in a pair of glasses and sunglasses, as well as pick out a new pair of glasses for reading. The prices are reasonable and I received all my eyewear quickly. Everyone I worked with here was helpful. The woman who helped me today when I took the frames home was also incredibly fast at adjusting all the glasses perfectly, and I was in and out of the store in minutes. I love this place. I had gone to a different eyecare place in the area a couple of times before coming here and I felt like I hadn't gotten the proper prescription. The doctor here gave me a perfect prescription. I used to get headaches and slight nausea from my last pair, the transition in to these was painless and not a bother. Great service is very hard to find. But when you find it, there was no question that it is there. It is exactly when I experienced at Evanston Eye Care with Roman. I came there due to a Groupon offer but the service I got was 5 star. Roman helped my father not just to find the glasses that he needed, but the doctor who can help with a cataracts. I would not recommend this place. After reading the reviews, I am convinced that those must have all been written by friends or people who work for this company because this was not a good experience. 1. This place is SOOO expensive. And totally not worth the price. Almost all frames were more than 300 dollars. Which brings me to point #2 2. They have low quality frames. I picked up at least 3 pairs from the wall, and they were bent, lopsided, or the arms of the frames were actually broken! Unacceptable! 3. The people who work there are unprofessional and not very nice. They were on their phones, and when I asked to just get my prescription, she would not give it to me. 4. They do not get your glasses to you until over a week later. Fitting lenses into frames should not take that long. 5. They room where the eye exam takes place looks incredibly unprofessional and SKETCHY! 6. You will regret spending over 300 dollars at their store (because no matter what, they will make sure you spend at least that much). Overall, this was an awful experience and I felt like I was not allowed to leave without spending 300 dollars on mediocre frames. I can't say enough good things about these folks. I went there because my long time optometrist, Dr. Fostiak is working there. She gave me a new prescription and I went to Warby Parker because there was a set of frames there that I really loved (and that of course were inexpensive). In two tries, Warby Parker couldn't get the prescription right. I took the the frames to Evanston Eyecare and they had lens is made for them. They were terrific! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Long story...but Roman sent my FSA the max amount ($620) for glasses that I never approved. He was too busy and said it wasn't his job to wait on hold for my vision benefits so instead he attempted to charge my FSA (my own money mind you) the most he could without going through my insurance. This is FRAUD. When I called him he said exactly what is stated above. Don't go here. Customer service was awful. Glasses overpriced. Double booked all the appointments, with one person available to help....that's why he didn't "have time". I love to support local businesses but definitely skip this one. read more

I found this place via Groupon. The doctor was very thorough and informative. The process was easy and took about an hour. The office staff was great and helped me pick out frames. The owner has worked in the eye are business for over 25 years. They accept lots of vision plans and their prices are outstanding. I wouldn't trust my eyes or my eyewear to anyone else. read more

Contacting this office is difficult at best. Follow through is nonexistent, information is withheld, and they do not work wot clear your benefits prior to your appointment. I had to stand outside on the phone with VSP myself when they said I wasn't covered (VSP reported no one had inquired and of course I was covered). I agree with Ellen L. - the other reviewers must be friends! I went in yesterday for a routine eye exam, just because I haven't had one in years. I love my glasses and am happy with my contacts, but my RX expired and I figured I'd go in for a check-up. I just moved to Evanston, and needed something local. First, the front room with frames is also the waiting area AND the area where a young gal was trying contacts for the first time. The receptionist was helping her do that, and was processing my paperwork. It was actually kind of awkward - trying contacts for the first time is hard! Then, I was taken back to a very sketchy back room, where the doctor (except no lab coat, no credentials on the wall...) introduced herself twice (clearly a very practiced client interaction with no real enthusiasm or authenticity), and then I proceeded to sit in the eye exam chair. There are basically no lights in the exam room, and the walls are paper thin - I could hear everything that was going on in the lobby. The projector for the eye exam is right where the doctor sits, so every time she asked me to do something, I had to ask her to move. She never washed her hands in my presence, and I just felt weird about the whole thing. Then, she tested my prescription and proceeded to tell me that my RX had changed significantly and she found an astigmatism in my right eye - how odd, since my glasses and contacts are fine. So she tried to show me what my current vs. "new" RX looked like... and the "new" one she had just discovered was completely wrong! It was so blurry, while my current one was perfectly fine. Her only response was "that's so interesting". ?! And then she asked me why I was even there in the first place if I didn't want my prescription tested... I tried to tell her that I was just being proactive and getting everything checked out. That seemed odd to her. Needless to say, before we got to a point for her to dilate my eyes, I asked to leave. Once I exited, I still had to pay the full amount for the exam, even though she only did half of it, and even though I have one free eye exam a year, she made me pay it and "I could submit to my insurance company myself". I left really frustrated and definitely not taken care of. I will NOT be going back - it was unprofessional and honestly, a little strange. read more

My girlfriend bought glasses from them few years ago. About a month ago she got a new prescription from her doctor and wanted to replace her lenses. I was also looking for a pair of sunglasses. We stopped at the store few times during the day, but the store was closed. They don't have hours posted, so I called to ask what their hours are. The girl on the phone sounded very agitated. I could tell that my questions were annoying her. I think that whoever works there just comes and goes as she pleases. I would definitely recommend going somewhere else. There is plenty of other optical shops in the area, where they have convenient business hours and are customer oriented. We went to a different place and were very happy with the service. read more

I walked into this place to get a new pair of glasses Saturday morning. There were no customers and the place was quiet. However, I was treated very coldly by the sales person who has a very heavy East European accent. He was obviously very not interested in my business. He just coldly asked me to come back next Wednesday when the eye doctor will be here. I was so ready to spend $600 on my new pair of glasses but I certainly will not do business with this place. I will not suggest anyone to go to this place unless you want to be treated rudely. Without a doubt this place will go out of business very soon and they have themselves to blame. read more

I would not recommend. This seems to be a family owned operation with little concern for customer convenience. When my boyfriend ordered contact lenses here, he was first told he could come around noon only to find out that they were gone by 1:30 (even though the posted hours are 10 AM - 5 PM). When he tried to reschedule a time to pick-up before leaving for a trip, he was told he could only come between 10 AM and Noon. This is an unreasonable request and caused him to have to rush to the eye care location, skipping work and wasting money on an uber, to ensure he had lenses for the next week. read more

I visited Evanston Eyecare today for the first time. (I lost my prescription reading glasses a couple weeks ago so I was motivated to get them replaced.) Although I've lived in Evanston several years, I hadn't yet found a provider that I trusted/ liked. After researching Yelp reviews, I chose Dr. Fostiak. She sees patients at Evanston Eyecare on Mondays. Her Yelp reviews were stellar and after today's visit, I know made the right choice for me. She is professional, gentle, efficient, explains what she's doing and I immediately felt very comfortable and knew I was getting expert care! The office is attractive and conveniently located. My new glasses will be ready soon AND they are able to re-use a pair of my favorite frames that I had kept from a few years ago. So, the total cost for the exam and the lenses was reasonable. More importantly, I have confidence that Dr. Fostiak has given me a thorough exam and thus my healthy vision is maintained. read more
