Checking them out was a lesson in patience. We arrived while another group was getting set up to go snorkeling- and that was a decent wait. The group ahead was very thoroughly trained in their gear down to "here's how you apply sunscreen".....Staff are VERY thorough and the computer system was VERY slow. So don't come in a rush brah. Returning was much quicker and easy peasy.

We did it!!! Waterfall rappelling is checked off our adventure bucket list! This was such a truly…read moreunique, exhilarating Aloha experience and more fun than we expected. Naan & Shiz were the best. We felt safe and comfortable throughout the tour. First, was a practice run on dry land. Next, we hiked down to the 30 foot waterfall in 2 separate groups of 4. Last, we hiked through a muddy trail and crossed a stream to the 60 foot waterfall!!! This is a once in a lifetime experience and a must try. We plan to make this a regular activity when in Kauai when we can do it with our eyes closed (just kidding about "eyes closed").

Katie and Matt were phenomenal guides and really created a safe space in what can be deemed as being scary to many. They furthermore create opportunities to bond and celebrate each other through the process of repelling and learning to repel, while knowing their audience and really bringing the perfect hospitality feel. This was well worth the money and the time that they give you out there - they also provide equipment and gear for you at no added cost, which has not been the case at many of the other things that we have done. They also will provide you with choices of how or where you can propel within your comfort and based on skills and teach you how to dry repel prior to actually doing it which really helps with boosting confidence - I was very fortunate and comfortable with being vulnerable and ventured through the waterfall! Cannot guarantee this to anyone, yet it made my experience very memorable and put me into a huge state of humility and peace. We will be back again and I hope it is sooner over later! Still it is obviously the best place to get the most for your buck. Our location has some distinct qualities that you may want to know before you go. 1) this is a local gathering place, if your expecting a Costco-RAT-Race, like the mainland, think again. People often stop to give hugs and aloha to friends they see, staying to chat in inconvenient areas to tourist (I am totally guilty of this, and I love seeing my friends, students and their families- you just got to send them your "ALOHA") This may be annoying to some people, but it is a way of life here- so just be happy to have a little slice of aloha. 2) they don't always have stock- Tuesdays are a great day to go. Lastly, 3) checking out. If you choose to self-check out... you may be confused. As it stands now, and for a really long time, there is one line to stand in for 3 lanes of check out. Is it logical: no. Does it confuse visitors and even people like me: yes. For some reason, Costco wants all self-checkout folks to stand in one line and then go calmly and orderly to whichever of the 3 checkout lane openings is free. This really confuses visitors, and sometimes even leaves them with stink eye or scoldings from the locals. After all, those who live on Kauai have been trained to the 1 line system. About 1/2 the time, there is a staff that alerts the next person to go to the available self-check out, but where they are not there, or need to assist someone with self-checkout or review and ID for alcohol: they are not there. I am really not sure why they have kept this single line system, rather than having 3 lines, but I guess there must be some reason for this. Does anyone know? 4) Please be kind to the staff, offer some aloha to them- Q, Carry and Deb are some of my favorite folks. Costco always tolerates me coming in costume as Darth Vadar and Princess Leia. This Costco is part of the aloha experience- please treat it with love. ***** If you are an executive member- this Costco is opening earlier for you! The selection here is great! It's catered to Kauai's unique clientele. They had all the good brands! Ray ban, Oakley, Maui Jim to name a few. So much selection- it took me a while to choose.
