What was once a distinctive, high-end optical experience now felt more like walking into a generic one-hour optical shop. The personalized service, attention to detail, and sense that you were shopping somewhere special seem to have disappeared. It's sad to see such a fine Cherry Creek location become so commoditized and run-of-the-mill. My husband and I are big fans of Oakley, mainly for their glasses/ sunglasses. One thing that really sets Oakley apart from other eye wear brands is their acknowledgement of Asians lack of nose bridge. Most Asians do not have a nose bridge and so whenever they were glasses or sunglasses, they have to constantly readjust their glasses when it slides off their nose. I am one of those people. Oakley created an "Asian Fit" line that provides gripped nose pads on the glasses so that they rest comfortable on the nose and prevents slipping. Some of their frames in this line also provide longer nose pieces (with the grip material) as well to prevent sliding. Anyways, now that you know this information, my husband and I wanted to just check out what items they had in the store this afternoon. Upon entering the store, we were immediately greeted by a female sales associate. She asked us if we knew about their current sales promotion (there are signs posted everywhere, so it is hard not to notice it, but she was just making sure we were well aware of it) and if we had any questions. I had asked her if they currently sell the arms of the crosslink glasses because my husband's have broken off and is in need of a replacement. She said that they don't have any, even though the corporate office had told them they would get them (but there was no definite deadline as to when that would happen). This particular Oakley location is quite unique in that they have an optometry in store. They provide a 25% discount on prescription eye wear purchases if you show proof that you have any type of vision insurance. But aside from this store not carrying these particular items, our overall shopping experience was a pleasant one.

I came to the store to replace a regular pair of glasses. The fellow was quite nice in showing me…read moreframes and discussing options. Note, like many my insurance covers most of the cost of frames and lenses. I have two pairs of Oakley sunglasses, so I liked the brand and approach. After brief review, I decided on a frame and lenses options. I asked for a price quote as I know my insurance has co-pays. He noted the cost would be somewhere around $90, which made it competitive with options like Warby. A day later, I get a call with with a message the cost will be three times that much, or $270!!!! I call and asked for clarification, and am told insurance only covers the frame, not lenses. First, that feels like a bait and upsell. Oakley frames are nice, but not that nice. And we are not talking about hubble telescope lenses, these are basic single vision lenses. Warby and similar have almost identical frames. And, I will spend only $25 with insurance. That is a huge diff from $270, and considerably less than the $90 quoted. I will not bother with future glasses in any form from Oakley. Fascinating as Luxotica owns the brand and the insurance company. Sounds like a FTC competition investigation which needs to occur in January.

Always check your receipts! When I went in to pick up my new glasses (second visit), they removed the warranty fee. Thankfully! Within 6 mos., the coating was ruined on my glasses. They said the coating was defective. Now I had to be without my glasses for yet another week (third visit). I finally got them back. Thankfully there was no charge to fix this defect. About a month after the coating issue, the temple broke off right in my hand. I couldn't believe it. To fix this, I'd have to pay full price for a new frame. Not happening! This would've been my fourth visit. Mind you, the glasses were only 7 mos. old. These were the worse glasses I've ever bought. Buyer beware! Too many weeks without being able to see, wasted my time & gas. So frustrating! The glasses were Via Milano E211 Eyeglasses Frame Women's Bronze Half Rim Rectangular. Don't buy them!
